Bethesda Announces New Fallout 3 DLC
Written Tuesday, May 19, 2009 by Dan Webb

Bethesda today announced two new pieces of downloadable content for Fallout 3, coming this coming June and July for Xbox 360 and PC; one of which you might even recognise from the one rumoured last month.

The first of two newly announced episodes, Point Lookout throws players into a massive swampland area promising new quests and content to tide you over. Point Lookout will cost the usual 800 Microsoft Points and be available in late June.

The second of the new episodes, set for late July for 800 points also, is the extra terrestrially named, Mothership Zeta, where you'll encounter a race of supremely pissed off aliens and experience an alien abduction first hand.

In addition, PS3 owners out there who own this title will be glad to see all previous downloadable content making its way to the PSN starting this coming June with Operation Anchorage, followed by the release of The Pitt and Broken Steel 4-6 weeks apart. Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta are all slated for a PS3 launch after all the other three packs have been released.

Bethesda also sent word that they are planing to release their content on disc with their Add-on Pack #1 (Anchorage and The Pitt) hitting stores across Europe from June 12th. Add-on Pack #2 will drop in August and contain Broken Steel and Point Lookout. No price has yet been finalised, but these packs are stated as Xbox 360 and PC only.

Last but not least, Bethesda will be releasing a Game of the Year edition of Fallout 3 this coming October that will feature the original game and all five add-ons for a mere £39.99/€59.99 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. A PC version will be available and it will be slightly cheaper at £29.99/€59.99.

So then ... new Fallout 3 DLC ... excited much?

Keep them coming guys I love it.:D

This new DLC Broken Steel, is actually, pretty good. I am having a great time playing Fallout 3...with XP!..:banana

The only negative is that completing all the quests and sidequests in Broken Steel will only bring you to level 26 or so, leaving you to get those last four levels via combat experience exclusively. That being said, I'm having a blast thinning out the Super Mutant population. :gun

Cool, great to see....I think that as long as the DLC keps on bringing Beth (and Microsoft...) big bucks, then they'll keep doing them. I think it could be the way to go for all big release games, a great way to get extra game play, if you want it..

Confirmation that the GOTY edition will be out in October, with ALL 5 expansions for $60. With each expansion being $9.99, that's $50 just for expansions. You've gotta be stupid not to trade in your copy now, and save some money later this year. Also, funny considering that you could probably buy a used copy by December and have it be cheaper than buying each expansion individually.

This exchange is kinda funny as well

IGN: Why is it that the first three pieces of DLC are finally hitting the PS3? Was it a timed exclusivity deal, or was something else worked out?

Todd Howard: It's mostly the workload on us. Based on our Oblivion experience, it was clear that Xbox users were much more comfortable buying content, by a wide margin. It's a lot of work to get them ready for a particular platform and now that they've been so popular, we want to get them on the PS3. And there's obviously been a lot of frustration on the part of PS3 owners, who don't feel they are getting the total Fallout 3 experience, and we don't want that to happen. We want everyone to have everything, but we still need to set priorities so we can use our development time wisely.

IGN: Was the eventual PlayStation 3 release for the existing DLC always in the works, or was it something that came up after the fact?

Todd Howard: We always wanted to do it, but until it actually looks like it will happen, we don't want to make promises. We've been working on it and they aren't done yet so it's going to take time for each DLC to be moved over to the PS3 and work well. As a result there will still be a month or so gap between each one once they start hitting on the PS3.

I'm pretty sure Bethesda has been saying "The DLC is exclusive to 360 and PC" and "There are no plans to bring DLC to PS3 in the near future" for the past year. :lol

Yeah, hopefully this makes people realise, that for a multi-format/platform game.....there is NOTHING that will be exclusive.

