Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

You had to have meant OT fans prefer RO right? ;)

I'm sorry I derailed the thread!

Just to derail and elaborate more, I'm an OT fan all the way and have been since dragged to a drive-in in 1978 as a young child to see the original then getting tons of the figures and seeing the rest in theaters first run. I'm definitely not a young SE/PT person. Like some above, there are parts of the PT that I like (Obi Wan and Anakin's relationship and duel) but most of it is dreck. I prefer the idea of nameless/faceless spies that saved the rebels and got the plans as opposed to the rag tag group of stereotypes and hollow characters. As for spin offs, I'm not really a spin off person and haven't enjoyed them in any medium (TV, comics, movies). If I had to choose a type of spin off, I'd prefer something separate and independent that can stand on its own as opposed to having a crutch on other films. I didn't NEED to see or like Diff'rent Strokes to enjoy/love Facts of Life but to love RO it relies heavily on the OT. Make a Grand Admiral Thrawn film away from the main universe with all new characters and settings. How about an Imperial Academy film with some believing in the Empire and others breaking away. How about a spin off of the ashes of the Empire following ROTJ that doesn't need to try to reinvent/rewrite characters to fit the existing narratives of our real world and create it's own in the SW world.

Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing. :duff Fascinating to read an opposing opinion on RO from a fan who goes back as far as I do. Obviously I like RO as both a lead in to ANH *and* as a stand-alone war movie but hey "Diff'rent Strokes" right? :D One of the many things about the movie that I did like is that in kind of an interesting way Rogue One actually *did* feature anonymous heroes in that no one who survived the ordeal really knew who did steal the plans. It really was just "spies" for all anyone on both sides knew.

I say that because how many people actually paid attention to Jyn and everyone boarding the stolen Imperial Shuttle. Then when a communications officer demanded to know their identities all anyone in the control room heard was Bodhi (a voice none of them were familiar with) saying "Rogue One. Rogue One, pulling away." Then they get news of an incursion on Scariff, send the entire fleet but again no one up in space hears anyone's voice but Bodhi's again. "This is Rogue One, we have the plans, we're sending the plans," and so on.

Literally no one in the Rebellion knows just what part Jyn played and whether she played a part at all. Same with Cassian and everyone else. Textbook examples of anonymous unsung heroes. I love that. You? Or did so much fall flat for you that it doesn't matter at this point, lol.

Most of it fell flat to me due to too much fan service but the anonymous/nameless part of my post was even inclusive of the audience. I'm the type that doesn't necessarily need to know how I got somewhere, just that I had a good time getting there and sometimes there are blank areas that add intrigue and mystery and this movie shattered that.

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Oh yes I get that you meant spies that were anonymous to us, not other players on screen, but I just thought that since they *were* telling that story it was pretty cool how even "in universe" they kept the unsung hero aspect. I used to think "why would Dodonna only give credit to Leia for getting the plans" when in actuality no one in the Rebellion would really have any idea who to give credit *to.* Anyway I thought that was pretty clever.

My default though is pretty much always the same as yours. Let certain mysteries remain mysteries. I don't need a movie spelling out the situation with the bounty hunter on Ord Mandelll, showing Luke bullseyeing womprats back home (they're not much bigger than two meters you know,) or seeing just how many Bothans had to die to bring news of the Emperor's arrival in ROTJ. And I didn't think I wanted to see how the original DS plans were stolen until seeing how amazingly (IMO) they ended up telling that particular tale.

They executed that narrative about as well as HT handled this new Anakin sculpt. :D

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Thank god we don't all have the same opinions as this place would be a dull place. Always fun reading even posts I disagree with, or to the degrees in which they're expressed, as often there are elements even I agree with.

:exactly:

Even though I quite liked R1 myself and felt it was a perfect segue into ANH, I can see why some would feel it was nothing but a cash grab and didn't feel like a "Star Wars" film per se; that they felt simply throw in Vader and a CGI Leia and viola, it's SW.

I would agree that it certainly didn't feel like an actual episode film to me, but I didn't go into it expecting it to, because it's not.

Like Khev mentioned, in a way, the characters of R1 are indeed anonymous because nobody in the Galaxy really knew who they were. For myself, right when you start watching ANH, you sort of forget about them even as the viewer. The consummate example of unsung heroes, indeed.

Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Regardless of our differing opinions on each movie, I think we can all agree that this figure is spectacular. No matter what our opinion of the character may be, or the actor who played him, or the movie it represents, this figure has been executed beautifully.

I'm an OT fan from the original days. I've seen every movie in the theater the year it came out. My favorite movie is and always will be Empire for many reasons but particularly because Lucas didn't direct it or write the screen play.

I think that's what was wrong, IMO, with the PT. Lucas created those stories in a vacuum. It wasn't a collaborative effort as far as story and directing.

I liked elements of those movies, Palpatine, the SITH Lords Maul and Dooku, Obi Wan, but for the most part it was Bantha Poo Doo. Even though I liked them when they first came out. I think George kept us so starved for Star Wars for so long that I , like many others, swallowed whatever he gave us.

I didn't like TFA as much as I'd hoped. For one the sound was too quiet. Every theater I tried to watch it in sounded terrible. And these were good theaters! The blaster fire and explosions were barely above a whisper. It didn't feel like a Star Wars movie or what I'm used to a Star Wars movie sounding like. If George was Executive producer on those he would have pulled them from the theater, remixed the sound, and sent it back out with guns blazing!

The second reason was the rehashed story line. Another Death Star? Really?!!! The actors were great and the moments definitely felt like a Star Wars movie but the material they had to work with was cringe worthy in a lot of spots.
There were some things I did like. I loved the fact that it had the original cast in it. Back together in the big screen. Han and Chewy, the Princess, the Millennium Falcon. Even seeing Luke again.

I thought Rogue One was a better movie than TFA but it was still missing something. Again, another movie with a Death Star in it but I liked how they showed a different point of view of the Death Star this time. Being on the ground when that thing unleashes its power makes it seem a lot more real. The OT moments in that movie, Tarkin, Vader, and Leia, put it over the top.

Sorry for the rant. It wasn't meant to be long winded but... too late.

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

To me (yes opinion, lest I be attacked) it felt more like a soulless cash in with fan **** winks and nods to really reinforce that yes, this is truly a Star Wars film and not a SyFy Original adaptation of The Dirty Dozen or Seven Samurai in space. I felt the acting was overdone, characters bland and the plot hollow with bad elements (really, a mind reading octopus?) and was nothing more than a cash grab which also has me soured on the idea of other spin offs. To me it felt nothing like a Star Wars film (which was a big selling point and success to others who wanted something "fresh"). The figures look great and are spot on, I just have no interest in them for my collection.

Respect...
I disagree but well put and respectful...

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Rogue One was great. So was The Force Awakens. Both captured the essence of Star Wars, in my eyes.

I think the films are good enough that I hope they ignore "some" of the senseless nitpicking and keep simply trying to make even better films.

Not sure why they want to pursue a Rogue Two movie though, but whatever.

We've already seen Rogue Two:

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Would "Rogue Two" depict the many Bothans who brought the Rebels the information on the second DS for RotJ I presume?

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Interesting to read people's perspectives but just to throw my hat in the ring.....
I too am old enough to have seen the OT in the cinema and I too loved rogue one. I enjoyed it because it. Felt like the ot but there were a couple too many winks in it and some elements bemused me - mind reading slug/octopus?

The ot also ended up as a mixed bag- some great concepts and some rubbish stuff. Also I wanted someone that gelled with what I had imagined from the glimpses that we had been given in the ot and the thrawn trilogy (which I loved).
Many have said that the biggest flaw was Lucas being unrestrained and I concur. Some ideas just needed to be challenged and hey weren't.

On the subject of ianakin this figure looks awesome and he is definitely the rots look is brilliant even if the story didn't explain his fall sufficiently. . I can't wait to get my hands on this figure.

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Give. Me. Commander Cody.

I'd buy him. Probably the only Hot Toys clone I'd get, unless they made that cool mustard colored commander that killed that blue jedi chick. I always liked how they looked with the visors, skirt dusters and dual pistols. They were like futuristic looking Sandtroopers or something.

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Whoever sculpted Anakin and the new Tom Holland needs to do all future SW figures.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Hot Toys could easily scrap the current Anakin headsculpt and "update" it with some exposed teeth. Everyone seems to like when they do that!
