I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to get one of these, but I'm really interested in seeing them! Hopefully this year indeed!
It seems like HT is trying to release a lot of recently announced figs pretty soon, Thor and Jack Sparrow DX for example... I'm sure they must have plans for the 3rd and 4th quarters of this year, so maybe they're aiming for a Christmas release of these figures...

This has probably been discussed before, but I think I'd actually prefer these guys being closer to 12" than true 1/6 scale. They'd look odd towering over the rest of my HT collection and wouldn't fit in a Detolf, unless I had them sitting on chairs or something, which, after thinking about it now, would make for a fairly humorous display.

Agreed, Its pretty wierd that besides the Sideshow Netirey theres no high end collectables for the highest grossing movie of all time. I dont know if there planning somthing big for christmas or somthing but i do really want Hot toys Avatar stuff

No chair, but they can be praying on knees just like in the movie for displaying purposes to fit in a detolf.

Maybe they bailed out on it... would definitely explain the lack of an Avatar link on their homepage -- and the fact that we haven't heard anything in a year.

I was really excited to see just how they would handle such large figures with their new body styles (and complex paint apps). Maybe that's the reason why it couldn't be done. Then again, HT hasn't been known to quit on a license because they couldn't do it justice in the past (lol), so it's most likely a legal issue they ran into, and they're just not telling anyone about it.

I'm thinking that IS the reason they're not rushing into it. Because it IS like, the "best" movie of all time.

They can focus on the other things right now, because they know people will be interested in Avatar far longer than everything else?

Well SSC still thinks its going to happen, but I for one am out of it. The movie was good, but not good enough to buy figures from it 2 years later.

Movie was definitely incredible, but let's face it... compared to Alien and Predator, those creature designs just aren't on the same level. I've seen those movies hundreds of times and the imagination behind them still never fails to impress me. To me, the creative goodness of Avatar came not from the characters, but from the world itself. Unless SSC is doing any dioramas or environments, I'm not sure I'd be interested in merch from such a film.

^ Thats pretty much how I feel, and I don't think the movie was all that great either. The creatures, colors, and environments were all amazing though.
