To me they are separate. In theory, the HT sculpt was probably in NECA shape at some point while Yulli made it, an early, roughing out the forms stage, then taken steps further to refine and polish it up. However, the NECA stage is essential to likeness. Now, NECA doesn't go past that point, HT does, but doesn't mean that NECA can't get more right in the raw capturing of the facial structure than a polished portrait. If HT's head has Harrison Ford's nose and Stallone's eyes and The Rock's mouth, just because it's all nice and refined doesn't mean it succeeded in looking like Arnie. There are basic structural details to capture for a portrait to resemble Arnie, and there is room to question if NECA or HT captured those better or worse than the other. Thinking NECA looks all chiseled and rough in its finish is not relevant to anatomical comparison, it's an opinion on the finished quality of the two companies, and like I said, of course there's no comparison, HT strives to capture every little pore and wrinkle there, NECA leaves rough edges and cuts that look like it was carved in stone.

Thank you!! Couldn't have put it better myself. This is where I've been coming from.

I'm certainly not arguing that Hot toys does not look like Arnie - of course it does. The eyes alone sell it for me. NECA can't claim that - the eyes are unpainted on the Pescadero and the one eye of the Final Battle figure looks quite cartoony unfortunately. However, overall down to the basics, I do think from what I see so far that NECAs raw sculpt is more accurate. I wish it had a Hot Toys finish.

This man speaks the truth. But you can't go backwards in time. I used to collect NECA/McFarlane stuff and thought it was pretty cool! No more.

McFarlane figures were pretty cool back in the day, when Hot Toys wasn't around. They had a whole line of anime and movie figures. But, we graduated from that stuff :lol

Right now HT makes really great HQ figures, but back than when the T1 Kyle Resee was came out etc...well HT was not great IMO. They sculpts were just simply horrible really. They are became really good IMO maybe 4 years ago and right now they are the best at the 1/6 area by far.

Yeah, but as MaulFan said, if your happy with the way it looks then why should you care about other people's opinion.

Very true...and then someone posts something like this -

- more condescension which just plain irritates me. As it is intended to perhaps and I can't help but fall for it every time. :D

How is it that I used to collect McFarlane, moved up to Hot Toys, then saw some really cool figures from NECA, bought them, and am continuing to buy Hot Toys aswell. I guess I just don't understand the need to be so dismissive of something you not so long ago loved and collected - just because theres something else now.

I took your advice and went to TRU and checked out the NECA. I just couldn't bring myself to buy it. It looks like a cheap toy and considerably out of place amongst a shelf of high-end collectibles.
I thought you had been given the Neca as a present or something? Therefore had already seen it, held it, whatever. Maybe I have the wrong person but i'm sure you said something like that the last time this debate was about.

Sorry guys, I reread some pages back but didn't find an answer: is the top picture a "tweak" of the bottom sculpt? Or is it just the angle? Just looks different to me somehow. Curious if HT did something. Looks narrower in the forehead and wider in the jaw, which is a good thing.

We are so spoiled.

Yes we are. Just look at how insane that is.

Not long ago, people were satisfied with Bespin Han's sculpt. :lol

In my opinion it's just the angle mate, he looks different in all the pics really, just depending on the angle. I think the close up shot of the headsculpt, the 2nd picture in your post, shows him off at the best angle.

Here's another shot from the same show/display.

I think it's the shadowing on that other photo of the hair, the front spike isn't very defined in it so your eyes can perceive the height of his head a little differently. I think with the hair done as it has been, different lighting of it will cause different perceptions of the overall head. Some shots have been quite unflattering to this figure while others make it look great.

The images we've seen over the last few days have overtook the MILK magazine scans as my favourites. I must admit after seeing the tommy's blog shots, to me he didn't look as good as I thought he would. Now though after these in hand pics my excitement for him is back at an all time high, he is absolutely 100% perfect in my eyes, no complaints from me!

This pic, now cropped, sells me on the Arnie likeness more than any other shot so far. Without the flash to light up those eyes, you can really see the sculpt is so there.

Looks like a friggin' film still....

Thats a good shot alright. The expression reminds me of the part where they commandeer the car in the escape from Pescadero - the bit where Arnie is striding towards it while Sarah orders the security guard out.

The hair and the forehead have something that does not convince me at all. It is as if the front was too wide or wider and more hair missing in the growth area to the sides. I don´t know.

something happens like what happens with the hair growth area in leonidas headsculpt

The lack of more hair on the sides of his head is to accomodate his sunglasses.

I'm sorry, but Arnie looks slightly off in this photo.

It doesn't matter, as long as you end up with a collectible you're happy with, it's irrelevant what other people think of it, it's your purchase and you have to live with the decision. Everyone on this board could hate the HT T-800 figure and I'd still buy it because I'm happy with it.

Not true for all cases :) If youwere a noob like me back 6months ago I was happy with TDK V1 and then you guys all brainwashed me and now I am almost as picky as most of you .. ah those ere the days :lol
