Re: Batman Begins: Batman/ Bruce Wayne (2011 Toy Fairs Exclusive)

Yeah imagine if they did that and the figures started to have problems like leaking abs, cracking joints, etc. That would be terrible.

I hear ya. But, I think the problems would be even worse. I'm not saying HT hasn't gone through their share of problems. But, they have a standard that makes them better, and we wouldn't be buying from them if we didn't agree. In fact, the people here salivate at most of their new releases. That could change if their production approach did.

Re: Batman Begins: Batman/ Bruce Wayne (2011 Toy Fairs Exclusive)

If Hot Toys put a factory here in the US, it would allow this market to get things faster, and costs would most likely go down as shipping and taxes wouldn't be a factor as well.

Costs would go down for us, but not them. The manufacturing plants are in China for a reason. It is nice wishful thinking on our end, but from a business standpoint it wouldn't make sense.

Re: Batman Begins: Batman/ Bruce Wayne (2011 Toy Fairs Exclusive)

Part of the fun of collecting is the thrill of the hunt, so to speak, and knowing the figures and statues you have are of some value, and will at least stay steady at value if not increase. It's also nice to know if you fall on hard times that you can sale your collection for a substantial profit.

In a sense, collecting is like a fun hobby that is also an investment. I'd hate for them to start doing several production runs on these pieces like a major company such as Hasbro.

Completely lost on today's entitlement generation.

Re: Batman Begins: Batman/ Bruce Wayne (2011 Toy Fairs Exclusive)

Honestly, I wish I could pick these up for $50, even if that meant 30,000 had to be produced for that purpose. The problem is, I don't think the cost could possibly go down all that low, no matter what the economy of scale in place. And the group of people who are gonna be willing to collect >$100 toys (which is what I figure Hot Toys are always gonna have to cost from here on out) is pretty small. Given that, the idea of having these constantly available and increasing edition sizes on demand like Hasbro or Mattel probably wouldn't work from a business point of view, at least for the majority of HT figures. HT seems to produce as many as it thinks it can sell, and then moves on, which may be a good strategy considering the cost of starting up another run with no certainty that their new run will sell out, and yes, considering that many who collect these things do value the fact that they are reasonably rare, and collect in whole or in part due to that. Same logic applies to Sideshow's behavior, though they're less inclined to give us improved updates of existing characters in existing scales (I guess there are some exceptions like the Wolverine PF and Spiderman Comiquette).

Re: Batman Begins: Batman/ Bruce Wayne (2011 Toy Fairs Exclusive)

HT would have to change their business model to get the price point way down and widely available. They surely go by what they think their market will take in terms of price and craftsmanship now, but in a mass market metric, they'd have to strictly adhere to that at a lower price point. To get Hot Toys in Walmart for instance, would require significant price and quality reductions to meet the wider market appeal. That could be extremely profitable for HT, but they wouldn't resemble the HT we know and love anymore. There's no way they could produce what they do today, in large quantities at $50 without losing quality. Production already is lengthy enough, but in hundreds of thousands production runs, they couldn't do it unless they work way in advance. Then their factory(s) is tied up. Just can't happen without adapting a more NECA-like business model.

I think you are right. And at that point, I wouldn't want HT anymore, so. . .I'll take it as it is, if you please.

Yeah, it's a lot cheaper to have kids doing it for next to nothing, and not have to give them health care or a pension. Open a factory up over here and we'll be paying $350 retail on these, easily.

We enjoy collectibles as we do for the price we do because wages and working conditions are low elsewhere in the world.

Re: Batman Begins: Batman/ Bruce Wayne (2011 Toy Fairs Exclusive)

I would've estimated it at more than $350.

Well, you can always collect the Matty stuff if you're looking for a NECA equivalent for Batman. :nana:

I read somewhere that if Apple manufactured the iPhone in the US, it would retail at $5000.00.

As far as HT's business practices go, I would still like to see them manufacture enough of these to meet demand and throw a bucket of cold water on the scalpers.

I collect that stuff too. I have Ideal and Matty pieces from the 60's that will always be more valuable to me than anything HT will ever produce.

Re: Batman Begins: Batman/ Bruce Wayne (2011 Toy Fairs Exclusive)

While they're at it, manufacture some more Blade II figures :D

If only :D

Not talking about vintage (Matty or Kenner?). :wink1:

He was looking for mass marketed $50 TDK toys. :lol
