What you're saying only makes the figure mediocre to you.

You want the figure to be as close to 100% like the ALIEN as possible and consider whatever percentage correct HT got, to fall short and unworthy of being called a figure of Giger's ALIEN and therefore consider it to be mediocre, but that is based on what you care about in this figure.

I'm sure the people who like the figure and don't feel it's mediocre aren't hung up on it having to be 100% accurrate.

It is 2 opinions on how this figure measures up, but not fact.

The fact in this whole siutation is that the figure is not 100% accurrate, that is fact as proven by the die hards in this thread.

How you feel about that that fact is opinion.

while i am not looking for 100% accuracy (but you ARE looking to put words in my mouth, thank you kindly), it is fact that this figure does not represent the Giger Alien. FACT. Not opinion. If you chop off the head, then it is pretty darn close, without getting all nitpicky on little details. but the FACT of the matter is that the head is the first and most important part of any figure. And this head easily does NOT look like the real head in the movie. That is a fact. I would not even say it comes close to looking like, except that is is long and phallic. Detail-wise, it falls short.

All I've been trying to say is that simply because these facts make your opinion of the figure that it's mediocre does not mean those liking it like mediocrity. While yes, that's a conclusion someone could add up in their head (if someone else thinks it's mediocre but I like, that means that person thinks I like mediocre things), you don't have to call people out for it and can be a bit more respectful of them and their point of view.

Same goes for everyone, no one's point of view is the right one by which all others should be measured, it's just yours and differing ones should be respected.

On the subject of the figure, I'll most probably get it, but it's not a "must-have" figure for me. The Medi-alien was a must-have, the NECA was a must-have, but this one's just another cool alien toy, like the other HT aliens.

What really is baffling to me is why HT want to make their aliens inaccurate. I refuse to believe it's just a matter of cost-cutting, not investing enough time and R&D into the the sculpting and making of the figure. On the other hand, if it were some kind of choice of theirs (let's make a whole series of interpretations of the different aliens and put them under the Movie Masterpieces label! High five!) it would be a bit strange... I mean, I don't recall ever hearing people asking for interpretations of the aliens, people want the aliens, period.

So why choose to make them inaccurate?
Could it really be just a matter of keeping R&D costs down?

I'm sure Joseph Tsang's time is not cheap, so telling him "go and make a kick ass alien based on the first movie's alien" must be cheaper than telling him "make me an exact replica of Giger's alien, down to the number of molars on the oxen jaws in the ankles"!
However, Medicom did come up with a fantastically accurate sculpt (sans oxen jaws, though )... so does that mean Medicom was willing to sink more money into R&D for their figure?
I know a bit of the behind the scenes of the NECA figure and how much time, research and work was invested into making it, but that is a matter for Tankman (Kyle) to discuss if he so wishes, but I can tell you that it was a true labor of love.

So maybe, just maybe, more than just a choice of following in Takeya's foot-steps and creating their own versions of the aliens, what HT is doing is keeping costs down on the R&D for the sculpts. Money they might use for the R&D on the mechanics of the base bodies for the aliens?

I don't know, I'm just typing as I think...
Maybe I should stop thinking!

well, if it doesn't look like the movie, there really isn't any point in paying $150+ for it.
if this was a $40 McFarlane figure, there wouldn't be nearly as much criticism. but, it ain't.

I think there's an emotional factor to, I know a lot of folks had high hopes for HT making Big Chap, to have an accurrate Big Chap with the design Quality that Hot Toys is uinque for with their Aliens and they may be feeling a bit stuck with whatever else is out there for accurrate stuff and let down they can't get an HT version they hoped for.

I think, as I've stated before, what really burns alot of the nay-sayers/Alien purists here (myself included) is that Hot Toys worked EXTRA hard to get the original Predator right.
They got as close to movie accurate as possible while maintaining a poseable figure.

They, obviously, did not put the same effort into the Big Chap.

That alone, speaks volumes of how HT views the different fans of the two movies.

Why should we Alien fans not expect the most accurate figure possible from Hot Toys?

We must not compare the preds with the aliens.i think alien bodies ,are more articulated and more detailed and its difficult to make them exactly as they appear in the movies.i really like Big Chap.thats my opinion
