"Quest For Peace?" Really?

I said I'm glad "Returns" works as an alternate final chapter to the Donner series. It's just an opinion. Otherwise the last word on the series is Quest for Peace, a pile of crap deep fried in vomit.

"Superman Returns" had a budget of $209 MILLION.

The expenses for several aborted Superman film projects were rolled into the bottom line for Superman Returns, artificially inflating the price. The true cost of making the film is rumored to be in the ~140-150m dollar range.

There were things I liked and things I didn't like about Superman Returns. I didn't think it was a pile of fail. I also understand it wasn't the hit stuff and break things movie a lot of fanbois had hoped for (nor was Superman the Movie). Singer is clearly a Donner fan. I can watch the SR and see what he was going for, and occasionally the film hits the right note.

Thats an interesting way of looking at it Kamandi. I think I agree. SR was a nice way to end the Donner Superman story.

I also agree. Not the film we were hoping for but Kamandi's take on it is a pretty good silver lining for what we got out of SR.

But now its time for something new....with no Lex Luthor.

I agree, SR worked quite well for me too...
The only things I really hated about it was Kate Bosworth, and the re-hash of the real-state thing with Luthor...
I would've loved to see a follow up to it though.

It is now spring... which means:

HT are dirty, dirty liars!!! :lol

It's all those Indy's fans fault...
:monkey3

Exactly how I feel. loved that cast except for Bosworth. Also, I HATE the real-estate hungry Lex Luthor. I don't remember that from all the comics I've read :huh I always wanted, and hopefully will see in Snyder's version, the business man Lex Luthor that practically owns Metropolis, until Superman takes his attention away. Ya know, the real reason why Lex hates superman. Everyone loves him over Lex, the whole jealousy and envy. Though I loved Spacey as Lex, I think he would've been even better if we saw him as the version of Lex I just stated

You only were cheated because you bought the DVD. The Blu for Superman the Movie is a must have.

Unless you have the awesome 14 disc Ultimate Collector's Edition. Unless they come out with it in Blu-ray, nothing beats that set. Just pop the DVD's in a blu-ray player and it up converts them to damn near Blu-ray quality

I wonder how the upcoming Anthology will compare with the 14 disc DVD set. (of course I need to keep my fingers crossed that it's sold in the US. If not, we need to invade Europe.)

I'll admit I wish they were including the Max Fliesher cartoons. I'd love to own decent transfers of those on Blu.

you mean this one!?

yes i purposely chose a GIANT @$$ Pic b/c the box art looks so awesome! :rock

If they dont do this then it will be a rip off............. thinking of this it is a rip off because why WB is releasing this box to soon?? why didn't they wait for 2012 XMAS?:dunno

If you don't take the Superman Returns movie too seriously it's not that bad. For me, I saw the original movie when I was 5 or 6 so it was magical to see superman fly off that first time. Movies 2, 3 and 4 was disappointing because they weren't the first. Think about it. Superman 2 - 3 evil kryptonians. Superman 3 - evil superman VS. Clark Kent. Superman 4 - That really should have been Bizarro. All three premises should have really worked well if only they were treated with respect instead of relying on the "superman" franchise.

With Superman Returns, we expected more because of all the technological advances in special effects. We expected more of "Super" with action and unbelievable feats. What we saw was more of "Man" with Clark returning to a more violent world, forgotten, and world going along without a superman. Honestly, I almost believed a man could cry...in this movie.

Best parts of the movie - Saving the plane, car out of control scene, rooftop scene with that gatling gun, averting disaster scenes, Lex kicking the crap out of him, sunbathing and lifting the island (because we all know Superman CAN do that)

I agree about SR, however I could not believe how bad this movie looks on Blu-ray. The image quality and color grade is just awful. It's all brown and baby blue, at times (when supes flies down the street) one of the pedestrian's head is blue! And the CGI Supes is just awful in some sequences. The plane sequence is by far the best. But I loved Routh, hard to beat in my eyes. I thought it was very moving in places (if you are a fan of the original).

You've not been on this board too long then.

:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl
I have to agree with you man

yea most ppl on here take almost everything way too seriously rather see things with an open mind, just from what I've seen.
Many OT SW fans hate the PT b/c to them its just not as good where as I'm just happy star wars was back at the box office and enjoy those movies for what they are same goes with the Clone Wars series.
I love Superman, so for me just seeing it return to the Silver screen was good enough. It wasn't what I expected but I still enjoyed it for the most part, just like most movies I see. I see the good in it like the plain seen and the awesome last seen where he lifts the entire chunk of "new krypton" into the sky as well as a few other select scenes.

Routh was excellent, Spacey was okay, but the story was garbage.

Superkid? WTF? Singer painted himself into a corner on that one, and Routh got the shaft.

I suspect Routh was cast because he bore a striking resemblance to Christopher Reeve, especially when dressed as Clark. Routh certainly played the role this way. He continued the version of the character Reeve created. I think that's the reason he gets a mixed reaction. I think he's under-appreciated. If he had done his own thing he would have also been criticized. The first actor to follow Reeve was going to be compared.

Spacey channeled quite a bit of Hackman's performance as well. I think maybe the biggest problem I had was a story problem. Luthor builds a Kryptonite island (let's get real, that was no continent). Then what? He sits on his ass. He doesn't move onto phase II of his plan, he doesn't seem to have one. He smokes a stogie as if he's waiting for the movie to end.

Superkid is one of those things that actually resonate for me like the last page of a book. The part where Superman repeats his father's words are one of the reasons I think of this movie as an ending for the CR films rather than a beginning for a Singer trilogy.

Even the last scene where Lois and Superman talk one last time is consistent with the feeling of Superman II (esp. the Donner cut). He's her friend. He can't be more.

The biggest problem with Superman Returns is it feels like Singer held back some because he expected a sequel. It doesn't feel like a self contained film. Maybe that's why I find it so easy to view it as the end of the Reeve series.
