Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

As I mentioned in the Vader thread, I think Sir Alec Guiness' portrait need some tweaking. IMO the only things that make it better than the classic Sideshow 1/6 release are the sculpting of the hair and the paint.

Trevor's sculpt is STILL the best I've seen. Wish it had JC paint apps.

Gandalf Kenobi.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Yeah, even though I'm in for the set and I'm not a fan of hyperbole, I would go so far as to say that there is pretty much no likeness at all. Even to a younger Guiness. It's an older guy (but 10 years younger than Guiness in ANH) with Guiness' hair cut and curlier beard (reminds me of the criticisms of SSC's Saruman PF) and a damn good costume.

I've tried my best to see Guiness in this sculpt and still can't detect it. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to having a definitive Guiness Obi-Wan. I do hope this shuts up the "HT is going to kick SSC's ass" crowd up just a little bit. I doubt it, though. They don't seem like the introspective type that can ever learn.

Since Sideshow and Hot Toys are bros, too bad Sideshow couldn't use Hot Toys production factory/manufacturing process for their portraits.

Imagine the SS old Ben sculpt with Hot Toys paint and texture.

Seriously. Let HT take a crack at that Trevor Grove Hoth Han sculpt too.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Looks quite a bit like Alec Guinness to me...

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

All everyone does is complain on these boards. Honestly, no wonder Hot Toys stick with Iron Man suits, don't have to worry about all the sculpt likenesses constantly.

Is their a single human figure being released now that isn't getting bashed for it's head sculpt from either SSC or HT?

It seems that every Star Wars figure from both companies have issues and I don't see how they can ever be perfect.

I'm glad I'm not a perfectionist when it comes to these figures and when I have them in my collection I'm not going to be picking them apart every time I see them. I'm not sure how people can get enjoyment from owning figures that they're only going to see the faults in.

Luckily we all have a choice to purchase something or decide to pass.

There have been plenty of great sculpts churned out by HT and they get due cred. Nobody is complaining about SS x-wing Luke, or even Hoth Luke and Han especially, save the hope that the production piece matches the proto. Just about every sculpt in my collection has a better sculpt than this. Hyperbole runs in two directions.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Sculpt needs work. Still down for this, as he's my favorite SW character. If he wasn't, I'd be passing with that sculpt.

the sculpt is nice, I dont like the stitching on the shirt collar it looks odd and i have a feeling he is wearing a dicky and not a full shirt because he wore a smoothknit mock turtleneck in film. granted SSC gave him a rib knit and this the top stitching is to distracting to tell. I just watched ANH last night and there is issues with the cloak it seems not full bodies as if this was deliberate to display.and the robe looks like gauze and not sandy beige like it is suppose to.

I might just wait and buy head and saber, this is hugely disappointing.

:lol He thinks people don't complain about Iron Man suit likenesses :lol

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

you should go look at pictures of Alec Guinness then :lol
I have, and I still think it looks a helluva lot like him.

If someone were to show me that head sculpt alone, with no hair, I think it would still be very easy to identify it as Alec Guinness.

With that being said I don't think it's perfect. He looks too young and the eyes may be a bit too far apart IMO.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I think he looks a little more Guinnessy in this one:

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

the sculpt is what they got going for him, and i need a belt, so look forward to him broken down

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Well...........the sabre thingy is plastic and not of light so I'd consider it a failure of epic proportions.......**** you HT

Still buyin.......

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I'm still digging the sculpt too.

Of course it ain't 'there'.. yet, but we all knew that on page 1 of the first pics, didn't we.
