I never felt like they were "dollies" until I got the hot toys hulk
Then they suddenly felt like Barbie dolls to me
No shame though, I'm a collector

I got that feeling with the HT Dark Knight Rises Catwoman. Being a grown man fiddling with a dolls hair trying to get to look right definitely made me wonder if I maybe needed a new hobby.

Man, I could not believe how much space this toy got at the New York City Comic Con's Sideshow booth. It was like the whole booth was about Batman Returns. It was incredible.

I always called HTs dolls and probably always will. The ones that come with rooted hair really don't help the people trying to make the argument that these aren't.

figures, dolls, toys, whatever.

people spend their cash on car parts to use so they can drive them in circles at car shows and not make any profit on it.

people spend endless amounts of cash buying art pieces for home that no one will see but them.

people spend endless amounts of cash on handbags and shoes.

everyone has something they splurge on, we all work hard, nothing wrong with enjoying your interests and money [if you can afford it].

i only own 8 figures so it's not like i'm crazy about collecting, but i do buy the ones i really love. had a casual fiend of mine make some flippant comment recently about how i "waste so much cash on cool stuff" when i was at dinner with friends, he's an avid smoker, i asked him how many packets a week he spends on cigarettes, he said around 2-3, so thats around 60 bucks worth of there. i then pointed out how much money he's wasting on a week to week basis on smelling like a ****ing cigarette bin and developing lung cancer, he quickly shut up after that. nice guy, but he needs to take a seat, because $60 a week on cancer sticks is a waste of money to me, but hey, you don't see my lecturing him.

these "collectibles," dolls or action figures, clearly have more value and purpose to the collector than a regular gi joe or Barbie. Anyone who ignores that is just trolling. Call them whatever you want but these are different. If I buy action figures or dolls, it's to play with them. If I buy hot toys, it's because I want a display piece to remind me of something I really enjoy. maybe I am astounded by the likeness. Maybe it's because the engineering of the figure is remarkable. You want to try and lower it to a doll? Fine I just feel bad that you don't see these things the way that I do and if a doll is what you want then you are overpaying

To be fair, the term "doll" comes with a lot of baggage that it doesn't have to. I've seen some incredible fine art dolls that I would display proudly, and there's no mistaking them for a child's "dollie". I don't care what they're called, at the end of the day.

To stay technical, I'd have to refer to them as action figures, since they have more articulation than your average "doll".

Funny to read that a thread about the Hot Toys Batman Returns action figure has now turned onto a thread about dolls or action figures. Maybe someone could make a new thread and place a poll for users to vote on what they think those are.

I came here to read/contribute about batman returns, not arguing about "dollies" .. which is kinda creepy.

On that matter, I'm hopeful they will actually use Michael Keaton for the final sculpt, and not his stunt double like they did for the prototype pics.