Except for the houses and cars that the developers buy from doing them...:monkey3

June 2, 2009 - Alaska. Pittsburgh. Adams Air Force Base. Through the three expansion packs released for Bethesda's award winning Fallout 3, players have explored vastly different experiences of the nuclear wastelands for the ex-Vault 101 dweller. But the adventure through the irradiated lands hasn't ended yet, particularly with the recent announcement of two new expansion packs that will be coming later this year. The first of these will be Point Lookout, an expansion that will house a ton of secrets for players to uncover. At E3, I managed to get some hands-on time with one mission to face off against new enemies and acquire new powerful equipment, as well as new perks and achievements.

Point Lookout takes you to an as yet unexplored area of Maryland that didn't suffer the same kind of devastation that DC went through when the bombs fell. In fact, it appears to be a rather quaint beachfront community that has fallen into disrepair. Like the previous expansion packs, you wind up discovering access to Point Lookout after receiving a radio transmission. Once you travel to the source of the transmission, you are introduced to Tobar the Ferryman. He pilots the Duchess Gambit, a boat that takes you away from the wasteland to the area of Point Lookout. While you won't be able to take any followers along with you, Point Lookout will have the distinction of allowing you to come and go as you please instead of locking you into that location for the duration of the expansion pack. Mysteriously, a new fruit is found on the Lookout, which somehow lowers the Rads that you take much better than Rad-X and Radaway. However, as you approach the splintered timbers of the dock, the derelict Ferris wheel and the looming spire of the lighthouse, you can't help but get a sense that something is radically wrong here.

In fact, that's something that Bethesda is specifically going for, attempting to create an H.P. Lovecraft vibe with the entire pack. Point Lookout is stepped in thick fog, with a number of new effects for the environment, including new water, sky and tree textures to make Point Lookout look a bit more off kilter. Even stranger, however, are the "monsters" that you'll face. The newest ones are the Hillfolk, mutated people that seem completely ripped from "The Hills Have Eyes." There were a number of these creatures that silently attacked us with different implements, such as shovels, axes and even double barreled shotguns. As rustic and simplistic as these weapons might seem, you shouldn't discount them on looks alone. These items are extremely powerful, particularly if you repair these items into better condition.

After battling through these creatures, I made my way towards a place on the hill known as the Old Calvert Mansion, which Tobar stated had some great treasure inside of it. However, as I opened the door, I noticed a ghoul named Desmond being attacked by large groups of people known as Tribals. In fact, what I discovered is that these people were in a cult, and were constantly assaulting Desmond in an attempt to gain some secret that he held within the crumbling walls of this mansion. These assaults were relentless, and groups of Tribals would break down walls, shoot through doors and constantly fling themselves at him. Fortunately, Desmond had a number of defenses, like turrets and barricades, and was systematically repelling these enemies. Choosing to help Desmond, I found myself battling through these waves, but also found myself falling through demolished floorboards and getting trapped in the bowels of the mansion.

It was rather evident, thanks to the large numbers of waves that I was constantly facing, that Point Lookout would not be an area that weaker characters will want to take on. In fact, Bethesda believes that this would be an expansion for higher level characters, and while they wouldn't tell me about all of the secrets or monsters, the large numbers of Tribals in the area, along with their swarming nature, made it seem as though they would easily overwhelm characters without a significant amount of armor and ammunition. Point Lookout will be released later this year.

Fallout 3's Point Lookout Now Available
Written Tuesday, June 23, 2009 by Dan Webb

Fallout 3's fourth piece of downloadable content, Point Lookout, is now available for download for 800 Microsoft Points.

The game may not be showing in the "New Arrivals" section just yet, so head to "All Game Add-Ons," then "F," and then "Fallout 3" and you should see it there.

Want to know what Point Lookout is all about? Check out our preview from E3 this year. Check back at the weekend for our review.

Initial reviews are pretty favorable with many saying its the best and biggest DLC yet for Fallout. Not too many bugs reported.

I downloaded this last night but haven't gotten to the new section yet, had to finish some other stuff up. I have not even touched the 3rd DLC nor really gotten ANYWHERE in the main story and I have about 40 hours logged to my game so far. I love it! I wasn't aware they were doing a 4th expansion but I cannot wait to get there.
