I agree with most of your post apart from the ASM part. There were changes but I thought the similar stuff was just too close. Uncle Ben in particular. Why rehash that whole bit? We all know he's going to die even the noobs that know nothing about SM.

The geek going from a nobody to beating up the bully - been done in every movie ....ever.

Don't get me wrong, I actually though it was decent. Garfield I actually much prefer as spidey because of his body type and he did carry the sarcastic/comedy side of spidey better than TM.

But again it just seemed like a set up for something that didn't really need set up.

I sort of disagree with audiences not being smart either. I think gone are the day's of Johnny Rambo blowing crap up. Nolans Batman has proved that I'd say. Even look at Prometheus, which made some nice coin for a R rated sci-fi movie.

Actually just thinking back to the old Batman movie, there was no origin story - Batman just showed up, BAM "I'm Batman" and that was in 1989 !!!!

Prometheus was awful and a huge let down :( So many things wrong with the characters and the creators

I say audiences need things like the origin retold because 80% of the people I talked to about the movie thought it was Spider-Man 4 even after seeing the trailers.

The original Batman did a neat thing with the origin, kept it simple through flashbacks and hints. The problem with that was you never really knew anything about him becoming Batman. Had the original 1989 happened AFTER Begins, it would've worked great cause people knew his origins from previous movies. Although if you do it that way you have to follow the previous director's vision.

To me not every movie needs to retell an origin story if it doesn't affect the reboot. If they redid Transformers and Megatron showed up, people would be confused as to why all the characters look different and why dead characters are back. ASM is one of those movies that needed it because of the amount of differences to Sam Raimi's version.

Maybe, but people still flocked to see it. I actually enjoyed it but I stayed away from all the material so I went in fresh. It was better that way.

I agree for this particular scenario in ASM some sort of dumbed down rubbish was needed to say "Hey this aint the same dude, well actually it is but..." I'm just not sure it was different enough though.

That's kind of my point. He's just Batman, we know he's Batman, we all paid to see Batman, we don't need to waste time every 10 minutes telling us how Batman became Batman - He's.Just.Batman. :rotfl

1989 Batman - kids were going freakin nuts , collecting cards, going to school in my Batman coat with a Batman lunchbox. I don't think I ever stopped to say " I wonder how Batman started off?" :slap

Anyway , I'll probably buy this figure..... :rotfl

Its so much funnier that he continued to explain himself and refute my comment.

Because you didn't spell Cannon right :pfft:

I see a lot of folk yammering on about the Spidey re-boot like it's 100th time it's happened

Get real folk, it's the first re-boot, Batman had the exact same thing happen and i don't see anywhere near as much complaining

Now i know people will say that the original Bat-franchise was much longer ago, but i think it's also worth pointing out that it's a good example of how poor a franchise can get if it's allowed to continue with no re-invigoration. Forever and Batman and Robin were terrible

The second example would be Superman, number 3 n 4 and then Returns, jeez.

Spiderman 3 was terrible, some people seem to think that Hollywood and the Studio (!) are suckering folk into spending their money watching the origin again, yet those same people wanted a franchise to continue that had third film pressured by the Studio (!) to include characters that the director didn't even want. Which ultimately resulted in a convoluted mess of a movie

Ultimately, you have to accept that fact that these films aren't just made for fanboys, as shocking as it may be. It's a business that needs generate money and therefore attract new audiences, younger audiences, kids who will want all the toys

I mean, what kind of adult is gonna buy the toys, right?

:goodpost: :exactly: :goodpost:

Any one of the dozens and dozens and literally DOZENS of interesting Spider stories that embellish his decades-long run as one of the most popular superheroes ever, that's what.

Are you seriously saying that the only interesting things about Spidey are his origin and the Goblin throwing Gwen off a bridge...? Surely you cannot be saying that.

We have seen Batman's origins AT LEAST twice on fim now, and there's no reason to think we wont be looking at it again sometime soon.

TWICE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH.

God, its like you people *want* to watch the same stuff over and over, never branching out. And don't get me started on Lex Luthor. I love Lex but he's had enough screen time; as if Superman has only one villain.

This is only the second time we've seen Spider-man's and not once have we seen Gwen Stacey die on film.

These are movies for all audiences, so naturally they do the well known and most loved stories!

Doesn't really make sense of HT not to have done updated pics with the full revealed hs shown, afterall the only pics casual customers will see when choosing to order is the official ones on whichever retailer they go for.

