Don't know if I should have painted it grey first, but gunmetal almost seems black....
Whenever I've painted gunmetal on Vader customs, I find that darker is good as the relation to the black is more subtle, which is how it appeared to me onscreen until you see a prop in person and the difference is shockingly overbearing.

started the chest repaint:

Wow. It's remarkable how wrong HT painted the chest armor. Matt S's is looking great.

Thanks all....I appreciate the words of support.....I am pretty critical of any adjustments I do....and as such, my own worst critic

ok, while that is drying, started the hand mod.....let me know what you all think. Simple one

The main issue being the texture of the hand doesn't match the glove part...but its ok I guess

Yes, exactly and yes again to the ESB. Didn't have an ANH glove to rip up - gave that to my cousin....guess I need to break into his house and steal back some ANH gloves...LOL

I was planning on making the upcoming PF the only Vader in my collection but you guys are making it tough.

I might try it. Funny thing about that armor...the gunmetal color people recommend for the prop looks more shiny metallic, but on screen it looks darker like yours. I guess it's a case of in person vs. screen colors. Kind of like how han solo's hoth jacket looks more blue vs. actual brown

I've noticed it too. On a Facebook page that has a lot of vintage pics, a member indicated that the brushstrokes on the black parts appear somewhat gunmetal in certain shots. So, yeah, sticking with my darker gunmetal. Think I got lucky with that one, overall...

It changes so much that you can't really be wrong. Here's mine in its current state. Camera flash makes it a lot brighter/shiny that it comes across in person. I might just leave it as is

I found putting a thin black wash over the gunmetal really evens out the contrast between colours, and makes it look much more unified. ties all the colours and textures together.

I darkened the gunmetal on my armor some more as well. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic

Just posting another comparison shot to the Sideshow Vader (HT left, SS right). I can't believe how off the Sideshow Vader looks compared to the Hot Toys.

That figure was released almost ten years ago though, wasn't it?

Ten years ago this hobby, as we know it today, was still in its infancy. Hell, besides Sideshow, Medicom and DiD... I can't even remember who else was in the biz back then. And Medicom has since practically withdrawn from the 1/6 market and Sideshow has become the fallen angel of the industry.

We were lucky that Vader was even produced at the time. I mean, it still looks presentable, albeit more for Chad Vader skits perhaps.
