I always loved GB2, I'm not sure it really warranted all of the hate it received... I imagine some of that will go away after this one.

I remember going to a birthday party the summer GB2 came out and I was shocked that my friends were all hating on it. I still love it.

GB2 has some moments. Personally I never hated it. I have seen it much less then the first so it's always kind of fun to watch because I don't know it like the back of my hand like the first film. I never liked the ending with all the Happy New Yorkers singing and the statue of Liberty walking around.

I love the court house scene with Rick Moranis acting as their Lawyer... that scene is as good as any in either film.

I always feel alone in thinking GB2 is great, glad to see others like it. Just wait until the reboot is out and people start liking GB2. I could never think of Ghostbusters without also thinking of GB2.

While I agree with the major complaints that GB2 is, plot wise, a carbon copy of GB1 and that it was softened for kids (so was TMNT2, and I still like that as well) I think that it has more than enough new and interesting stuff to outweigh the negatives. Funny how even though it was made more kid-friendly it still had the same PG rating as the first, still can be enjoyed on an adult level, has way more creepy feeling undertones and scenes (bloody heads on pikes) and still has some of the adult humor. e.g. Egon: I'd like to run some gynecological tests on the mother. Peter: Who wouldn't?

And with the addition of the video game plot giving relevance to elements of GB2 to the overall Ivo Shandor story it just cements GB2 even more as a solid entry in the trilogy for me.

GB2 never felt more kid-friendly to me and I'd argue in some ways it's darker and creepier. The heads on the stakes, the slime oozing in the bathtub, Ghost Janosz, etc. all freaky stuff when you're a kid. And it still has quite a bit of adult humor throughout, especially in regards to the mood slime which itself has a weirdly sexual aspect to it if you think about it. Something about the overall tone just feels more sinister to me, maybe it's because a baby was the target this time that gave it a bit of an edge and more of a sense of urgency.

The only issues I ever had with GB2 were the underwhelming climax and I wish the charcoal uniforms had been kept.

Yeah. They have openly admitted to making changes to appease the kids brought in by the Real Ghostbusters though. Like Slimer as a sort of "good guy mascot" ghost, Janine suddenly looking like animated Janine, more slime because kids loved slime, the ghosts (Scoleri's in particular) were more cartoonishly animated, Nintendo controller to control Liberty etc.

I wholeheartedly agree that that stuff is negligible though, which is why the whole idea of it being made "kid-friendly" was never a big deal to me. It's not like it was done to such a degree to eliminate the enjoyment of adult audiences. The things you listed always gave me a creepy feeling, and I'd add the ghosts disembarking the Titanic is a bit unnerving as well.

I always thought the ghosts in the second being a bit more reality-based gave it an edge as well like Vigo being a genocidal tyrant and the Scoleri Brothers being killers. The ghosts in the first were more like typical monsters so the sequel's ghosts being a bit more realistic gave it a slight edge. The Titanic scene was definitely more than a little freaky even with Cheech Marin's hilarious bit at the end :rotfl

Vigo was definitely a big-time childhood boogeyman. And reading up on the life the actor who played him had prior to becoming an actor... let's just say it makes Vigo seem even more evil knowing the kind of guy the actor really was like.

This movie is gonna bomb big time...and whats with those cheap looking scooby doo sfx.

Loved this game. It was the best we could hope for a third film. It was a good move making the player a nameless recruit and you get to see the four of them with different eyes.

Agreed. I love the nameless rookie idea since it leaves the banter between the team uninterrupted. I really hope they give second life to this game via a remaster, it deserves to be played by every Ghostbusters fan.
