Re: Hot Toys - MMS - Avengers: AoU - Quicksilver figure discussion

There wasn't much to him. He was basically Wanda's fast brother. No development, nothing. We have no idea what this guy's about and then suddenly he's dead. Other than Wanda - who cares?

I'm a big fan of ATJ's, but this role didn't challenge him at all. Anyone could have played him.

But they talked about why they were doing what they were doing weren't they? It was all about Tony. They had some development.

To be honest, the same could be said about DoFP Peter (replace dead with written off).

I do agree that AoU Pietro didn't challenge ATJ, but I think he did a better job of getting us to care about him. An emotional backstory helps, even if it's as simple as getting revenge on Stark. That said, I wasn't especially sad when Pietro died; but he was at least a bit more fleshed out than Peter (who really was little more than a plot device for a fun action sequence).

The character definitely earned respect by what he did. I didn't care much for him for most of the movie, then at the end he risks his life and dies to save what was once his enemy (an avenger). So in his heroic action, it gave his character a purpose and reason to be in the film. Plus I'm sure it will play into Wanda's character in future films.

That's not development that's descriptive. And getting mad at the guy that made the bomb is about as dumb as blaming ford for a drunk driver.

Their whole plot line was rewritten and edited so much it became convoluted. I hate saying that. But when SW says about stark "all he wants is to make things right" after seeing into his head..after basically saying they hated the avengers becuase they did things and didn't care..it's bad writing/editing.

Sources about the plot line being rewritten and edited? She never said that after looking into his head. She said that in regards to Tony pulling off another mad experiment to "where do you think Ultron gets that?

Bombs are made to kill. Cars are made to be driven. Don't see those being the same at all.

Saw AoU on the big screen for a 4th and final time tonight. Cap and the twins are absolutely may favorite characters from this movie. Looking forward to seeing a Pietro figure.

The twins were cool, Pietro was cool, his death was very well done. If you disagree that's fine, I won't judge you for being wrong, every once in a while I am too.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - Avengers: AoU - Quicksilver figure discussion

The character was inconsequential to the story. he added nothing. It seemed he served no purpose but to die. His death compelled Scarlet to join the team, yet she had already decided to do that before he died. The only sad part is how no one in the cast (except for Scarlet) gave a **** about him. Even Hawkeye was like "Wow........that was close for me. I almost died, I gotta sit down."

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - Avengers: AoU - Quicksilver figure discussion

I never saw Hawkeye's little line when he lied down like that. He was all like "It's been a long day." You can see that he was clearly bummed about what happened. He said it, lied down, and was just looking at Pietro's body. People sometimes make subtle jokes like that. I know I kinda did the same when my dad passed. I don't know how to explain it exactly. I guess it's some what a way of coping. Im sure he was all like holy ****, I just died, but he still was bummed about it. But I'm sure it meant so much to him that Clint even name his son after him for his middle name.

Though can't you say a **** ton of supporting characters can be inconsequential to a story?

The audience had no emotional attachment or investment in this character. He had no motive, no aspirations or goals. In the eyes of the audience he was a total stranger.

I cared a little because I knew the character from the comics. Plus I think Scarlet Witch showed her deep loss. As a counterpoint, in Xmen First Class they killed off one of the original Xmen characters (absorbing guy or something) and I could care less. He wasn't in the comics as far as I had known. He was a Star Trek red shirt as far as I was concerned. I thought that death was done really poorly.

That was Darwin (his body evolves to survive), who was actually in the comics (introduced back in 2006 or so). I do agree his death was done poorly though; he was only on screen for tiny bits before he got killed off, so no one (outside of the characters) had any real attachment to him.

I think this fits snikt's description more aptly than Quicksilver in AOU. He, the twins, definitely had goals when they were with Ultron as well as when they turned against Ultron. Though I think the thousands and thounsands of people who bitched at Joss a month back on twitter would disagree with no one caring about him.

Bombs are made to kill. Cars are made to be driven. Don't see those being the same at all.

They are both tools. Who makes them is not the person that uses them. That's the connection. If cars is to far a jump, how about bullets. Or guns. Or lighters. The point is, it's the person using the tool that caused the issue. Not the tool.

As for her not looking into his head and saying that...she got into his head first meeting. Then later says the line. Hence, my point, of saying what she did AFTER getting into his head.

good or bad this character on screen, i'm definitely buying this figure. (plus i dont think there will be 1/6 DoFP Quicksilver anyway):lol

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - Avengers: AoU - Quicksilver figure discussion

Yeah but they probably got a crap ton of money from Under Armour, I know Tony was also wearing a UA shirt

All of them were wearing Under Armour. Some of them such as Thor and Black Widow were wearing it underneath their costumes. But the Under Armour shirts seen in the movie were Quicksilver, Iron Man and Captain America....
