yea who knows what lighting effects, bulbs, etc people are using for pix...

at the end of the day its what it looks like when i see it... not pix. and that's what really twists my *** about this guy... in hand he is silver, no way around it. not the dull light grey we were promised. and there is no doubt more rainbow pearl goin on in the diecast areas vs the plastic. i wanted to love this thing and the dam color is killing me! i'll survive, get over it, whatever... not gonna return it or ****** about it forever... but man was i really bummed when seeing it in hand.

i've actually wondered honestly if HT coulda used filters, bulbs, lights, whatever to achieve those promo pics... and in reality it was shiny silver all along.

I'll never trust HT promo pics ever again, I'll tell you that.

When PC said something about con lighting, I did not want to believe it. But he might be right. I know nothing about photography and lighting, but perhaps the bright lights dulled the armor and lightened the skin?

Is there anyone on the thread that did go to the SDCC’s and see the proto Robocop with their own eyes? Did it actually look like that^^^^

They definitely used a cooler white balance for the promotional pictures (the fact that the blacks and skintones also have a tint of blue to them gives that away), but that's not uncommon and I don't fault them for that; if the promotional shots didn't do their best to recreate the look of the character as seen in the film, then the photographer wouldn't be doing their job properly. Keaton Batman's photos were also shot with a blue cast to mimic the film; T2 and Classic predator were shot with an orange cast to mimic that standing-by-the-fire look.

But the figure definitely was never silver all along; from convention photos to photos of the figure in their official window display, the prototype never looked white silver like the production figure does. If the production figure was put in this same display case as the prototype is here, he'd look screaming white:

Here's a crappy low-light cellphone pic I took last night of where I've got him on the shelf, and the ******* practically glows in the damn dark.

yeah, based on that video, there is no doubt that the base color changed. it looks more gray than silver in the video and doesnt contrast so much next to ed when compared to the pic you just posted
thats my biggest disappointment, its that robo and ed look so different
ive said it before, but they nailed ed-209, no complaints from me at all with that fig(as long as my rubber stays good)

yea you are right... that thing would be blazing silver w/ the underlight going on if it wasn't painted right w/ the darker colors.... DAM shame. :gah:

funny you mention it glowing in the dark... i got up to leave for work this morning and its def low light conditions, no lights on etc, cause the old lady is lazy and won't get her azz outta bed... i figured it would be a lot different w/ low light conditions... NADA! there he was looking all shiny and just a silvery!!

I did, personal picture:

Plenty of light on SSC's booth, no need to use flash. As real as a picture gets. Taken with the latest iPhone at the time (5).

Something DEFINITELY happened at the time they actually produced these things.

Oh, **** me.

I take it all back, I'm again pissed at HT. :lol I'm guessing much of the delay had something to do with paint.

I'm using a flash with one overhead light on my pics guys. Nothing fancy :wink1:
Based on absence of shadows on the mouth in your pics, that's what I figured. Nothing wrong with it of course, but I did notice that the flash for some reason gives the figure's armor more contrast than it has in reality, basically reversing the look of the silver. Instead of bright silver with a few dark spots, with flash on you get a dark figure with a few bright spots. I can't explain why that is, but it was an observation from last night when I forgot to shut the flash off for one photo:

I think people are so annoyed at this because its a case of what could have been. The colour on the promo Robocop from the con looks just perfect. If the production version had been this colour there would be no complaints and everybody would be happy as larry but this is bait and switch at its worst. They just didn't deliver on what they promised and sold us a dud unfortunately. There's no getting over the colour being wrong because most of his body is covered in armour.

I plan on getting the battle damaged version but if the armour looks as shiny bright as the regular versions I may have to have second thoughts about picking it up. This and the ed-209 fiasco haven't done anything to restore confidence in HT's quality control.
