I'm fine with the NECA ED-209. It might not be as articulated as the Hot Toys ED (or have those lovely wire and paint details), but atleast the dome is perfect and the sound and voice effects aren't silly.

Back when this was first revealed last year, I was excited as hell. It was a no brainer. But I had to wait and see if they'd be dumb enough to still use rubber after all the complaints about the last one. Once it was confirmed a few months ago, I stayed the hell away. Hot Toys Robocop is gonna have to be solo.

For those of you who hasn't experience cracking on their ED209 dome, try spraying it with Silicone Spray.
Silicone Spray prevent rubber from cracking and also give that nice shine too.
:D

3M (brand) makes them as well as WD-40 (brand).

Really? Nothing so far on mine.
How do you get it to stay on the dome, Jed?

Yup.

All I have left on order as far as Hot Toys products is Police Shootout T-800 and Robocop (I cancelled the Batman-armory). Unless they show something that wets my appetite at SDCC (doubtful since I'm only interested in TermRoboBat), I'm done.

Basically, unless there's BD Murphy/Robo, Returns Batman, Catwoman, Penguin, 1/6 Endo or Kyle Reese this summer, it's a no go.

That's a ton of stuff.

Rubber sprays etc are only prolonging the inevitable.

The facts are: -

1) This is still the best 1/6 model of ed209 there is, or probably ever will be

2) The existing rubber dome is doomed to deteriorate over time - get over it. Metal rusts, plastic rots, people die, buildings burn....

3) Letters, petitions, rants etc are a waste of time and energy. They have our money, they are not obliged to do anything. These toys dont come with a lifetime guarantee.

4) If you can return for a refund - great. You are still going to be ed-less when all is said and done. Make your decision - do you want an ed209 or not.

What we need to do now as a collecting community is focus on making a quality replacement - hard plastic cover or frame covered in acoustic speaker mesh imho.

There is a tremendous amount of talent and energy on this forum - I am sure we will find a solution that looks good and will last a lot longer.

year: 2134.
Hot Toys proudly presents MMS6000 - ED-209 v.15.0!
the figure is made of titan, is casted directly from original studio parts, it walks, talks, shoots flies and hunts down rats.
it sells in 3 days all over the world... and in next 3 days THE DOME!!!

1. This is going to be the best ED209 model out there: https://www.chroniclecollectibles.com/legacy-series/ed-209/

2. Yes, rubber deteriorates, but this would have been easily avoided if they used plastic. Plus, its not like they had no idea, they knew of the issue with the 1st ED209. However you word it, its still poor design on Hot Toys part.

3. True, Hot Toys doesnt do ***** about anything.

4. I just returned mine. IMO, I would rather be ED-less than be out $400 with a rotten dome ED209. Yes, it can fixed by a replacement dome, but it's the idea of having to "fix" a $400 figure to make it acceptable that really bothers me.

I completely disagree. I am sorely underwhelmed by the Chronicle ED-209; if they had made an actual reproduction of the articulated animation model, it might be a different story. There are a few aspects of it that look very wrong to me, and I do not get those same twinges looking at the HT figure from any angle. Hot Toys made some errors in detail too, like the absence of the side pipes under the body; I can and will add those. While the idea of having to fix a $400 figure that easily could have and SHOULD have been done properly in the first place chaps my butt, the Chronicle model has major drawbacks to the HT version in my opinion:

1) It's made in actual size to the original animation models, about 25% smaller than HT; that means the HT 1/6th scale Robocop most of us here ordered (myself included) would be standing next to a 1/9th scale ED-209, approximately.
2) It's a static non-articulated format.
3) The pose is awkward, not dramatic, and you're stuck with it forever.
4) The feet just don't look right to me.
5) The price is $1,200.00 + $70.00 shipping!!!

There are very few figures that don't require some sort of modding out of the box to make them more accurate - DX12, MOS etc. There are always imrovements that can be made. Congrats on your refund - I'm sticking with mine and going down the home improvement route as soon as the rot sets in. Yes they could have fixed the dome prior to release, they didnt, c'est la vie. Lets work on a good fix. If it costs another $50-100 for a really good custom dome, then so be it - your still well below the Chronicles statue which is static, boring and out of scale with the rest of my collection.

Put me down for a dome aswell please, I only had mine on display for a week or two and now he is back in the box covered up due to house move. might leave him in there until I can get the custom dome...
Really pee'd off about this!!! it a joke!!!
I would also be willing to pay up front Anth to get the funding going so we can all have the Ed we should have!!!

I to hopefully will buy a custom if I can get one from Anthrapoid, though I plan to put clear varnish on mine so when it dries it will be solid and will hopefully stop the shrinkage.

Hmmm. Solvent based will probably end badly, enamel will definitely end badly, and I don't see an acrylic doing much of anything. What's needed is something to preserve the rubber, not coat it.

No way in a million years is mice going back, I had to buy from a supplier in HK as the UK release has been going a month back since April!! had Ed on pre order for 12 months over here!! its mint and I think its worth every penny and can not send it back...

SO what will your dome be like Anthrapoid? Will it look similar to the rubber one? Will it be a hard plastic or soft?
The liquid casting resin I will be using starts out clear; when I add a liquid pigment to it, (black) it becomes totally opaque. After it hardens, it's rigid like hard plastic. However, if you heat it up with a hair dryer, it gets slightly flexible; this will be a good thing, so each dome can be heated and pressed down onto the head for a perfect fit. After it cools, it's totally rigid again.
Because I will need to use a separating agent to prevent the domes from sticking to the inside of the mold, the separating spray will give the dome castings a semi-shiny surface. Let me clarify that: The shininess won't be residue of the separating spray that can be wiped off. The spray will make the inside of the mold shiny, so that is how the castings will come out. The cured resin can be painted; even though they will be black, I intend to add a very light metallic sheen to mine.
I'm sure if you had a box-fresh ED standing next to another ED that had a custom dome installed, the two would look slightly different. The surface texture detail should be very good though.

coll83 and CollectorGuy, I will consider accepting your kind offers for start-up funding, and thank you both for that.
Money has been tight lately, and I will need to order the materials online. Due to my health issues, I can only execute the planning and prep work right now, so pre-funding might not speed up the process all that much anyway. Let me think about it.

Silicone spray would probably be the best to help with the rubber(assuming its even real rubber) but its still going to break down in the long term.
Everybody who has an ED should get the domes replaced with anthropoids dome when the time comes.
