Could you take some pictures of both of them for comparison?

Sorry, I would have done some comparison pics but I sold my SSC Kenobi.

Fantastic shots. I just love this figure! I do agree he looks more like the actor in some lighting versus others but overall I'm very pleased.

That last round of pics look excellent paramore! Thanks to both you and stealth for the stellar views :clap

the in hand pictures, greatly surpass the quality of the promotion pictures Hot Toys used.

Para, impressive work!!

Beautiful pics, Stealth and para. :duff

Beautiful pics.......sabre isn't bad but I'll never light it up so no worries

Paramore to the rescue!:rock

That looks pretty amazing.

paramoremcr88, you're photos are exceptional and definitely highlight the positives of this sculpt. Even though it is not perfect, I'm really happy with this figure. Can't wait to get it since I sold off my SSC version last month to help pay for this one.

:goodpost:

It's definitely the HT sculpt for me as well. I get what people are seeing in the SS version, but it really does look like a caricature. Sure, the expression on this figure may be a bit too grim, but it still looks great.

Thanks for the excellent pics! More excited for this figure by far than I was even a few days ago.

Thanks everyone :duff

Yeah to me the Sideshow sculpt even repainted looks more like a caricature of Guinness than a real representation of him. I'm happy with how the Hot Toys one looks but I never had a big problem with it to begin with.

Agreed.

Amazing pics Paramore! Amazing.
Im in for all the HT star wars, so even jedi mind tricks won't work on me.lol
Are you getting any of the TFA figures? Would love to see what they look like in your pics.

Thanks! I'm not planning on getting any of TFA figures at the moment.

Hey where did all the haters go? LOL typical. Fantastic pics para!!

Me and Stealth were talking about this the other day. Every figure goes through the same routine. The majority immediately judge a figure by 1 or 2 terrible phone camera pictures and say the figure is awful. No it's the photos that are awful. The blogger photos are hit and miss also. The best photos to judge from are the ones taken by the collectors themselves (and I'm not talking about my own... 'collectors' means all of us:wink1:), as they actually care about the figure they're photographing. It's a character they love and have paid a lot of money out for so they're going to take the time to futz and pose properly. And of course the best time to judge it is when you have your own figure stood in front of you.

There seems to be some sort of mathematical relationship between paramoremcr88 and the haters. As the number of photos posted by paramoremcr88 in a Hot Toys thread increases, the number of negatrons who post in the thread decreases. Negativity seems to reach a fever pitch just before the first paramoremcr88 photo.

So far, I have only observed this in the Chewbacca thread and now this one. This will definitely require further study and perhaps a doctoral dissertation... Will wait for the HT Vader thread to confirm my theory. :wink1:

:lol

Well I'll leave the studying to you and report back after Vader pics have been posted!

the only issue i see personally is the mustache , should be light brown , as well as down the middle of the beard , other then that its an amazing figure

Agreed.

I don't like the hood on any of para shots. It does not capture the essence of Obi's hood. Not sure if it's the shots or the actual fabric size from Hot Toys.

I'm not overly keen on the hood. I found it a little hard to futz. I think it's too small?

Shame that I will have to spend $220 plus on most likely the only Hot Toys Ben we will ever get, sadly it does not do Alec Guinness justice.

I think it does.

Great pics does not change the fact that this is just a decent figure.

I go back and forth on this guy, but these are (I think) my final thoughts on this figure.

It is a decent figure that could have been a whole lot better.

Starting with the hair.... it looks like grey cool whip spread on top. Does not look good to me at all or really representative of Alec hair. The hood needs to be up on this figure for that reason alone.

The beard is inaccurate, no pics can change that.

The eyes are the biggest issues. They really throw the figure off. Sure, hood up and a shadow effect to the point the eyes are blacked out, it makes the figure look pretty decent to good, but sitting on my shelf.... how will it look? Is there one single picture of just a normal shot, no fancy photography that clouds judgement.... The ones that I did find made Ben look very pale and somewhat Asian looking.

The inner robes.... material used I do not like. It is not thick enough and the brown undershirt is easily visible through it. Even that brown undershirt... looks cheap. I much prefer the SSC inner robes and undershirt. As far as the brown Jedi robe goes.... that looks pretty good. I like that.

LED lightsaber looks like a shrunken down 1/6th Hasbro toy lightsaber.

I think Ben is by far the weakest Star Wars offering Hot Toys has put out.... and maybe will ever put out.

Shame that I will have to spend $220 plus on most likely the only Hot Toys Ben we will ever get, sadly it does not do Alec Guinness justice.

I view this figure now as a representation of a Old Ben take from Hot Toys, not Alec Guinness as Ben.

yep I agree im sorry to those that this awesome. some of the stuff I like about it I might get parts to up grade my repainted ssc Kenobi like the foot ware instance. and maybe the inner robe. the robe it`s self is to dark and looks cheap the hood is to small to me.

If anything, Para, as good as your pics are, it was the final nail in the coffin for me.... this figure can never just look like Alec 100% of the time in any pose or any lighting. A great figure can be plopped down and be great. It should not have to be futzed or special lighting or high tech cameras for it to look good. It should hold merit on its own. Which this Ben can not. In just a normal pic it looks like a random representation of Ben. Headsculpt looks like Coburn or generic old guy.

I think a lot of my disappointment comes from how great all the other offerings are for Hot Toys Star Wars and then there is this. Han, Luke, Leia, and although Chewbacca goes against what I just said, fixed up right, Chewy looks great to, those, to me, are perfect. I see Carrie, Harrison and Mark when I look at them, unfortunately not for this.

I agree that`s why I will pick up parts for ben. I do like HT han leia and chewie ( which I can`t wait to get by the way). luke I don't know I don't see mark quiet yet. in some shots yeah and then in some shots looks like tom cruise

I started a Sideshow Ep4 Obi-Wan Kenobi modification and custom thread to separate out these two topics. I think both threads will be helpful as people consider their options like I am doing. I'm still very much undecided so I would love to see more Hot Toys in hand pictures and reviews as they come in here on this thread and I'd love to see and hear what people are doing to upgrade their old Sideshow Kenobi on the other thread. Thanks, I hope this helps :)

These are the pics I was using to base my decision on. From what I've seen, the only two "stellar" SSC Ben repaints are Shortround's and Marfmaster's (one or both repainted by silentsurfer, which I believe is around $200 for the repaint.) Most other repaints I don't feel really improve the SSC paint very much, and at best look like oil paintings of Ben. These are also my favorite HT Ben pics so far...

EDIT - oh crap, I meant to post this in Jaymas' new thread.:slap

:exactly: I had SS Ben at one point and I considered having it repainted. When I considered repainting, I didn't find the value. I felt the sculpt had good. / bad points which a talented painter marginally improved while others .... using your words made it look like an oil painting.

Fast forward to the next available 1:6 scale Kenobi (Hot Toys) which also has faults. it doesn't leave a lot of options when it comes to Ben with little faith more is coming on the horizon. It isn't rocket science, a simple matter of preference.

i see the haters have returned and in greater numbers..................

No, Haters ride in single file to hide their numbers.

I've been thinking this sculpt would improve with a little paintwork. The mustache and beard are a good start. I'd like to see the eyebrows lightened as well. I was thinking he looks a little more Connery than Guiness with the dark eyebrows and beard.

Also, regarding the inner robe, I feel that HT did a PT/OT hybrid with the outfit and potentially the head sculpt. He looks a little young for ANH and his inner robes, pants and boots are reminiscent of his outfit in The Prequels (where they used a more refined material for his robe, not the burlap-like material from ANH).
