Stencils are used for the tats on mass produced figures like Hasbro. That’s why you’ll occasionally see a overspray and the blackness is so flat or often solid as hell.
With the use of actual artists, a faint sculpt line helps to save time and keep continuity. As long as the lines aren’t too harsh, I’m down.

P.s notice the chin on the early SS Maul and you can see the spray and where the stencil was peeled up.

No, the texture isn't as pronounce, the paint more or less is same.

I actually like the production eyes better.

Kudos that HT doesn't have a seam, but in most lighting I can't see it on Sideshow, if production has sculpt marks that deep for the tats, that may show in the same kind of lighting.

Agreed with you about all those WG

I also don't like the carved tattoos since it wasn't done like that in the movie. I remember with prior Maul releases, SS said it was unachievable to do the markings without it even with their 1/2 Legendary Scale Maul. Hoping HT either makes the carvings a bit less deep like the SS Dual on Naboo version or is able to achieve it without the carvings on the end product.

Interesting they say that, if memory serves (and it probably doesnt lol), I dont think the medicom had sculpted lines did it? It sports a pretty tight paint job too. I have one at home, will have to take a look later tonight.

edit: Ah I didnt see MaulFan's post when I wrote this. Medicom must have used a stencil I suppose

lol! Not sure what ITT means, but it's more like trying to convince ourselves not to drop the extra cash on another Maul (when most of us still will in the end).

The details are obviously going to be better on the HT, no doubt. But there is merit to what Maulfan is saying about the expression. I too prefer the "silent rage" thing the SSC has going over the straight up aggressive anger thing HT's has going on. But hey, maybe HT will include both expressions across two headsculpts? I know I hope they do.

Considering it's a DX, 2 headsculpts would be awesome ! But I fear the speeder will take up a lot of the "extras".

I can admit if HT seems better in regards, all I'm saying is right now, I don't see vast difference to warrant a second figure if you already spent money on Sideshow's, and usually an HT reveal is a clear and significant upgrade, compare HT Vader's to Sideshow.

I think this may look better than the con shots are suggesting, time will tell, again, we all thought Palpatine looked like Ed Harris more than McDiarmid for a long time.

Well, as I said I’m going to buy this no matter what. For the accessories. So I’m not defending anything. I actually don’t see any significant improvement though I wish I did as it would make me feel better about buying another Maul.

The SS V2 head sculpt still has the better likeness to Ray Park so they'll need to revise and tweak this HT version.

We need to see better pics...but in that above shot there's zero likeness to the actor..

Itll depend on the price if i pick this up. I dont know about the speeder though. I dont think i would have the figure on it. The robe has got to be included. It probably just wasnt ready for the show.

Facial expression is much more convincing here. Had my doubts with preview night vids/shots. A grinning/teeth out alternate head sculpt would definitely seal the deal for me.
