Right. A movie based on the Nazis and released just after Vietnam, a crooked Presidential resignation and in "the" decade of serial killers and a murder rate that had doubled in something like a decade. The darkness outside the theater was the reason the movie resonated.

That makes all the difference.

I would argue the real world is a far more dark place now post-911. We had serial killers, you have kids that come to school with semi-automatics.

But I actually meant the fans. Back then, Superman was taken as just simple entertainment. Now, it's serious, and high "drama". You get "a film" like BvS out of what was once just a school yard "who-would-win" debate.

The fans have evolved into twisted possessive things. The evolution from Romero's Joker to Ledger's Joker is a nice measure of "The Fan"-base. Those kids with the semi-automatics again.

Man, I'm getting tired of hearing about people's paralyzing anxieties and night terrors regarding being exposed to spoilers. They should make a horror movie where Spoilers are the evil force hunting some young people.

Ah, so THAT'S why Hayden was edited in as Anakin's force ghost in the re-edited version of RotJ. He really did die when he still looked like that.
