True enough. It's something I've been ruminating on since last Spooktacular, when so much stuff seemed to be rubbished and still not sell. I figured that was SSC's and HT's wake-up call and that the runs would be radically dropped for releases this year, but that's obviously not the case.

I wonder if maybe their sales model depends on a comparatively small number of enthusiastic buyers pre-ordering early (sort of subsidizing what comes after), followed by targeted sales/rewards points incentives to clear overstock (thinking particularly of the recent sale where only some of us got 50% off coupons for selected but desirable merchandise), then allowing the last bit remaining to trickle out at retail or a bit below... I dunno, I'm at a loss to make sense of the business model, to be honest.

Thankfully, with each passing month, I'm one or two iconic figures closer to being able to bail from the hobby. Hot Toys and SSC won't have ol' Sol to kick around any more! ;)

It is in stock.

Lower the shoulders and gently keep stuffing. I did have to use a thin knife first as the upper is stuck on clamping down the chest with a strange bump.

The neck is best done last and with a piece of cardboard to keep the sides straight.
thanks for the instruction, will try one day!

I think sometimes that SSC prices the figures with coupon codes and discounts in mind. So if they would normally sell it for $200 they increase it to $220-$230 and expect it to sell at the discounted price which is in fact the original price they wanted. All sales at full price is just extra gravy.

Despite the somewhat underwhelming nature of this figure I did buy I second one on sale from a Canadian retailer on Boxing day in which I added extra battle damage to the tanker look. This way I can display both looks.

My only guess is that both HT and SSC are making money hand over fist with HT products (maybe it costs HT $20-30 per figure to be produced, and they sell them to SSC for $90-100 a piece?), to the extent that massive markdowns still yield a profit. If not, I can't make sense of it, as it doesn't seem like a very efficient strategy if the profit margins are small.

I also think some days that HT suffers from the Apple syndrome. A good quality product sold at 4-6x the actual price.

Well no regrets..is yours faults..you still to continue to buy customs dolls

custumizers are like mushrooms now..they have quit their real job to make dolls ;) ..
I have a limit range price: 250 $.. but if must be a super accessoried figure with ..

Playing with new camera, and just thought I'd share a pic of my T-800.
It's amazing the amount of detail that goes into these things that you would probably never catch with the naked eye. No wonder they cost so damned much :)

Don't blame Karamazov and custom collecting for driving up the prices of mass produced figures. If big companies actually payed attention to companies like iminime then there would be a lot more cease and desist orders than there already are.

sorry but I do not agree..
big company are seeing and testing how people can be insane to buy their favorite hero in doll version at every prices ;)
In fact hot toys used the design of kato to make the suit of the dx11 joker 2.0
and they wrote everywhere about this union.. ;)
fans were flipped out.. and the price raised a lot
(there was a lot accessories and diorama too to justify the price)
it's all about the calling and people are mad sometimes..
for this figure new, I have paid 200 shipped,..but the price was much higher..
the price of these figure will raise more and more dude, wait and see..

I think it's giving the custom guys way more credit than they're due to say that they are the basis for HT and SSC increasing prices. Even a large custom run will have 80 or so figures produced. HT's Iron Men are supposedly produced in edition sizes of 15,000+. And those customer bases are pretty dang different overall. But if that helps someone to interpret SSC and HT's behavior, then far be it for me to suggest otherwise.

Yes, Hot Toys and SSC headhunt among the great 1/6 hobbyists and small operations, but that's what any good arts-related business would do (indie filmmakers eventually become big budget filmmakers, etc.), and isn't likely to factor in pricing decisions.
