Pics like this make me unsure wether or not to order it. I love how it looks here, but am afraid a better one will come out. And the pants really are not baggy enough, I didn't know the pic posted before was shopped.. <_<

looks fantastic there, at first glance i thought that was a screen shot.

Cant wait to get this, probably my favourite villian of the trilogy.

...once you find out that Bane wasn't the child in the pit that escaped and he starts to cry....

what a great film moment ~ nolan's best reversal to date, i think. not the "reveal" that it's talia who's behind it all, but the pure humanness of the plot; it's not some big abstract political ideological thing, it's way more relate-able and personal for everybody.

loved it loved it loved it. especially the tears. who would have expected it and now, rather than put down some evil villain like a mad dog, he's a person you can almost sympathize with.

this is powerful storytelling.

Does the sculpt have a squished nose effect when you see it in person?

yes, but only from a certain side angle. Some of the shots in the movie looked almost similar, it's not an issue IMO.

The Joker took an intimate pleasure in killing people; he said as much ("Do wanna know why I use a knife?"). He enjoyed the process and loved to not only kill slowly and prolong people's agony, but to make games out of it ("Try-outs"). Killing was more than a tool for the Joker, it was an enjoyable activity ("I like this job, I LIKE it!").

Bane's different. Bane doesn't enjoy the process; he's indifferent about it. It's merely a tool for him to achieve his ultimate goal. He quite literally does not care whether someone lives or dies (aside from those he loves), which is why he doesn't make killing a process like the Joker does. He kills quickly and effectively and then moves on. And he was killed quickly and effectively and the story moved on. It's perfectly ironic, although untraditional.

Calling his character "One of the worst characters in the film" seriously makes me consider what you define as a "good" character. Bane was original, yet very conventional villain type material. He was the right change of pace from the joker and he's honestly one of my favorite villains in a film I've seen in a long time. All his lines were brilliant and his character design was spot on. The worst character in the film was Foley imo.

Bane just arrived. He looks a lot better inhand than I expected. The head is very good, as is the tailoring. Just needs to be seriously weathered and ****ed up.
:)

How the **** do you get them so early? I was the first one to hit the buy button on Timcent's listing and mine hasn't even left HK yet :gah:

Totally agree! And there is a nice (sometimes going to far) article by european philosopher Slavoj Žižek, and he makes an interesting analysis of Bane.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

I love when Bane talks about how Bruce betrayed the LOS and then Batman says how Bane was ex-communicated by a gang of psychopaths. Bane, holding Batman by the neck, pauses for a moment and then unleashes two furious punches to his back or ribs. I think that reveals where his hatred of Bruce comes from. When he sees that Bruce took the opportunity of being in the LOS and threw it back in their faces it angers him deeply because it's something that he wanted in the worst way, but had it taken away from him. So I think knowing Bruce took something he always wanted and rejected it and practically destroyed it in the process is where his hatred comes from.

Imagine being in love with the prom queen and the prom king cheating on her and treating her like dirt... insignificant, tossed away carelessly.

Thats how Bane views Bruce's treatment of the League of Shadows. Bruce had everything Bane wanted... he was Ra's "greatest student" and was to be by Ducard's side to change the world... not Bane. Bane wanted approval, acceptance and he cannot achieve that due to the death of Ducard in Batman Begins so instead he does the next best thing... fulfilling the destiny.

Great posts guys. :clap

Yea, I'm certaily not 100% sure if it's meant to be her or not. It just felt like the woman walking by was meant to be a person of interest and not just a random person walking by. Certainly could be wrong, though.

Seen it 4 times and I don't even know what woman you're referring to.

The entire debate over which is more of a villain for Batman of Bane versus the Joker is irrational. They're different threats.

Joker is an agent of chaos. No real rhyme or reason "I just do...things..."

Bane is completely the opposite. He is a tactician, every move is carefully calculated with redundancies for his redundancy. He has the exact training that Batman does and therefore can think like he does "Theatricality and deception are powerful agents to the uninitiated... but we are initiated, aren't we Bruce? Member of the League of Shadows."

They're opposite and pose different threats. For those saying "pssh, Bane... whatever." Well consider this... he accomplished what Joker never did.

