Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

It's worth remembering that next year will see a new Batman movie and that may spur interest in the older movies so it's premature to count out Catwoman and Penguin just yet.

Not a chance. They've ignored Arkham City for years despite there being movies and new games coming out that could have 'spurred interest.' If its not a Marvel movie now, its just not a priority. They must have one guy on the staff that handles anything non-Marvel and he only finally go around to Batman Returns. I'd bet on seeing an Arkham City Joker before a Batman Returns Penguin or Catwoman. Heck, we'll see Batman v Superman's Joker cameo figure before any of those. We'll certainly get:

BvS: Superman
BvS: Batman
BvS: Armored Batman
BvS: Joker

with BIG maybes on Wonder Woman and Aquaman. I'd say the Batmobile was a certainty but the West Batmobile has been MIA for years now. The Batman license just doesn't have their attention like it did during the Nolan era. Its all about Marvel now.

Batman is dead.

:D

It's Iron Man now kiddies, get with the program, jeez.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

Really though how can you blame them for focusing on Marvel? DC sat on their hands too long while Marvel was developing their cinematic universe and gained a ton of popularity. Hot Toys is a business and wants to focus on what's big and will make them the most money. Marvel at the moment does that for them. Collectors may not like that, but from their perspective it makes total sense.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

I think this piece is a good example of why hot toys isn't as good as we all know it could be. I don't like this shady business of only including the Keaton head sculpt with the two pack. There are other hot toys figures that cost 229$ and have two head sculpts included. This is just like the winter solder 2-pack. That was a rip off and they knew it so they released that first and then, after they had screwed everyone over, they released the AOU Cap which cost 100$ less and included the Rogers head. Another thing that bothers me about this Batman returns set is the rubber body. My fellow collectors, I ask you, what is the point of 30+ points of articulation if you are not allowed to articulate the failure without fear of leaving stress marks at the joints due to a rubber suit. They should have included a bent set of dynamic arms and a straight neutral set. That is the answer to ugly visible joints, not rubber that limits posing options. Finally, the head sculpt is way off. Even the pics that JC Hong (correct me if I'm wrong there) released on his page don't look right. I think collectors need to stop supporting stuff like this or we will never get any better. Just because something gets you nostalgic and looks cool doesn't mean you should spend money on it if it's not a quality piece.

I though Joker would appear at Suicide Squad.

Something about the eyes troubles me. It's not bad just not as good as some of the other stuff I've seen.

They should have just done something similar to what they did with the Hulk - have cuts on his shoulders. It would be pretty well hidden, and you could actually articulate the arms and leave them in whatever pose you want.

Yea having arms made of a completly different material then the torso, legs and head would not look odd. And people would be thrilled to have a batman statue. Which is what you are proposing. If you want a returns batman that is not made of rubber buy a statue.

As for there being other 229 dollar figures with multiple heads....which one is it that has a completly new head sculpt (cap is a repaint this most of the tooling cost is already covered)?

I would love to see some of these people that claim it's easy to do these things actually do it. From scratch. So it can be mass produced. Heck, even show a proper plan.
Not a "just give me interchangeable arms" but a full plan. Like how you would actually do it. How it matches the torso. What attacent. How do you offset the cost of having to re-tool or engineer a new torso. All that stuff that would have to actually happen.

Yeah I was thinking something similar to the hulk actually.

HT loved to take risks before man, look at the Bat vehicles. The god damn Bat that only three people preordered. A freaking Dolorean that might just not sell all that well.

Elektro? Yeah, that's what I thought.

We are taking about a a company that makes crazy money with their Marvel offerings, they can easily risk thinking outside the box once in a while. Think of Apple, for example. Yes, some people do hate Apple. Apple fans are sheep. Ok. Whatever.

They sell crazy amounts of iPhones, and that right there gives them enough cash to risk making a freaking laptop with NO PORTS but ONE. A Watch that apparently no one needs.

Wouldn't you think that HT is losing that "magic" it once had? Yeah, designing a new body and etc etc in order to make the glider work might be a pain. But I'd assume that NOT doing a freaking Elektro or a "Bat" that No one will buy might have taken care of that. Even so, HT is perfectly capable (financially) to do it anyway.

You asked me to name a figure that had a new head sculpt and only cost slightly over 200$. I remember that the original amazing spider-Man hot toy had a new Andrew Garfield head sculpt and it didn't cost over 300. As for different parts of the figure being made of different materials well mixed media works well with the sideshow pieces.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

I think people are over-emphasizing the importance of the glider. I can see why some may have wanted it but if it's something that was going to compromise the overall look of the suit, which let's be honest I don't think separating the arms would be a great solution and yet another thing for people to complain about, I think the right choice was made. The glider is in such a short scene that it just overall isn't a vital accessory to include. Plus honestly how many people would actually display the figure that way anyways?

Good point. Most collectors choose to display their pieces in a dust free cabinet. Imagine the span of the wings of the glider. That would require a huge cabinet!

I would. And I'm sure a lot of others will. I would actually buy two sets.
