What? His post or the "looks like any $40 generic army figure at TRU" comment? :dunno
yes.
Yo prefused, For jey who dont get it, i was being sarcastic. boy!!!
yeah, i'm always being sarcastic when i say stupid ____ too. it's very convenient. high five!
I am perpetually selling and buying things. But then, the novelty for these toys tends to wear off pretty fast for me, so that's just the best process for my situation. I know there are guys like Maulfan who apparently spend large amounts of time and energy pondering if they will want to buy and keep something for the rest of their lives before making a decision. But I am not that way.

I also have very little to no interest in being a completest of anything.

Not that this has even the most remote significance to Chigger's post :lol
i'm the EXACT same way. i'm glad i grew out of being a completeist. it took all the joy out of collecting.

Although these figures are now a few years old. I would bet they are still the set to own . Give these another few years and I won't be surprised if a 'Les Hicks and a Les Apone" is worth a few $$$$

I bought the whole set a few years ago off the BAY and although they were not chep, I never regret 1 day of owning them.

i got drake and apone when they first came out, and regretted paying retail price for them pretty soon after.

i'm getting the impression that collectors/completeists who paid $400+ for those things probably do regret it, but hide it behind justifications like "oh, i'm gonna sell these one day and retire" or "i have the whole set now and you don't so i win" etc.
then again, i think ht marines look like bootleg toys. so, maybe i'm missing something other people see in them.

You sure do pal, you sure do.
You dont need 2 pay 400 = for those marines, thats a little over the top.
And If you dont do anything about the whole look, then i understand that it will look crappy to you.
But, with some arm sleeves here, a nice sculpt there.
Someone who makes your shoulder-lamps realy work, a motion tracker that blinks.
Yeah you can make a pretty cool figure that will maybe top the new HT figures that come out in these days.:naughty

I'd be interested to see the ratio here. I'd bet that those who don't have them want to see them redone and most of those who do, don't. :lol

I think that's spot on personally.

If I pull the trigger on a Hicks....the LAST figure I want to see Hot Toys make moving forward would be a Hicks. So I can see that if you own them you wouldn't want them redone, especially if you paid what some people have mentioned.

Having owned them in the past, I feel the same way. Even after selling off all my Alien(s) collectibles, I'd still hate to see HT remake them. Seems to me like it's mainly those who don't have them that are wanting them without having to pay the secondary market value. Honestly, beit $400-$800 they should have to.

Sure, those who don't have them will want them re-done to a greater extent than those who don't (because more of them will be satisfied with their something over the nothing that others have, and as Chigger says, many will be pissed at having invested money in something destined to decrease in price), but that doesn't mean that these are top notch figures that aren't in need of updates.

Sure, the accessories on those figures are very nice, but damn. The sculpts and paint apps on those heads? :monkey4

If folks were so happy with them, then why are the Hicks custom heads so popular?

--edit: I actually think that Drake head is pretty nice, but the paint job is sucktacular compared to current standards--

Uh.... because the Hicks custom head has Beihn's likeness where HT wasn't allowed to use it. You keep conveniently ignoring that little tidbit.

No, I understand that (though the attempt at Hudson is far worse that that of Hicks). Any updates would need corresponding likeness rights to be worthwhile. The originals are still woefully out of date in that regard, and worthy of an update, IMO. Just like the Police Assault T-800 from T-1 needs updating, pretty much just for the head sculpt (thought I'm sure some would prefer to have the automatic rifle as well).

That would be a waste of resources and upset waaaaaaaaaay too many fans. They'd do better just to acquire the likeness rights and release head packs.

I would have no problem with that. But I'm not sure how much HT cares about upsetting fans if a few bucks can be made. See DX Joker.

This is true, but on the other hand, there is demand for the Marines as evidenced by eBay prices. The previous figures came out years ago before many of us were collecting these things, and now Hot Toys has a much larger customer base to cater to. I don't know if it would be worth their financial while to re-release these figures or not, but it might be (Predator, Aliens, and Terminator figures seem to make up a huge chunk of HT's revenue stream).

Whether or not these figures warrant a re-release due to demand is a different question of whether they warrant a re-release due to the quality of the previous releases, of course, but I think they need better heads, and I also think that collectors would definitely buy make it worth HT's while to pursue re-releasing some of the Marines. . .just maybe not Drake :D Seriously, who cares about Drake in the film?

I've sorta moved past caring about those missing marines Hicks, Apone and Vasquez....or maybe thats just because I'm not in an Aliens mood right now. However, yeah, since I don't have them I wouldn't mind if HT announced they were going to take another crack at them. They won't though...and at most it'd be Hicks.

Well, for what it's worth, I'd be seriously surprised if Hot Toys ever remade any figure from a line they've already put behind them, especially one as old as Aliens. I don't doubt they'd make a much improved figure now, but I don't believe it will ever happen. Those licenses don't last forever, and Hot Toys is probably too busy acquiring new licenses and expanding their current lines anyway.

Even if they were to remake Hicks, or any of the Marines they've already done, I'd only expect to find the quality improved to their current standards. All wishful thinking aside, I would not expect to see new Marines with a dead on Michael Biehn or Bill Paxton likeness. But it doesn't have to end there. There are some good alternatives, as other people have already mentioned. If somebody really wants a screen accurate Hicks or a Hudson, there are ways to make that happen.

But they aren't "cheap" which I suspect is the root of this whole thread. Baby birds don't want to pay the prices the Marines are demanding now, while having to foot the bill of a custom head to boot... even though that's pretty much what most of us did. :huh