Another excellent post.

I agree that Nolan was thinking of something other than Batman vs Bane when he wrote the story. I want to say he got "sidetracked" but I know this is not true. He definitely made the movie he wanted to make, but I just look at Bane's character and I feel like he was wasted.

As an amateur mma champion, I can tell you that someone who doesn't feel pain would be a nightmare opponent. What if he didn't feel fatigue either? A large part of beating someone is changing their mind about whether they can win. Fatigue and pain both do this. To show that effect would have been really something. Instead, it just showed Bane letting Batman punch him...did anyone really think that was cool? I might be wrong but that's a really cliche thing for the tough guy right?

The other thing is the strength issue. As a wrestling coach, I've witnessed retard strength. The kids just don't let go. That makes them freakishly strong. So if Bane didn't feel the pain or the fatigue, he's a monster. So Batman has to compensate for that. He has to adjust to the level of strength he's dealing with and that's a steep learning curve. They sort of touched on it with that line "Victory has defeated you." And it's good that Batman lost, because he should have. The first fight isn't bad, even though the catwalk part is soooo fake, but I wish more of this stuff was evident in the fighting.

But the second fight just suuuuuuucked. Batman should have had to find creative ways to cut the pipe. Basically they did their sloppy boxing and grunting and then batman hit the pipe. Then Bane should have felt the pain, which would have paralyzed him if he wasn't used to it. And even if he was, he should slow down, which they made him do. But where was the fear?? If someone winds up a punch and breaks your nose, the next time he winds up you get scared. Where was Bane's fear? And then think of how menacing Batman could've been made to appear then. Ahh I guess it's just a missed opportunity.
:gah:

I'm mystified by this post. All the things that you wish we're in there totally are. :dunno

Regarding the last fight: Batman tried several techniques to damage the mask. Direct punches, his elbow, and finally a backhand with his gauntlet was successful. It was a percise hit with one of the blades, and he only managed to get the one hose. There is no way Batman was going to win without doing that.

And you didn't see (and hear) Bane's fear? That boggles my mind. It's extremely obvious that he is afraid. Its so obvious that many do not like Bane's character because they think it makes him look like a whimpering sissy (which I disagree with because of the points made in your post). You really didn't see the fear???

When the first tube comes off and he is struggling to get it reconnected, he is definitely fearful. His eyes read of terror and fear and confusion that this could happen to him. :goodpost:

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Bane is the true evil version of Batman. A necessary evil. Joker is just the other side of the coin (see what I did there? ;) ha!)

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

At exactly 0:50 Batman starts to get the upper hand, Bane looks sort of surprised and amused that Batman bested him and starts to fight back (albeit still at a relaxed pace, I think at this point he's still not *really* trying). Then batman strikes his mask several times to no avail until finally, at 1:01 he pops *one* tube. Bane looks completely surprised and has a "WTF DID YOU JUST DO!?" "YOU BROKE MY MASK!?" look on his face. And it's only *now* that Bane starts to actually fight back whilst trying to fix his mask, it's to late though, batman doesn't give Bane a chance to recuperate and attacks non-stop. Bane tries to take down Batman with one gut punching combo at 1:16 but it's too late. Bane is too crippled without his precious gas and get's taken down by Batman with a finishing kick through the City House doors at 1:35. The moment Bane's mask got broken he forgot his training and just started hammer punching, you hear Bane just SCREAMING his *** off in pure anger at 1:22, he's HAD IT, but as I said. Without his gas, Bane truly is hopeless. Which makes my like his character all the more.

Good analysis, guys. Love it.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Bane never experienced a tragedy that led him on a journey to the league of Shadows.

bane never had his face torn off or endured constant pain to save talia only to be rejected by the league (and her father) for having his face torn off and for enduring constant pain. no tragedy there.

Comic Bane...had a sense of honor and a great back story. You wouldn't catch him trying to blow up the city or relying on a shot gun to defeat Batman. He also had a more personal back story in prison and was a sympathetic character with his little Osito.

unlike nolan's bane who didn't do all of this for honor or love, and who is totally inhuman, unsympathetic, and hate-able because he cries when batman takes his juice away.

or something like that?
