Apes is huge overseas. And, yes, folks ^^^^^ about SS prices getting higher, but I think Hot Toys quality is way better than what SS has been putting out. Not necessarily $150 worth better, but I'm anxious to see what they offer and at what price. :monkey5

I had no idea. The films are good. Just never followed them enough to know how big they are outside of the US. I wouldn't say WAY better but to each his own. :duff I'll be curious to see what they do as it might lead to what they do with LOTR somehow. I hope.

I would think that depends on how well they sell. As was pointed out these didn't jump off the shelves at the price SS charged. I can't imagine too many fans wanting to double dip when these will be what 3x the original cost? Again, maybe I'm underestimating the POTA fan base.

I wonder how many are gonna be first time POTA buyers like myself. I passed on the SS offerings because they weren't nice enough to bother with but I'm sure I'll be getting a few from HT.

Unless they offer something new (like Ape-O-Nauts) the upgrade in quality would have to be really substantial to get me to buy new ones. I really like the Sideshow figures... aside from the bodies I think they are really great.

Definitely don't underestimate the Asian PotA fanbase. Other than Sideshow and Hasbro, the most PotA toy collectible stuff has been produced over here for this market. I'm thinking of the little Medicom figures from a few years ago, put into production when PotA was mostly off the pop culture radar in the U.S.

That ended up being a pretty extensive line, and the best PotA work until Sideshow produced their awesome 1/6th line.

One the world's foremost PotA memorabilia collectors is a fashion designer from here in Japan. I think the market here will easily absorb some high end ape figures and then some.

But we'll see! I'm excited to get a look at these. I doubt I'll be able to afford all of them but I'd love to cherry pick some of my favorite characters.

These will sell well. Sideshow mucked up when they introduced a new marketing strategy, which was, release too many figures from the one line that can't possible be absorbed by the collectors disposable income, while pumping out other lines at a casual pace. I remember my head spinning and wondering which were the offerings that were going to be snapped up quick, and trying to work out how my budget was going to cope playing catch up. Sideshow had a heap of good licenses at the time, all groping for the same dollar. They were doing themselves harm.

Hot Toys bearded Taylor wont probably even get to land on a shop shelf, and collectors are going to have to change their underwear once they see an Ursus with the correct head gear.

To somewhat justify the $100+ cost they could package each figure with a large part of the apocalyptic Statue of Liberty. Collect them all and build and piece together Lady Liberty for use as a backdrop in displaying the figures.

I also want a Gorilla ape on a horse. That should be done before anything!!

I bought the 1st 5 or 6 SS Apes, but sold all of them off- as usual, there were too many things to nitpick about them, and they felt unsatisfactory to me.
I would give HT a try. They may make apes that really wow me.

I'm gonna laugh if this winds up being the Tim Burton movie. :lol

:rock Galactiboy and me would be sooo happy if that happens.

Ah the voice from beyond the grave :lol

I think one factor that helps me enjoy the Sideshow Ape figures is that I got all of them for half price or less. I remember getting Zira, Cornelius and Zaius all for around $45 shipped :rock

Personally, I think the SSC Apes were pretty good and it will take a lot for me to repurchase HT versions of the same characters. I guess if they use real hair and it looks good that could sway me.

I wonder how many fans would prefer fully sculpted over real hair? Maybe someone should start a poll?

I think SS's sculpts were ok but it's the quality and fit of the clothing, the paint apps and TT body that will make a HT POTA purchase worthwhile for me.

I thought the SS versions looked pretty good. Their outfits were prolly better quality than the real ones worn in the flicks.
