They might have reshot the scene to make it a bit more frightening and intense (or perhaps included the use of his lightsaber instead of just force powers), but I'd be very surprised if there wasn't some kind of Vader vs rebel sequence at the end. Since the movie clearly seems to be building to that with all the little Vader teases throughout. And since it makes no sense to bring him into the movie just to have him watch all the action helplessly from his Star Destroyer at the end.

It must have been difficult how the producers were hamstrung by Vader being not so agile in Ep. 4 considering they were already stretching how far the lightsaber look has come since then. But it's still cool how they managed to pull off Vader's tour de force (pun intended) in that scene.

Just got back from seeing R1.
A bit confused as it appears R1 Vader had his tunic over his shoulder armor unlike the Hot Toys figure also, Vader looked less shiny in the movie and more like ANH to me. I think Hot Toys got misleading info and images of Vader from the movie and the HT R1 Vader reflects an earlier prototype of the costume.
The only two things I noticed that was really different from ANH was the red lenses and both tusks were silver but I didn't notice them being damaged at the end. Anyways, seeing R1 made me love my ANH version even more! :vader

My sentiments as well. The R1 Vader figure to me looks the most like him in the film when he was on Mustafar talking to Krennic. In his later scenes, it seemed like it got more into ANH territory. Part of the reason why I think the ANH Vader figure can be passed off as essentially also being R1 Vader, more so than the R1 Vader figure can be passed off as also being ANH Vader.

I found a few screen grabs on the net and saw it again yesterday. He definitely has the red lenses and in his scenes it looks to me like his tunic is over the armor.

The tunic was indeed over the shoulder armor in each of his scenes. I do remember this distinctly without having to go back and look.

I'll keep my sideshow dx until ht releases a rotj vader and Jedi luke I honestly don't see it being that far off. While I do like the r1 vader I'll pass and just wait for what I really want.

Same. I like the Sideshow version and I'm not buying every other Vader that gets made. Subtle changes don't bother me, tunic under, tunic over, whatever, I don't need a figure every time.

ROTJ Vader and Jedi Luke will be awesome to see.

I think that bright red is a reflection from around and behind Krennic. When he turns the red shifts and fades and the lenses look more black/reddish tint like ANH. I don't think they are actually red. There are HD cam copies (telesync) out there on the internet that aren't too bad. I've swatched certain scenes a few times and like I said, his lenses look no different than ANH version.

That's what I was getting at, pretty nice match to my eyes to ANH.

Vader has had several subtle armor changes throughout the SW films. At any point, I don't think the color of the lenses was ever one of them. Not enough to really notice at least and because of that, not be overly concerned about in 1/6 scale.

Some seem to think and have said in posts that the lenses in the movie & on the R1 version are much more red than ANH, but I don't think they are in the movie, like you seem to agree. So if the Rogue One version does have lenses that are more red, then I think it's another mistake by HT along with the inner robe under the armor. From what I've seen I definitely prefer the ANH over the RO... Except for the gloves of course :lol

According to early reviews the tunic can be put over the armor with relative ease to match his look in the final scene. The lenses seem to be red in bright lighting which again, matches the movie, so no mistake made there imo. The only thing I miss is some weathering from the buttons of the chest panel.

Correction: to match ALL his scenes in RO.

Well... kinda but not really.
I mean he has the tunic under the armor on EVERY R1 promo pic ever.

Which makes me suspicious of the scenes especially after the CGI "neck fixing" they did after the first reveal of the chocking scene. The tunic might be cgi'd because they forgot the thing until post-production. That would also explain why hot toys released the figure with the tunic under the armor.

I don't know, his moves didn't look that inconsistent to me with what we see in ANH. People like to ridicule the lightsaber battle in that movie, but that fight still gets pretty fierce and intense at times. It's only in comparison to the frenetic battles in the prequels that it seems a bit tame.

And of course ANH Vader is also the one who angrily throws a rebel into a wall after breaking his neck with one hand.

The scene in the top photo was never in R1. For all of his scenes in R1, the tunic was over the shoulder armor.

As you mentioned though, HT was probably given early costume photos that showed it under, which is what the figure potentially reflects. Final film accuracy? Tunic over. All scenes.

My sentiments as well. I don't think he did more than what he felt was necessary in that duel. And in ESB, I like to think that when he dueled Luke at Cloud City, he was "taking it easy" on him so to speak, knowing he was his son. He wasn't attempting to go for any kill strikes, just do enough to keep Luke away from him. Sort of like when you simply hold someone's head and keep them more than arm's distance away from you while they swing wildly and miss. Explains the lackadaisical one handed saber combat on his part to me.

This looks like a really nice figure. If I had the money and room I'd definitely pick this up. I still think the ANH one is the best to date.
