What good is canon if any portion of it can be wiped away?

Take from these movies (or EU) what you will. It could all change.

Disney owns Star Wars and owns the canon attached to it. Unlike the old EU that ran independent from Lucasfilm [and FOX's] ideas, the current canon of television shows, novels and comics completely ties in with the seven films.

I happen to like something and when I do, I dig into it because I want to know everything. I'm sure that's not an odd thing to do. So I spend my free time reading more because i enjoy Star Wars. It doesn't mean I don't travel, play sports, or stop learning different things. You talk about my "spewing over" imaginary things, but do you forget you are on a forum about figures based on imaginary things? If we can't talk about it here, then where can we? You just seem like you can't stand an opinion that differs from yours. So I enjoy all the Star Wars films and not just one trilogy.. Doesn't make me a shut in who doesn't do anything.

I liked McDiarmid throughout too -- but I cannot forgive that "No, no, no!" moment. I just can't.
Me either. I love McDiarmid/The Emperor, but he just laid on the cheese too thickly for my tastes. That scene just makes me cringe in embarrassment. Wish he'd stuck with the ROTJ persona instead.

Yeah Disney has gone through great lengths to ensure there is a consistent canon among all the stories and it's cool to see the characters develop across different mediums. And with Disney's plans for more Star Wars movies, they had to clean it up somehow. This ensures there won't be any issues of contradiction in the future.

What about Jacen and Jaini or whatever? That's gone now, right? Much of the old EU is gone. If you didn't like any of that, you're lucky. But it does prove that nothing's safe.

You're right. I attacked your enthusiasm, which was wrong. I apologize.

Apology accepted. Let's just get back to the discussion of Kylo Ren! :)

Anyone think he'll keep the same saber design in VIII? I was wondering if he would keep the helmet too. They both got pretty thrashed in VII.

I would certainly hope so, or at least I hope he maintains a similar-looking design/aesthetic. Consistency is very key to creating an iconic-looking design, and with the way that Kylo Ren has already been unmasked, the films still need time in establishing his visage so that he actually becomes memorable design-wise to a lot of people.

Totally agree, hope he has a backup helmet though because he left his on that bridge....

Just on Mace Windu...

That Genndy series was badass. Even showed Grevious to be a force to be reckoned with and feared, which Revenge of the Sith and Clone Wars promptly reversed to turn him into a joke.

That was my point: people take what they want and toss aside stuff they don't like or doesn't fit in with their world view. The Star Wars universe is full of contradictions in the way its been presented.

Mace is a bad ass in one series and a fool in another; Grievous is a bad ass in one, goofy in another.

One of the key problems is little boys want everyone to be bad ass, and you just can't have everyone be a bad ass.

I always interpreted that Palpatine never let Mace subdue him until he sensed Anakin entering the building. Then he made him myself seem vulnerable so Anakin would see. And Palpatine never left things to chance. His unique force power was clairvoyance, and he could often see outcomes before they happened, sometimes far in advance.

His quick decimation of the three masters wasn't poor directing. He catches them off guard and quickly overwhelms them. Mace was the only one who really sees it coming. You can tell this when Palpatine launched himself over the desk (which was so awesome), Mace is the only one who takes a defensive stance.

That actually makes sense and I liked it. Great point. My main problem was the idea of leaving things for chance, but it makes sense that he has good clairvoyant skills. Thanks.

About the bad directing bit, I still think it should be better, I agree that sidious would kill them fast, but it was to fast, specially considering that they had already lightened their sabers.

Don't be bringing logic to a fantasy argument :lol

In Rey's vision she sees all of the Knights of Ren and they all seem to be wearing the similar if not the same helmets so perhaps back at Supreme leader Snoke's hideout they will have more. I would like to see more of him with it on though I think Disney will take the "Captain America should spend most of the movie without his helmet on" rule to the extreme with the Star Wars series as well. Shame. It looks really cool.

I also agree about Palpatine. I think he was the best part of the whole prequel trilogy. I found it more interesting a story about how he came to power than how Anakin turned into Vader.
