I don't know if this should scare me a bit more about the future of this line. I know a lot of retailers are sold out of this figure but the price Forbidden Planet is selling this for is shocking. It sounds like they got more stock than they can move.

Tbh the figure is boring, even though I own it. It's an old man in a robe. :dunno

CLU, Rinzler or Quorra would move many more units.

:exactly::goodpost:

Yea...I just sold this figure a couple days ago. At $104 + tax (important because some sites don't charge you tax) it's a great deal, but like Y4NK33 PL4N3T it's an old dude in some clothes. It will pale in comparison to the light cycle, but is nostalgic to those who loved the original. It's a cool figure, but with so many other great Hot Toys figures coming over the next 30 days and remaining 2011 it's hard to even justify finding $115 for this figure.

It's not to take anything from the figure, but when the chips are down, you have to pick what you want the most, and if you're pinching pennies then I'd pass. If you have cash laying around then you can't beat the price!

Just my 2 cents...

And that's exactly how I thought of it when I bought this figure. Sure there are plenty of other nice figures coming out, but ion the end, when it comes to HT, just about all their figures are nice figures. How does one choose out of so much to offer? It really just depends on the collector. I don't think it has so much to do with having or not having money when compared to a collector's individual wants.

Yea you can dumb it down (not trying to offend btw) and say "it's just an old man in a robe," but to me, he's Kevin Flynn, the Creator, the User of all Users

I honestly don't find this figure boring in the least bit

I absolutely didn't mean to offend anyone. It's a sweet figure. I also see the value in it, but I think a lot of people just see him as this boring figure, and it sells it short. I honestly think if you had the light cycle to go with it then the figure becomes cooler, but by itself on display it isn't all that tied to TRON. It needs a cooler stand or something. A light up hood. I dunno. It just needs...something more.

I totally get what you mean, because I was planning the way it was going to be displayed in my head back when I was deciding whether I should get it or not. And when I did put the order through, I went and ordered one of those light-up identity discs to use as a back-drop straight away.

Yea and I did display mine with a light disc, but it just...maybe its a space vs prioritization thing for me. It's a piece that is great slanted more towards those who grew up with the original. I wasn't even born until 2 years after the original TRON was out. So while he's the master and I enjoy the movie for being so far ahead of its time, it's not legacy to me. So I guess I need something to tie it forward to legacy more.

Grabbed him from FPNYC, for that price it was super hard to resist. I can see how he might not be the most exciting figure to some, but I enjoyed it enough that he's definitely worth it.

oh no offense taken, just as you were adding you 2cents, so was I :peace

I will agree that at one point or another, before ordering the figure and having it in hand, there was something to be desired like a light up robe or a hood, but once I actually had the figure in hand, that all changed. I love it :)

Congrats:hi5: definitely a good price there!

For me this was a must have figure because of my connection to Tron.

I saw the original film on opening weekend when I was eight years old. I was dying for an Atari 2600, which we did get by the end of that year and anything involving video games and computers seemed really exciting and exotic.

I can remember learning about Tron a couple of months before it came out when we were on a vacation and my mom's cousin had an Omni magazine with an article about it on is coffee table. I couldn't keep my eyes off the pictures. When the movie came out, I don't think my mom was in a super big hurry to take us but a friend came by and asked if my little brother and I wanted to go see it with him.

We jumped at the chance and were completely blown away. We talked about it constantly and took paper plates and drew blue rings on them and threw them at each other that summer. When I had gotten my first DVD player years later Tron was the very first DVD I bought.

But, I realize that that's not everyone's experience. Heck mentioning Omni magazine and the Atari 2600 makes me feel a bit old compared to some of you guys. I can totally understand people without feelings of nostalgia about Tron would say, the figure is an old guy in a robe. I really love the figure but I think what is frustrating about the figure is I think it would be more valuable to a lot of collectors if we know it would have others to complement him. Some figures are just fine standing there by themselves, but I think he'd pop more with a Clu, Quorra or a regular issue Sam. What I'd really love but I don't believe it would ever happen would be to display him with a 1982 version Flynn.

This figure is only $104 at Forbidden Planet NYC.

Check out the website.

Good luck!

Looks like they reversed pricing back to the $134.99. Either it was a glitch or they brought their inventory numbers back in-line with what they wanted. Well done to those who grabbed him when the price was so low!

Also, I don't know if some of you are looking for display ideas or not, but I've had great success with Cinefex issues. They have a back issue from January of this year with CLU on his light-cycle. Pretty sweet! Since it's a back issue it's $17.50, but they are like 200 pages and have TONS of pictures and interviews. Free shipping though helps. Current issues or really recent are $12.99

"Old man in robe" doll is accurate only because the sculptors didn't quite capture Kevin Flynn's true likeness from the film. It's a good sculpt when looking at Sideshow's early days but from what we expect Hot Toys to deliver, it's a bit off to be spending that much.

While that is completely true looking at the prototype pictures, it's only partially true looking at the final sculpt. It looks like Bridges for sure, but the hair sculpt is only partially right. Much better than the proto IMO.
