Because you have bottom of the barrel CG artists behind it. CG has gotten better than JP one days, but you don't have that level of talent doing it.

Not to mention practical effects are next to dead, since CG is cheaper and studios want to be able to change them if they want.

You nailed it. Watching it fail is all the entertainment I will get from this movie.

I make a motion to lift the ban on "popcorn gifs" for the week this movie is out.

That Stay Puft isn't supposed to be real, it's not bad CG. It's supposed to be an actual balloon in the street parade, just shown out of context.

And they used a load of practical effects in this. Real people dressed as ghosts, animatronics etc.
Hate all you want on the movie and the ladies involved, that's completely subjective, but the VFX are not substandard from what we have seen so far. The super colorful look is actually pretty cool.
