Wow, nice breakdown there! Everything from the Mk 45 onwards is definitely looking more cartoonish for some reason.
And that Mk 43 is looking a lot cooler than I remember too. I know it's probably not much of a favorite here, but I am starting to like its unique design more and more.
Simple explanation is that more and more effects companies are being used on each movie, and all the really good looking armors you remember were most likely done by ILM or Weta, up through the 43 and Hulkbuster in Ultron, then it becomes a real grab bag of VFX houses, even within any one film.
Weta did the whole IM3 final battle, while Scanline, Trixter, and Luma did some of the earlier Mk 42 shots, which looked fine.
Method Studios did the noticeably off Mark 45 in AoU, that was their first time doing an armor.
ILM did do the CW airport battle, and 46 doesn't look up to their standards imo. They did have to digitally replace basically everything in that scene, so perhaps they couldn't give it the time deserved- everything about CW seems crazy rushed anyway (and ILM didn't do a single other scene featuring the 46 or 47). Method did the silo sequence, they got a bit better there and the darkness helps the shaders not look too computery, but not wild about the animation.
The Mk 50 which looks pretty cartoon in earlier scenes was Framestore (NYC battle) and Cinesite (on the ship with Maw). The 50 looks probably the best in the Titan battle, and that whole thing was done by Weta.
Not all the Endgame VFX breakdowns are out yet, but as far as the 85, Weta did most of the final battle, with ILM handling at least the Captain Marvel sequence. Not sure who did the 2012 Stark tower 85 shots yet (Cinesite did the lobby sequence, Lola and DNEG did Captain v Captain).

How did you enhance the Iron Man, War Machine and Iron Patriot models?
The suits evolve with each and every film. No one knows these suits as well as Bruce Holcomb, who was built or touched just about every Iron Man and War Machine suit over the last ten years. For Iron Mark 85, based off the great art, we got from the team at Marvel, we tried to combine the bleeding edge and nanotech feel of the suit from INFINITY WAR, with a little more of the traditional rigid suit feel from CIVIL WAR. We wanted to keep the nanotech that brings the suit on and off, but try to do it in a way that made it feel a bit more rigid/mechanical. This was true for the Gauntlet as well. It happens quickly, but if you watch carefully, you will see the nano / liquid metal forming the framework and individual panel pieces that then lock into place. This was done to help sell a more physical / less magical feel for the suits. We also introduced some subtle patterning to the materials on the suit to give it some visual interest.
Yeah there was definitely something a bit too elastic looking and cartoonish about the suit in IW. Glad they made it more solid again for the next movie.

There's no pink panty issue with the first release, but if you can swing it definitely go the diecast route. The dimensions, detailing and features are all vast improvements.

Strictly observing each armor, the Mark V is not a full movie hero suit like the Mark 46 but the build is unique and a better looking armor on display because of the build design. If I had other iron men and other main movie Marks then definitely would lead me to get the Mark V. The Mark V has a solid build design and you should not worry about it breaking.
If you are looking to have a representation of Iron Man in your collection and have no other Iron Man Mark suits, then the 46 is a awesome armor and compared to the other hero armors it is definitely up there as one of the most admired

I would take Mk V, i wanted the civil war mk 46 but i think i would be ok for now for mk 46 concept art which is still available at cheaper price.
Too bad mk 46 concept art does not provide headsculpt like the mk46.
By the way i just got the mk v as well too!! Couldnt wait until it comes nxt week (this hobby is not cheap lol).

Yeah I would probably opt for the Mark 5 as well. If you need another all-red armor there's always the Mark 50, but something like the 5 is a lot more unique and would probably stand out more in the collection.
