Just scored an order for this figure from BBTS. :yess:
Someone must have canceled because they have been sold out.

Now I need to secure the BD Promo version. Bring it! :rock

The arguement between the new pieces being added is also balanced out with the fact that it is MISSING a lot of pieces the orignal has. Even with the new parts, it still has less than the orignal. The repulsor hand also isn't really a "new" part anymore because it's being included in the original Mark VII.

Of course it has that base so who knows but I think it will hit the $250 price tag or above.

new pieces = new mold

that's where the majority of any cost will be reflected to the consumer. its not that is has more or less pieces, its that a specific mold had to be created just for that one or two new parts.

re-purposing old parts that have already seen profit is selling at cost to make and deliver product, there is no money lost in the deal, just what it costs to produce. making entire new molds that has yet to have any profit associated with those pieces is recouping expenses out for the production of those molds plus materials used.

its not so much "total piece count" that is the cost reflected to the consumer, but the total production and manufacturing process to get to that final product as a whole.

Piece size, at least based on the little layman's research I have done into tooling injection molds, is a factor as well. Though it is always more cost efficient to include multiple pieces in a single mold if possible from what I understand. Which is why companies like Mattel and Hasbro will often make seeming weird material choices (such as casting a sword in a softer rubbery plastic when they normally would do it in ABS) because they have to run parts A-D all in the same material and part B needs to be made from material X.

The base, which if I'm not mistaken is the only new part, that the battle damaged version comes with also probably is made from vinyl which I think is a fair bit cheaper to tool molds for than injection plastic.

everything is accounted for when dealing with what needs to be charged (including employee salaries), its a sum of all parts. but a brand new mold regardless of materials used is always going to cost more then simple reissue especially on "limited" runs. this is also why limited runs of things tend to cost more, they have to make back the investment with the numbers they are producing. its why a company like hasbro who produces tens of thousands of product can offer "better value" for you dollar then a company like Hot toys can. the majority of this cost is new tooling.

its a race to sell to recoup costs with the numbers you are making.

as far as what its costing Ht to produce this guy who knows. there is too much to account for to break it down in a guess .

So, if I were to buy my first and only Iron Man, would this be the one to buy?

I'm basically interested in a "definitive" version. I prefer the classic red and gold and the circular chest arc reactor. Is this the one I should gun for or is there a better one coming along, or an older one that's just as good?

Not interested in Power Poses, Die Cast, variant suits, etc. I just want one great Hot Toys Iron Man figure to represent the character in my collection. I've only collected Batman, Terminator, Robocop, Spider-Man etc. but I feel like I should have Stark in there somewhere as I'm getting hyped up for Iron Man 3.

Yes, I would say this is indeed the one to get. Its simply beautiful and fully loaded with extras while still holding the classic comic book image.

Personally nothing comes close to the Mark IV for me. I'll be waiting on getting an Iron Man until that one's re-released in the die-cast line with the ABS codpiece, so I don't have to worry about fading. The VII's really nice, too, but IV just resonates with me as the design most true to my memory of the comics.

Did anyone else notice this guy wasn't listed in the shipping in 30 days section of the most recent newsletter. Please don't say this has been delayed yet again. :(

The Avengers - Mark 7 release on May 2013 according to Hot Toys Japan.

My guess, SSC won't get it till the end of May to maybe June now. Same with Hulk.

Wishful thinking. Since the box was revealed, we know its coming. I too, think late May before we start seeing any. Hulk will probably be late July. :(

I hear you. Mk IV is probably the best representation of film/comic in the series so far.

I really like it.

The problem I have with the IV is while it makes a great figure (without doubt the best Red & Gold version HT have done) it had sod all screen time, I mean not even one proper action scene just the little tussle with Rhodey in the mrk II

Definitely feel now that the mrk IV is best displayed setup with the Gantry :)

I don't particularly fuss myself with screen accurate scenes, nor the amount of screen time. As long as it looks good.... :)

Loki wasn't listed either but I'm sure that he will be released by SS in that time since he's been released in the oriental market. I just think they don't list them to be on the safe side in the event that they are pushed.
