Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

That could be done very easily with some fishing line. If you are displaying the figure in a detolf, just string the line in two loops. One to support the chest at the desired level and one to support the legs.
Simple. And will cost pennies to implement.

Interesting idea.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

You know I had a wild idea cross my mind a few times since I got my first Ironman (MKIV). What if I could modify one of my MK's with magenets. Then secure magnets on both the top and bottom of my display cabinet. Would I be able to balance Ironman somehow between them. Maybe then he could float around and then he'd really be flying! In my mind this works but who knows if its even possible. Sounds good though right?

:exactly: I've done this a few times myself actually. In fact it is how the falcon from my Falconer Predator is set up. A lot smaller than an Iron Man figure, but the same concept.

You'd need HUGE magnets to get any sort of distance on the field. If I am remembering correctly the size of the magnetic field is directly related to the size of the magnet. So while a small rare earth magnet might have a very strong magnetic field the size of that field isn't very big.

… I think I'm remembering that right.

So you'd need huge and dangerous magnets to do it and if you didn't get it just right and got too close to the suspending magnets it would just slam the figure into the top or bottom of the cabinet with plenty enough force to destroy it. You also would need to be super careful around the cabinet with anything ferros or electronic if the field on the magnets was large enough to suspend a fairly heavy object several inches above it's surface.

Yes. That sounds totally plausible. Please make it so.

And post pics. Or it didn't happen.

Not really do-able in the real world.
What you could do if you had the space was put a large neodymium magnet in the torso of the figure somewhere and have a large electomagnet mounted ahead of it. There would have to be a wire or a piece of string attaching IM to a mounting point by the feet(In the oppposite direction of the magnet). When you turned on the electromagnet, it would pull IM towards it and the wire would stop him, effectively suspending the figure in the air, tethered to the ground only by the thing wire.
I saw this done at a model show in Kentucky once for a Star Wars Republic Star Destroyer model kit. There was only one little piece of fishing wire at the rear of the model, and the electromagnet kept the thing suspended.
I suspect that Hot Toys figures might be too heavy though.
And this setup would not fit in a detolf.

That would be f'ing awesome! Like Hulk smashed Iron man:lol Good points though. Researching electromagnets now and it seems more of a possibility than with regular magenets. Check out this link,https://hacknmod.com/hack/how-to-controlled-levitation-using-magnets-microcontrollers/,there are some cool magnetic levitation vids on there.Dont know if Im ambitious enough to pursue this but It would be kickass on display.

Hmmm another interesting idea. Im thinking he might be too heavy too. Oh well a boy can dream can't he:monkey2 Will probably throw up some tape and fishing line and call it a day.

If you are displaying it on the top shelf of a detolf, you could even screw in eyelet screws on the top into the wood. They could be used to tie the fishing line to.
On the top shelf of my detolf all i have is a custom Reeve, and a Routh superman. It occurs to me i could get rid of the stands and the glass shelf and have them both hanging from the underside...

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

Just pre ordered one. This is going to be my first 1/6th figure. I have a quick question though. Now I know this isn't a toy to be played with and I plan on displaying it with the special edition WM I'm planning on buying but how sturdy are these things. I've heard that they are pretty fragile, I just want to confirm or not.

I usually get mine and place on the stand right out the box. I never play with mine. I'm not even sure what that would look like. :rotfl But I've never had a problem with them when they never get touched.

Maybe someone who is a little more active with their figures can give you some additional insight.

I play with all my 1/6 figures all the time. They are not fragile.

Be careful changing out the armor pieces. I broke one of mine on my Avengers Mark VI. So yeah, they are somewhat fragile.
