Well first of all, I didn't make any analogy :p

DX Jack Sparrow, just announced in April, costs $240 but includes half a damn ship and has a significantly more complex costume than Batman; based on him, Batman should clearly be a $200 figure - not a $240 figure.

The DX Indiana Jones also includes a helluva lot more than Joker, who should also be a $200 figure (based on included accessories). Instead, Joker came out as their (by far) most expensive figure short of the understandably expensive 18" Jake Sully. So why the hell wouldn't people have sticker shock?

All of those other figures have some justification for their prices being higher than any figure than came before them. These figures most certainly do not. For their prices, and using the last two (not even released yet) DX as a base for expectations, you'd think Joker would include a chunk of his float and Batman a chunk of the Batcave for where their prices fall.

We all see the picture of everything that's included before we hear the price, and obviously the all-inclusive pictures did not say $240 and $265 to people. And again, this is comparing strictly to figures announced this year, so the "labor and oil prices are up from last year" excuse is so bogus.

Because every single one of the ones you mentioned have actors with higher profiles than Jack Nicholson. :lecture:lecture:lecture

I think the additional cost is due to likeness rights. These two particular actors haven't licensed their likenesses for many years. Aren't these the first official figures to be released for this movie since the initial merchandising? The limited nature of their permission to use their likeness could have driven up the price alone.

I know Mattel has been looking at this license too and so far they haven't been able to pull the trigger perhaps for cost, timing or getting the likeness rights.

Of course, all speculation and we are likely to never hear an explanation from HTs.

you are the biggest HT nut hugger on this forum, captain hot toy

Interesting. He has been accused numerous times of being anti HT and a SSC nut hugger. Or you just have no logical argument to counter what he is saying and so are resorting to name calling. :D

Nam is so easy to blame for so many people in this place. He's always reason everything is wrong with everything. I don't agree with everything his says, but more often than not it's along the right track enough for a relatively intelligent person to at least give him the courtesy to ponder the thought.

If you want to hold a debate use facts & logic rather than pulling crap outtchur ass.

......or just call him names. That's always entertaining.

I was super pumped for Joker, but the more I look at Batman he's beginning to turn into the more anticipated figure for me. Those preview pics look damn real.

ah the good old internet grammar comeback, keep up the good work, by the way, do you work at HT? how do you know for sure it is because of the nicholson rights that the figure costs this much?

So I take it you haven't even seen my posts in the DX02 & DX05 threads, have you? Usually, when I call someone a fanboy of a specific company, or a polesquatter, it's because they've never posted a single derogatory remark about the company and praise even the troublesome releases like their issues are "not nearly as widespread as everyone makes them out to be." Here, it just seems like you don't know my post history and don't have any foundation for your argument so you resort to the troll-like fallback of namecalling.

My whole argument consists of the fact that with the prices of other DX figures rising, this shouldn't have been this "big surprise" everybody's making the pricing out to be and we all knew HT paid a pretty penny for Nicholson's likeness since they announced it with the '89 license. Short of a hollow plastic idol pedestal, Joker doesn't come with anything less than Indy and he's $250 as well.

Yep. Unless Joker and Batman 89 were especially expensive to produce because of some kind of extra specialized materials/production process, the only thing that can explain that huge price jump from those other figures are if Keaton and Nicholson have likeness rights that are significantly higher cost.

It's common knowledge that Nicholson inked a sweet licensing deal in his contract to do Batman 1989. The rumour was it was so good for him in fact that WB had to rewrite their rules so no actor could cut himself such a ridiculously nice slice of the pie again.

Really? Wow, Jack got so spoiled in that movie I guess. :lol

This will be my pose, Very reminiscent of the Horizon model pose. I'll also try the one where he's kicking his feet in the air, though I would have to construct a special stand to do that.
I don't mind that smile. It's a sinister smile and it's not like Nicholson was able to do any more expressions without having a garish smile with that prosthetic restraint on his face.

What has come out, Batman & non Batman, that officially had an accurate Nicholson approved likeness? I honestly can't think of anything. I know the blister cards for the old Batman figs had them; but did the figure resemble him?

There was a Kenner figure I believe that had his likeness. But the ToyBiz stuff didn't. They had a comic-looking head.

One of the few greatest actors that ever lived. :lecture

:lecture The man's a legend.

On another note, I just got an email that Sideshow charged the non-refundable-deposit. The figure is still seven months away from shipping, but I've never, ever, been as excited for any 1/6 collectible as I am for this one. This will be the centerpiece of my collection for sure.
