I think in general all of the Sideshow heads sculpted by Trevor had had better likenesses compared to the Hot Toys counterpart... but like all of the older Sideshow portraits the paint is pretty awful, they have zero skin texture and the heads are over-sized.

You can fix the paint, but the heads still look a bit basic and are too big. I still think the Sideshow does look better with a repaint, but I'll be getting this one as well and likely do a mix 'n match to get the best of both.

I'm sorry, but as good as the HT likeness is, I'll take a nice repaint of Sideshow's sculpt any day of the week.

Those SS sculpts were nice for their day but even with a nice repaint they still look very cartoony, like they just stepped out of a comic strip. The HT figs are by no means perfect(what figures are?) but realism and quality are on a different level to anything that's come before and i think will look stunning in hand

It's really a terrific likeness but up close the sculpt is too simplistic (making it a bit cartoony) - on SSC Ben's forehead you can literally see where the sculpt tool was dabbed here and there to make a few wrinkles. It's a bit like a great member-created custom sculpt created five years ago.

And overall stock paint aside, what is about every SSC figure's eyes from back then looking either drunk/bloodshot or somehow diseased? And now in the modern era we have a whole other set of SSC eye issues with Han and Luke Hoth... SSC really needs a "1/6 eye technology" department.:lol

Your custom Vader.:dunno

Yeah man, what is with that. :lol

For those who have an issue, you do at least have the option of putting the hood up like he's about to battle Vader.

Not kidding, its actually a good look, no one seems to do it.

I'm gonna put the hood up on mine I think. I like that look a lot as well. And because it doesn't have SSC eyes, I know that putting up the hood will be choice rather than a necessity.
:lol

Regarding the SSC head: I'm in the old but good camp. Looks great repainted but looks too caricature-like for my tastes. I take the sophistication and realism of the HT over the cartoony likeness. And that's not knocking the SSC head at all. It was amazing for it's day though and the repaints are great.

I am wondering how much a used SS ROTS Obi Wan goes for in the secondary market.

Not a lot... but still usually sells for more than retail and sometimes the exclusive will fetch a higher price.

I took some better shots of my repainted ANH Kenobi... I'm still getting the HT version as I think some parts will be an upgrade, but the Sideshow head is such a better likeness. I seen 100% Alec here, on the HT it's more like 80%.

totally agree 8 bit, I always thought the same about my repainted SS head. Its a better likeness for sure, sculpt detail and proportions may end up better on the HT, Ill probably buy it and combine whatever is the best of both worlds

I saw this figure at celebration and damn it looks good. It nice that HT is stepping up and release some decent SW figures now.

I wouldn't say they've been "stepping up" on the SW line by any stretch, but "decent" is on the money.
