Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

Yeah, what I meant was that the A3 is solid around the elbows and knees, and that it looks like the latest alien has that same type of construction, even up to the hips.

Wasn't very clear though...

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

Ultimately, on this figure, I want what's sturdiest. Articulation is pointless if it becomes a big floppy mess like the Aliens figure. I want this thing to be able to hold poses. If it can be very articulated and do that like the first AVP figure, then give me all you can, if not, go sturdy with less articulation points.

So what's the deal -- where's the companion piece for this, where's Ripley in the spacesuit?

That would be nice. I would personally also like to see Dallas in his non-spacesuit outfit and Ash, but I don't guess Hot Toys has much interest in producing such dull-looking figures.

I hate to say, but I have a hunch, not coming. I'd have figured her to be the only other figure to get made besides the xenomorph, and likely she'd be in a space suit too, and with them already having the base suit done, it's not like there'd be much to make for her but a head to go in it, so if they didn't have her ready to reveal at the same time as the creature, i think Big Chap is the end of the HT ALIEN line.

Out with a whimper...

:slap

Such a great movie too.

How many other times has it happened with HT Though.

Their name is applcable, HOT Toys, if it's not some big guarantee seller, they don't seem to take a chance on it. I'm guessing Kane and Dallas did ok, but not to levels where a Ripley, especially without likeness rights, would be worth their while.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

True.

I think that Dallas and even Kane will be nice to have down the line though. Especially if this is really it. Could become quite sought after, since there's not much out there to represent the Nostromo crew.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

They may, but that's where their "value" comes in, lack of options, on their own, people probably didn't find much desire for them, but may change their minds later because of lack of options.

HT seems to focus on what will sell very well today, right now, on it's own value to people and not the lack of options type sales. Even then, there's figures at times it doesn't quite make sense why you never see them as they seem liked they'd be as good a seller as the other figures, like Barbossa in the POTC line. Look at their lines though, and it's pretty obvious.

IRON MAN
Mark I, Mark II, Mark III, SDCC Ex. Mark, Mark III BD (nothing but variations of the hero, not even the villain)

THE DARK KNIGHT
Batman Begins, The Joker, Batman TDK, Joker BR, Two-Face, Joker DX, Batman DX (only the 3 mains)

PREDATOR
Dutch, Billy, Predator (and really, I don't get Billy, by HT standards, Dutch would have been enough)

ALIEN
Dallas, Kane, Big Chap (and if it weren't for the unique suits, I doubt we'd even have Kane and Dallas)

And how well do you think a Ripley fig...that didn't look like Ripley...would go over?

Without Weaver's likeness rights, I never saw this as being anything other than a pipedream for some.

And I know several will claim that HT's "ALIENS" Ripley SORTA looks like her. But, it's a far cry from how well the Dallas sculpt looks. A "kinda looks like Ripley" fig in spacesuit just wouldn't cut it.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

I understand what you mean, Sean, but I really had to unscramble that thought process thru your words. :lol

Point is: they'll make more Jokers but drop Barbossa, Bishop and the Nostromo guys.

This is the reason I refused to get Billy from Predator. I don't have faith that HT would ever complete the team... and worse, they'd probably leave a KEY member or two out.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

At $150, I dont' see a Ripley selling well without rights, and even with, not sure how big a seller she'd be, there are a great many collectors who just like creatures from these movies and don't care for the humans at all, or at least not enough that in today's price range with figures, the economy, and the number of things being made, to buy them.

Really, I love ALIEN as a film, but as far as spending this money on figures, Big Chap and Ripley are it for me, Hicks was it for ALIENS, I just don't care about any of the other humans to the point of wanting figures of them, especially not when so many other characters I would like in figure form are being made too.

Unfortunately it's true. The days of people being willing to buy something with the intent of repainting or upgrading seems dead ever since HT upped the game so much, especially in the last year. Since that damn Joker.

I blame the Joker. :D

HT's like a significant other where the sex is great. When you're not getting some, they can annoy you and piss you off to no end, but when they do give you some, it's so good you find yourself putting up with the other BS for it :lol

It's money as much as anything. What was the ALIENS Ripley, $80-$85, pretty much same for all the ALIENS humans give or take. With the fees for the work or materials to upgrade, your updates would come out to about a finished HT figure price today, not bad in the end. Now the HT figures start that high and you have to add onto that to update it.

I think pricing has trimmed down what people are willing to spend outright knowing they're going to spend more money to upgrade it after the fact. If it's something they absolutely want, they'll buy knowing they'll be putting money and work into it after the fact, if not, they'll pass.

I'd be curious to see how people's ALIENS marines collections would build up if that line were today, same quality, at $125-$150 each.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

I dont like geting in to a line and not have all the mane characters made.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

I don't see Ripley getting made. If Kane and Dallas would have sold out, maybe. What sells well in the past gets new collectibles made. If stores have to discount items to move them, making less money or losing it, they tend to avoid investing in similar products.

It seems collectors have spoken and many don't want to pay retail for the humans from Alien.

It works both ways though. Not long ago, a custom figure could cost around $300 to get made. So yes, marines starting around $80 made sense.

But then HT made insane figures for $125-$150 and the whole bottom fell out with expectation. People expect a perfect figure for $150 now.

The exactness of detail has increased while the expectation of what you should have to pay has gone down. That, and the economy created a great shift in how and what people collect.

Most of this article is just sucking up HT saying how great how perfect and how accurate this Big Chap is, so I'll skip that.

Fact
This project start over a year ago, they finished the development and were ready for mass production until Howard made them back to the drawing board cos the finish product is not up to his standard. Then they hired Joseph Tsang to do the new sclupt.

The material used on this new Big Chap will be PVC instead of rubber to get more detail and better paintjob, the join will be cover by PVC so the movement will be limited.

The 3 small pics on the lower left cornor from P.3 were the original Big Chap canned by Howard.

The official pics were just a prototype, dont event have join install yet.

The finall product will include a pair of extra hands.

Price below $130USD
