Is this guy worth it with all the dome problems?

Here's how I see Ed 209's dome. It's rubber , rubber will deroriate eventually . Why stop yourself from buying this amazing figure because something you know will happen, happens. You can find it for under $300, I've seen it for as low as $250 . In fact during Black Friday you could have got it for $200 from sideshow.
Go for it, you won't be disappointed

I think that at least the dome could be made in plastick, black plastic. I paid it 270 euros but I don't want to see rubber deterioration even if it costs 100$ or less.

I bought the v1 with a rotted dome, but i re-covered it with speaker cloth. If my v2 starts going (no signs at all), i'll do the same. It's not the end of the world. After the initial furore, much of the complaining has died down. it's possible that only the early batches were affected.

It's a huge figure with tons of articulation, battle damaged arm and sound effects, all for $300. If it wasn't for the dome, this would have been figure of the year. Definitely worth getting, especially if you find a deal.

May I ask you about the lower front part of ED? I mean the part of the "head" just below the front grill wich is different between the V1 and V2. However the V1 was correct, the V2 is completely wrong and cannot bi fixed without hard woks on it (cutting and self making parts).
Can you confirm that?

Just disassembled ED head, I'm studying a way to increase the height of it, There are some differences in the jont from the real one.

As you can see, grease and decals arrived! A lot of works for the next days!

@Davierosoft

Could you take a closer photo of the audio chip and it's wires? I wanna see where all the wires connect to. Thanks!

Black and red wire on the top goes to the speaker (the speaker is inserted just behind the front grill of the head, blue wire is the antenna, the other are + and - of the battery (plus passes thrugh the switch)

Hope it helps

I'm not a mod guy, so I'd be on the verge of a nervous breakdown if one of my figures were splayed out on a desk like that. :lol Keep up the good work and keep us posted! :duff

I have a plan (but I cannot guarantee) to replace the sound system with a benedini tbs mini sound card. This card (avaiable from Benedini Modellbauelektronik) is programmable with USB and can be used to play different sounds at the same time. I can put in it the itlaian movie sounds and if I can, I can also put the single shot sounds, the ed 209 noise made when it is turned on, and I can also add leds to the machine guns. However to do that I must also disassemble the arms, and I've not found a way.
The sound card must be commanded by an RC remote control radio, like the in dynamic cars, planes, and so on. A 2 channel is sufficient.
I can also add one or 2 model servos to move (just as an on/off) the arms a bit up or down or the head to simulate the powering up and down of ED. (just to add a movement) These are only ideas at the moment, I must check if it is possible to do easily. (The radio + benedini + programming is easy, the difficult things are the movements and the LEDs .

Yankeesfanboy, I was like you until few years, I wasn't a mod guy, however it is something funny to create something different and to say "I made it". Yes, in this case there are only few adjustments, and if I replace the board there will be something very different from the original. I started from few paint jobs, but more I see the pictures from the movie and other models and more I want to do with it ;)
I know that when I try to modify it I'm Handling an about 300$ thing that coul break in some parts that can be hardly repaired... It is a possible risk.

In the video you can see other models I have (they are not all mine, only 4) and they are all 1:6th scale. Each model is a mod of the original kit or original model. So, I have a bit of experience now. The first mod I did was on the tiger I tank, the first attempt to add details was something hard, I was unsure of what to do! But after few weeks I acquired more confidence with it. ED is a similar thing... As soon as I can I'll make a picture with ED and the tank together. "the past and the future"

Thanks for the pic Davierosoft! :hi5:

I'd give you a rep but I can't seem to find where I could do that. :)

Saw some folks were asking about this guy being able to fit in a detolf and figured I post this here as well. This is how I set mine up, legs fully extended, one arm straight up/forward and the other slanted down.

Nice display. Very inventive.

That's how I look at it. If with various protectants I get 5 or 6 years out of ED on display, I will feel very much that it was worth the purchase. None of these toys are going to last forever.

Wow, that's some nice work, all around. Really looking forward to seeing what you do w/ED.
