I really don't understand all the complaints. The guy looks damn good to me! But I'm not a prop aficionado. I'm just a guy who loves movies....

Ditto. And that's my issue. It never once looked like that in the movie.

Man, that Kenner head is pretty impressive still, nicely detailed for the time period it was released.

Indeed. The shape of the mouth, the proportions of the top lip to the skull, the chin etc, and the chrome teeth - all great.

Perhaps the Kenner sculptors had so little to go on back then. There were no sequels. No other interpretations. They were probably given solid reference material and they stuck to it. Which is how it ought to be.

The figure is not crap by any stretch of the imagination IMHO, but the likeness and accuracy are crap.

I'm really not impresed by this at all, and its a damn shame
coz' I would love a 1/6 alien. This just isn't the one.

lol love the head-slapping image! indeed, if you are even remotely a fan of ALIEN, then you should be offended at this pile of crap. it IS crap because it is a slap in the face. They shouldn't even call this ALIEN, because it isn't. If you are satisfied with this, then I can't imagine how apesh#t you would go over an ACCURATE ALIEN. For the price tag, we deserve accuracy, not mediocrity.

Perhaps you're right. Makes sense.

The trouble is, because of the multiple animatronic parts on the Rambaldi Alien head, there are any number of face sculpts that could be viewed as "right". For the Kenner sculpt, they seem to have based it on the position of the mouth and lips etc seen at 1:04 in this You Tube clip:

Which was a good call, in my opinion. It looks right.

It seems Hot Toys have just winged it, doing what they think is right for the mouth, but not actually trying to replicate any of the original features from any of the various props.

It's not like the detailing around the mouth isn't crystal clear either. They could quite easily map where all the various tendons etc are, in 3D on a computer if they so wished.

I completely agree. I think they just gave Tsang free reign. I'm sure they did have ref materials, but for the most part, they're perfectly ok with a stylized version.

I think the body is good, although again there are inaccuracies. But the head is pretty awful, not "Fairly Good" at all.

I'm not exactly rabid about it though. I just think it's a shame.

this figure is not crap.

show the hot toys big chap to 10 regular people who have seen the movie. you'll get 10 out of 10 people identifying it as the alien creature from the movie. so how is it "not ALIEN" ?

is the figure 100% accurate? of course not. is it a fairly good representation of the character? yes it is. i'm all for pushing for more accuracy, but this rabid over-reaction and negativity is getting a bit out of hand.

Actually the images were in response to both yours and EVILFACES posts. If you don't like the way the figure turned out that is fine, but the way you react and throw your teddies from the pram is pretty immature, and to call the figure 'a pile of crap' shows no respect to the artistry involved in producing it.
I just hope you enjoy being angry and not owning it!

Why all the back and forth of both sides commenting in effort to make the other side join your opinion. If people think this figure is crap, let them think it's crap, makes it easier for those liking it to acquire one. If people like this figure, let them enjoy it, no need to imply they're less fans of ALIEN than you simply because they can enjoy the figure despite it's inaccurracies.

Everyone collects for differents, has different tastes in collectibles, holds the value of exacting accurracy to different levels of importance.

All that matters is how you feel about it, and if you like it good, if you don't good. Be your own collector and form your own opinions and feel free to share them, but there's no need to go after the credibility of opposing opinions, you can point and counterpoint and make conversation out of differing opinions without judging what another's opinion is.

I've been one of the most vocal critics of this figure (and pretty much all aliens made by Hot Toys) in terms of accuracy, and I'm still mystified as to why exactly HT decides to make them like this, but as far as interpretations go, they're pretty much kick ass figures.

These are not the end-all, be-all of alien figures in 1/6 scale (and I do hope we get them some time) but as far as collectibles go, they're great.

the problem with that is HT COULD make it the ultimate 1/6 alien. but choose not to.
i'm not an art collector, and i'm not paying $150+ for an "interpretation" (read: "inaccurate sculpt").
