I had thought about the pencil too, but I suspect that the smooth finish of the teeth will probably make it very difficult to actually have the lead adhere.

I'm hoping that tilting the head downward a bit and posing the figure at an angle will help not make the teeth (or lack of) overly visible.

I was thinking possibly trying a very sharp pointed pencil. Anybody ever try this with success?

NOOOOO. Oh my god, as an artist I am telling you: do NOT do this. A solid white strip of cartoon teeth is 10000x better than the grey mess of lines you'd make by trying to draw on teeth yourself. Even with a .05 lead pencil the line wouldn't be thin enough to fit in the space and make any kind of nice line.

Heed his advice. He's been a member here since April and this is his first post.:goodpost:

Yeah, but a lot of the pics you see here are larger than 1:1 (actual figure) or how she appears in hand. Any amount of detail, in that minuscule a space her teeth occupy would darken that area altogether and appear discolored to the naked, unassisted eye.

It seems to be an over the top complaint, but seriously, it's bizarre that HT released a sculpt with an open mouth that appears to be wearing a mouthguard. For many people photographing these figures is just as much fun as owning them and having them on the shelf, and IMO every photo where you can see her teeth looks goofy.

Considering HT's recurring problems with production sculpts being softer than the prototypes and painted like they've just come back from a six month holiday in the tropics, I don't think these complaints should be just brushed away like that.

Don't get me wrong, I think it looks goofy, but it's something very minor to me. I think overall it's a great looking figure and I'm still looking forward to receiving it. However, if HT apparently didn't want to take the time to make any discernible individual teeth, what compelled them to decide to go with a slightly open mouth expression in the first place where teeth are visible? Seems to make more sense to have just kept the prototype sculpt's closed mouth expression and call it a wrap.

One of those things where if you're not going to bother to do it "right", then don't bother doing it. Right and wrong of course when it comes to personal preference is subjective, but considering this is the first sculpt I've seen at least that just had a mere white painted strip for teeth from HT, I'd consider it "wrong".

I think paint applied with a fine brush would probably work best. Because you wouldn't want just a line there but some very subtle shading too. And you'd probably want to focus more on creating small gaps at the bottom of the teeth than the lines in between.

It may even be possible to use an exacto to create the notches at the bottom, but you'd have to be very damn careful when you did it, and make sure you got the spacing exactly right first.

If you're steady enough to take a brush in there, my respect to you, I wouldn't attempt it in my wildest dreams. You have much more experience with painting sculpts though, Dave. Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong? I suspect that space is going to be awfully hard to get into, even with a very small brush. Eyes with a brush are tough as is, at least in my opinion. It's my least favorite part of painting. That's why I think this fix is going to be tougher than expected; it's not that it's not doable, but the clearance afforded by the lips isn't much, so it's going to require masking regions and avoiding paint slips.

Heck when I paint headsculpts, I actually use very finely sharpened pencils to do the eyes in place of paint with layers of sealant. I feel like I have far more control.

Overemphatizing teeth at this scale could result in a goofy looking mouth (just like that Ripley). Sorta this:

So far this looks a little too toy-like for my collection. It's really got a doll-face and I don't mean that as a compliment.

Hmmmm. I'll have to see it in person first.

Posted this under Finn but will add here too.

Someone on Facebook worked on Finn ....I think this looks much better after removing the clear extensions.

Well, he looks at least less "Shaq" like, in terms of height. Did they say how hard this was to do?
Do the clear extensions simply pop out to allow the foot pegs to go in?

This person did not mention anything. Another person who took the leg extensions off had to boil in water and use pliers to slowly pull them off so it is definitely not easy. Afterwards the ball attachments supplied no longer fit so that person was going to have to look around for replacements or drummel the balls to fit.

Jeez, sounds like it would have been a whole lot easier just to cut the legs with a dremel and shorten them from above. Especially if the legs are going to be hidden by the pants anyway.

Doesn't mean I'm wrong. I saw a train wreck about to happen and had to step in. :p
No, you're right. I don't get people trying to mod that by adding teeth lines. That is ridiculous to me. I seriously doubt HT didn't consider alternatives. Maybe it's not 100% perfect but adding teeth definition with an untrained hand sounds awful.
