Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

I hope they finally make a Plo Koon with his yellow saber this time and not the SS blue version.

Interestingly, I'd say at least 95% (or more) photos of Plo Koon online (toys, movie, fan art, video game, merchandising) show a blue single saber if they don't show the green double. The only examples I can spot of yellow are fan art and a single video game screenshot. Wikia notes all three saber colors, but none of them include any movie as reference.

So this doesn't appear to have anything to do with Sideshow…

I've been looking for an excuse to make a yellow CCFL saber, but almost every character uses either Blue or Red, with a few green and one (Mace Windu) stand-out using Purple.

HT acquiring SW licence is different from any other license they have. They literally can pump figure after figure Main / secondary / Thirdly / background characters. Category figures: Jedi, Military, Aliens etc. the list goes on and on and on……and then new movies….on and on and on

Not sure if HT will reevaluate their pricing structure as I’m pretty sure nobody will be able to keep up at $200 + a figure.

Star Wars is my first collecting love but I think I will stay as far away as possible. I don’t want my display filled with Star wars. I want my display filled with representations of movies I love.

For example I have SS Boba Fett but passed on IG-88 and Bossk

I think that's the key. People will most likely shell out that much and beyond for the primary figures. But how many would pay that much for Greedo, or even Piett? HT have been testing the waters with secondary characters like Coulson, but you can see how cautious they are in how long they hold off in making them (like they held of on John Blake and Gordon). I'm thinking we'll see the primary cast in their most popular iterations first, which will take several years to get through, before we start seeing some of the secondary characters. And by that time, barebone figures will be $300!

I'm in for any Han they make and maybe Chewie and Vader (since I skipped Sideshow's ESB Vader), but that's probably it.

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

There's no way Hot Toys won't charge at least $250, maybe $300, for the main characters.

Sideshow is charging $250 for the Darth Vader Deluxe. Depending on when it comes out and what it comes with, you can add at least another $100, maybe $150, hell, make it $200, for the Hot Toys version. And people will pay it.

Same with Han, Luke, Chewie, Boba Fett and all the rest. Can you imagine how much a Boba Fett with diecast armor would run? We'll be lucky if we get a Stormtrooper for less than $225, a far, far cry from Sideshow's $90.

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

A huge unknown factor is how much did they have or bid to get the license. They didn't give it to HT because they like them, especially considering they had get it from Medicom.

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

Well, if Optimus Prime is any example (alluding more to license fees than build complexity), these will be pricey.

Example isn't relative since SS wouldn't release Stormtrooper today for $90. Fett was $175, Vader $250, Hoth Luke / Han $200. SS is reaching HT type pricing so either option will be expensive one more so than the other. HT will likely roll out a standard basic figure for $230 (current price point) which will randomly increase every few mos. While complex characters has no set pricing. They could get really expensive....

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

Clones $130-150, R2-D2 $150, Yoda $100, Snowtrooper $150, Tusken Raider $135. There are examples from Sideshow at all price points. Vader has an unusually large number of extras pushing it to $250. The Hoth figures both include second head sculpts. I don't believe any of the evidence over the past year indicates Sideshow will not produce more figures sub-$200 or at the $150 range. Hot Toys on the other hand no longer releases singles under $200 of any kind as far as I'm aware.

The point being SS prices are rising, they are not immune to ridiculous pricing whether a person wants to justify or not. Everyone knows HT pricing and their random increases so it shouldn't be a shock to anyone these will be priced accordingly. On occasion HT pricing comes in below / at $200, the female from GotG I believe falls around $199. Either way, collectors who want HT will pay the price those who don't will stay with SS. Pretty simple...

Maybe I'll just send a heartfelt petition out to Marmit, to get cracking on that Vader prototype they've got in stasis at the moment. :lol

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

At the end of the day they have to be priced to sell or they'll sit, while the manufacturer or distributor lose money. I don't think anything's changed with regards to pricing in the short term.

I don't think they could produce them even with Hasbro. They never has a license, they made them for Hasrbo if I remember correct. That was before Hasbro started to lease out the license.

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

Sideshow's pricing is slowly approaching Hot Toy's current pricing and Hot Toys' pricing is going...bam, zoom, to the moon!

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

Sideshow's pricing on R2D2 is far below what they could have asked.

Yeah I know, but it's nice to dream.. :lol

Now with them taking on Star Wars maybe Hot Toys can make Jar Jar Binks cool, only time will tell?

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

Are HT totally in scale with SSC? I have HT DX07 Luke, and it's probably my favorite toy. I recently got SSC Boba Fett and Snowtrooper and set them up with Luke for a jamming ESB display and they seem a bit bigger. Not that I don't realize Hamill was kinda short, but overall just seems slightly off. Wasn't sure if the hardcore scale-queens here knew more. It doesn't bug me enough, I love all of them and am keeping them and will get more from both companies, just curious.

I'll keep saying it. If HT puts out humans with the same quality as that Luke with some killer DX extras, I'm in for just about any OT.

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

Considering most figures are out of scale, any pairing or grouping is going to be hit or miss with regards to relative size (read: random crap shoot). Both Hot Toys and Sideshow regularly screw up relative scale within their own product line, let alone when compared to each other.

One of the biggest scale issues I have seen Hot Toys pull is on their man of steel. They made him way too tall!

Re: Hot Toys - STAR WARS 1/6th & 1/4th Figures from Episode I-VII + New Interviews

Just wondering thanks. Again, doesn't bug me enough for me to freak about it. They look cool either way so I don't care. Hamill's a shorty anyway. Honestly, as long as HT's humans are scale enough with each other and SSC's armored dudes are in scale enough with each other, I'm good. I read some people freaking about Vader being off, I don't care, he's tall, he's big, I'm not gonna make a thing about it. I even dig Medicom Vader, I just have him displayed elsewhere.

I really hope we get a cool Han first honestly. Who's more iconic than Luke and Vader to the Star Wars universe? Plus I dislike every 1/6 Han I've seen so far by everyone.
