Im not mad over a dolly though. Its just hilarious you're using that diatribe against the film as the justification of thinking not buying HT Maul, even though you're already extremely satisfied with SS Maul, because you used the word "superior" (1). Furthermore, your deliniation of the Maul's bike was "silly", probably stupid looking piece of plastic to your eyes also (2). The first and foremost, Solo was clearly a better film than TPM from your perspective, and it seems mechanical-legged chubby Maul would be a wiser investment than this piece of chunk (3)

(1) (2) (3) > cancel TPM Maul would be an excellent choice :woo.

Im not trying to be a jerk here seriously. Im just trying to help to facilitate the progress of making executive decision much more smoothly :).

Your fervent defence of the HT is simply blinding you to the reasons why I finally decided that I'd rather not bother with the DX17. It's not important, or really relevant, but I will elaborate for the record.

Firstly, ordering the scooter version was a silly choice because it ties the figure too much to The Phantom Menace. I like Maul's design, but I don't want a toy to specifically evoke the prequels.

I was right with my initial assessment a year ago:

I didn't initially want his disability scooter, but it looks even better in those photos.

Secondly, I didn't write that the Sideshow was 'superior'. I wrote that it was "superior looking". There's a difference. One is absolute, and the other refers only to appearance, rather than substance. A truly superior version would probably be the HT clothes and boots on the Sideshow figure.

Thirdly, rather than having more toys evoking the prequels, I'm happier to have the mechanical-legged, chubby, older Maul from the classic period as my second Maul. (As opposed to two from the PT and one from the classic).

That is all.

I have the Sideshow Maul and there is no way it is superior to the Hot Toys on any level.

Agreed. The SSC sculpt is pretty good but my opinion has always been it looks too lanky, joints too loose, proportions weird. I prefer the HT Maul from what I’ve seen. But I’ll be able to have a better informed opinion when I have the HT Maul in hand in a few hours.

Up to the individual what’s preferred I guess.

reading all the pros and cons between SSC and hot toys maul, as someone who owhns both and has had the hot toys in hand as of yesterday, I have the say the hot toys is far superior in every way, the porportions are all from photographic angels, in person the face is ever so slightly a bit thcker but looks more human and natural and makes the sidesho wone look more "toy like" it is no were near as movie accurate and once you start to pose the HT maul it really starts to drop the level of points the SSC one holds... but again to each their own but in hand it outshines on every level, I was going to keep SSC maul but have just traded him to a friend and I am more than hapy with HT maul!

even if you preffer the SSC maul thats fine, it does present to be one of SSC better figs made, prob top 5 or even top 3 for some as far as quality in design, so i dont think itll be a loss if you do not buy or upgrade to HT, if you dont have both in hand than it wont be a regret atleast thats how i feel i think SSC maul sits amongst other hottoys well so again if you choose to stuick with SSC maul and not purchase HT maul youll remain happy, if you do purchase HT maul youll start to see the superiro level of detail and overall quality as a whole.

So my Deluxe Maul arrived today. Out of the box I was initially really happy with him, the head sculpts are truly amazing. BUT as soon as I picked him up his right bicep was shattered in several places, not fixable, has to go back to SS. Was still excited to check out the speeder, figured I could have Palpatine ride it while Maul was getting replaced, but nope! The left hand side foot rest was snapped off. Hopefully this thing just got beat up in shipping and it's not an issue for anyone else.

The scout droid is in good shape though, so at least there's that! :rotfl

Quick update here: SS customer service is amazing and they are sending me a new body. I always find they are super nice to deal with. :yess:

I don’t know why they hold hands, but it might be a way of saying that “we are different and still in the same boat”.
Interesting how people who own both, and comment here, are almost equally divided in which one they prefer.

Now having both in hand, I 100% prefer the HT Maul, hands down. SSC is still a good figure but for me the HT Maul is great. Only problem though is he has a paint application issue which I have contacted Sideshow for an exchange.

I wish we could get side by side comparison shots where the figures are well futzed, neither looks their best in that image.

So I bravely opened mine to do a quick inspection. Let it be known that this figure does not suck. There’s nothing sucky at all about it.

The waxy smooth skin and overpowering red is not an issue in hand as I feared.

Is it Park? No, but neither is SS. This is Darth Maul!! The horn detail is just sic!!!
Like me, no one is yet to capture a good photo that will do this figure justice. Don’t wait if you’re on the fence!!!

Exactly what he said! I have had both and sold the SS one for 2 reasons.

1. The body on HT version is better quality and build is more accurate

2. The red paint app on SS was a bit too light IMHO after seeing them side by side just how reddish orange the SS version looked.
