To each their own of course, but I think the value of the RO Vader will rise and fall with the perceived status of Rogue One in the coming years. Just as The Force Awakens has fallen somewhat from its stratospheric fan status of late 2015/early 2016, so too will Rogue One be subject to critical revision in the coming year. And so will its depiction of Vader. He'll eventually be known as the 'fan service re-shoots' Vader. ;)

The status of ANH Star Wars is unquestioned, so I really think HT ANH Vader will be the 1/6 Vader to own. :)

Small thing you're missing though, rogue one was actually good...

... except to those of us who are bothered by the crappy gloves, small chestbox, widely spaced belt boxes, cheap looking tunic, heavy-handed weathering on the helmet, and worthless electronics that we're paying a lot more money for. ;)

No doubt that Vader's ANH look is the best, but you have to do an awful lot of modification to the existing figure to get there. While the RO Vader not only has as much potential to make a good ANH Vader, but also gives you a pretty cool looking Vader right out of the box.

I like the anh Vader out of the box. I am not as worried about every little detail of the outfit but I can see how some are bothered by it. The gloves are the only thing I would change. I like the weathering on the helmet. I think the rogue one Vader looks good also but would change the diaper pad. Other than that I think both Vader a are great. Depends on a look people prefer

Does anyone have a photo or video of the Rogue One Vader's gloves on the ANH? Last I read was that they were tight fitting, I was just curious to how it looked. Considering getting the gloves parted out for the swap.

Yep I'm in the same boat. Come on guys post a pic!

Hi, This is my first post. The gloves are pretty tight on the arms since there is alot of fabric under. It still look awsome once u gently force it in. defintely an improvement to me.

cheers

Was his scene what the re-shoots were for?

Although I'd wager Disney/Lucasfilm won't be revealing the truth any time soon, there's talk that the final 'Vader goes nuts' scene in RO was one of the re-shoot sequences, after the bigwigs felt that either A) there wasn't enough Vader, and/or B) the downbeat ending warranted some extra Original Trilogy callbacks to generate more of a 'Star Wars' vibe. Indeed, the fact that effectively a 2nd director (Tony Gilroy) was brought onto the film suggests some major surgery was done, with most commentators suggesting the third act underwent significant restructuring.

Given that removing the Vader scenes from the final cut of RO would have absolutely no impact upon the film's narrative at all, it's likely that they were part of the re-shoots. As such, I'd suggest RO Vader is destined to be forever tainted as 'fan service Vader' - a concession to marketing rather than any legitimate, warranted addition of the character to the film.

They might have reshot the scene to make it a bit more frightening and intense (or perhaps included the use of his lightsaber instead of just force powers), but I'd be very surprised if there wasn't some kind of Vader vs rebel sequence at the end. Since the movie clearly seems to be building to that with all the little Vader teases throughout. And since it makes no sense to bring him into the movie just to have him watch all the action helplessly from his Star Destroyer at the end.

Thanks kvu, I also suspect that the pegs fit okay in the arms too?

Agreed with this. Plus Making Star Wars reported quite a while back that he was going to have an action sequence in the film involving his light saber.

Just got back from seeing R1.
A bit confused as it appears R1 Vader had his tunic over his shoulder armor unlike the Hot Toys figure also, Vader looked less shiny in the movie and more like ANH to me. I think Hot Toys got misleading info and images of Vader from the movie and the HT R1 Vader reflects an earlier prototype of the costume.
The only two things I noticed that was really different from ANH was the red lenses and both tusks were silver but I didn't notice them being damaged at the end. Anyways, seeing R1 made me love my ANH version even more! :vader

Just saw the movie too, vader's scenes were cool. Movie I thought was better than episode 7 but still kinda meh.

Only way they could sell you another one. Something that gets in-between ANH and ESB styles they know people will grab.

I found a few screen grabs on the net and saw it again yesterday. He definitely has the red lenses and in his scenes it looks to me like his tunic is over the armor.
