Because it happened in other movies? :lol

Unless they make a sequel and have some guy dressed in a ridiculous rubber suit fighting crime, there is no Batman.

If there is no Batman, then there is no Joker. If there is no Batman, this is just a movie of a deranged and abused failed comedian/clown.

Movie was great, and i?m so glad they took the non superhero comicy approach.

it was a perfect origin, and i also hope there?s not a sequel. leave it alone.

For once we can use our imaginations again.

But if everything was a fantasy what movie are we left with.

No need for imagination when the Joker?s main message is so predictable and on the nose.

Other than the mystery of his birth what other sophisticated deep layer was there.

There is no Batman in this film. Joker/Arthur IS a deranged and abused failed comedian/clown.

I don't think they ever meant for there to be "no Batman" in this movie. Otherwise, why go through all the trouble of adding in the Waynes, adding in Alfred, adding in the murder of the Waynes? This movie specifically alludes to the origins of Batman and connects it to this "Joker". There is no "Batman" persona yet, I agree, but the character of Batman (Bruce) and how Batman came to be was definitely in this movie.

But then again, most of this movie is just Arthur's imagination. So there probably was no movie to begin with.

Imagining a sequel if that?s your thing or not. Doesn?t need to have a deep layer we got all they layers it?s up to us to interpret them how we wish.

It was good but I still love heath ledgers performance more he was more of the insane joker that I enjoyed, this version was more about getting revenge on the people and society that had done him wrong. It was predictable in certain areas I wanted his victims to be more random to lend to his insanity.

Thomas Wayne played a role in the story. It doesn't necessarily mean it has to lead to Batman. Arthur laughs at the end when he thinks about the death of Thomas Wayne because of the irony that TW began calling people clowns and in the end he was killed by a clown. Then there's the meta aspect of the joke for the audience which is the fact that Batman was accidently created by Joker the very night he was born. However, that's just a wink at the audience since in the story, Joker can't possibly know Bruce Wayne will become a vigilante named Batman.

Yeah I don’t get why this movie is being worshipped as a masterpiece.

Yes JP acting will win him an oscar deservedly so i’ll admit that.

But the same people worshipping this movie are calling for no sequel and no Batman.

Ok fine end this movie here and we got ourselves a Joker locked up at the end and that happened WITHOUT Batman in his life some mastermind lol

He may have escaped at the end. Hopefully, we'll never know.

Most people don't want a Batman or a sequel because this film's setting is way to realistic for a guy dressed like a Bat. It's going to look as ridiculous as Watchmen.

My wife and I saw this last night, and while JP is deserving of an oscar for this, we did find this too realistic for a DC movie. Mental health issues are real, and the way this Joker is depicted is like nothing else we've ever seen in any DC or Marvel universe. I'm not sure what direction DC is going in and why?
Put it this way, after watching a movie, we always decide, "is it a keeper" in other words do we buy this for repeat viewing. And we both said "no". We have no desire to see it again, and I don't have any need for any Hot Toys variant (if any get made at all)
And this I believe is DC's problem.
For a DC/Marvel movie, this is as real as it gets. For me, I go to the movies to escape, and while Jokers environment is pure fantasy, his personal battle with demons is very disturbing.
Overall 7/10 for me, I've seen it, kept me enthralled, but not usually my type of movie.

So is the A Joker... or The Joker...?

I see him as a kind of Pre-Joker.

After all, another Joker -- Jack Napier -- is the clown who actually killed the Waynes... so Arthur is a proto-Joker. Like the Proto-Alien. The Joker before "The Joker"...

They literally show the birth of Batman. Lol what u don?t like Batman or something. This is his world and his villain

In the words of the Clown Prince of Crime.... "You complete me!" A movie about the Joker without Batman is incomplete. :rotfl

Did u expect the movie to be light hearted or something?

No, I knew it was going to be heavy, and was interested in how they were going to portray Joker. I won't say too much more as its just come out so don't want to risk any spoilers.
To give you some perspective, I love the John Wick trilogy, Deadpool etc, don't mind the violence in those types of movies, for me thats fantasy. The violence in this was realistic, not what you expect for DC/Marvel.

Yes was thinking the same.

How would you rank your Jokers?

I respect that. It was way more bold than I really thought they would ever go. It kinda got me like I used to try to feel with really bleak horror or foreign movies when I was a teenager.

The closest a mainstream American comic book movie has come is maybe watchmen in terms of bleak.

But I am so into it ive watched that scene where he is on murray just to get that feeling again.

Infinity war is my favorite marvel movie cause that ending got me in the same sorta way albeit a way less violent version.

Anyways...
To play the ranking game is very hard w/ joker since he is so many things and all of those things can be charismatic and intriguing.

Nicholson is the showman
Ledger is the mastermind
Phoenix is the madman

And the lesser, in my mind, but still very relevant traits:

Leto the narcissist
Romero the jester

I love them all really.

Haven?t seen gotham yet But i was an extra in the pilot episode!

Not necessarily. It's an else world story. Nothing about this Joker's origin is canon, so to expect this version of Bruce Wayne to put on a rubber suit and fight crime is at this point fan fiction. He may or may not grow up to be Batman, but until it happens, he's just another victim.