So by that they've only got one (blurred) pic of the headsculpt to go by. And with the price it'd make more sense to show everything the figure comes with to maximise sales :dunno

This is also the second time we've seen Captain Americas and yet no freaking out about that

Sony rushed a re-boot because they were about to lose the rights to their cash cow. It was only ever about the money.
$ONY, baby! :lol

Spiderman 3 was terrible

Nah, but it was on par with Spider-Man 4: Extreme Sports Ultimates Spidey vs. Goomba-Man. :wink1:

It's HT. Makes sense to me. I don't think they updated the official pics for Superman, R&B Spidey, Bruce Lee, & maybe others that don't immediately come to mind right now.

Like those figures I mentioned, I think HT might tweak this figure for the better as well.

I don't mean tweking though i mean a key part of it thats included isn't properly shown in their pics, which is their primary advertisment of the product.

The HS can be a major draw for sales, looking at the current pics it's easy to miss it, that can lead some to think it's not even included and thus pass on the figure for that reason, all because they didn't properly advertise the head. It's possible.

I agree. I mean they updated pics for Thor and Loki so why not show updated pics of the AG Peter Parker sculpt? Doesn't make sense

I feel like your expectations are unrealistic. You're asking to change a significant part of Spider-Man's life, people flipped their heads when they changed the reason why he wanted to become Spider-Man in the first place.

What? How are "I'd like to see the next movie address something besides Spidey's origin, which has now had TWO initerations inside ten years" and "I want to change a significant part of Spidey's life!" equivalent statements?

I don't want to "make significant changes to his life." I'd just like to see more OF it. This character has decades-worth of stuff going on. We'll never see it, because we'll never get past his girlfriends before we reboot the series AGAIN and start from scratch.

Bring on Gwen's death and the intro to MJ.

I am more than certain that you will get your wish.

You know, I am female and even I have had enough of this extreme interest in Peter's love-life. Perhaps the main thing fueling this on the studio's part is that it is much CHEAPER to film a touching chit-chat out by the trash-cans between Peter and MJ [yes, actually happened] than a supervillian throw-down.

That's ok. I can - and will - go do something else. Thankfully other interesting franchises exist.

Perhaps it isn't the finished sculpt that we've seen :dunno

For comparison. Enterbay's 'Kobe Bryant' figure is already released, & has been for a little bit now, & that figure still doesn't seem to have official product pics. A pic of the NBA logo & the box is what they show to sell a $180 figure :cuckoo: :lol

General reply: if some of you enjoy a rehash of a character's origins with every new film released, good for you because the studios certainly have you in mind. To me, origin rehash after rehash after rehash wastes valuable screen time that we could use to do something, I dont know.... something INTERESTING?

Are people so worthlessly LAZY nowdays that we can't have people see a movie and go to themself, "You know, Character X was cool! I want to know more about him....yeah. I'm going to go rent movie #1 in the franchise. Great idea!" Or go all hog-wild and go read some comic books about the character....??!! Guess those things are out nowadays.

I am grateful that Iron Man, Captain America and Thor are not being put through this wringer with every film they're in. Since I am tired of Spidey being put through it [not to mention the franchise is not NEARLY old enough to need a reboot], I'll keep passing as long as they keep dredging up Uncle Ben or whatever.

Safe money says the next Spidey film is going to deal with not only that, but Gwen getting thrown off the bridge by Norman Osborn. *headdesk*

Maybe I just forgot or something, but I don't remember seeing Gwen getting thrown off the bridge by Norman Osborn in any past Spidey movies before..

The comics, sure.. animated TV show, probably, I can't remember, but if I'm not mistaken ASM is the first time Gwen Stacy is on the big screen and she didn't get thrown off a bridge there..

^ She was also a blink and you'll miss her waste of a character in SM3 :lol

ASM may have had the origin of his powers and Uncle Ben death but aside from that it had very little akin to the Raimi ones, some people see them as the same when they're actally completely different and act as if this is the sixth origin film done. Batman has had his origin done twice already (parents getting shot) and will probably have a third along soonish :lol

BB felt more like a Batman movie to me than the latters. His suit was more menacing and Gotham felt like Gotham not just any random US City. IMO St Nolan got a bit up his own ass with political and societal messages as he progressed.

Good films, that just seemed to move too far away from the Batman norms i know and love.

^ just my 2 pence :peace
