I don't think that there's any major ruckus over Medi vs. HT, but it's only natural to compare when the exact same character is produced by two companies. Personally, I don't care who makes the better figure, I'm in pursuit of an all around great Jack Sparrow figure where I can look at it from top to bottom and be very satisfied with what I have. When I first bought the Medi, i thought it was great because the only thing to compare it to was Zizzle or however you spell. Now that HT Jack images are showing up, there are clear faults with Medi Jack where HT is showing some strength. The Medi belt being stuck at one size isn't favorable because if you don't fatten his waist enough, it won't sit properly, whereas the HT will have real belts and straps so you can futz your Jack exactly how you want him. Medi Jack is also lacking in belt accessories and even in number of belts to be Dead Man's Chest Jack, and looking at the buckle on his sword shoulder strap, it's a Curse of the Black Pearl buckle, not DMC and AWE style. All around, it's a great figure, and so is the HT, and I plan to own both, but I also feel neither by itself is a flawless figure, but I see in them the ability to merge the two to get a perfect Jack Sparrow figure, which I think will be the greatness of HT's offering, the customing that will occur is going to produce a very impressive gallery from the board members and as I love POTC and look very much forward to AWE, I'm glad to have this thread and the others that will follow, to share in POTC joy with my fellow fans.

I think it's not at all a matter of which is better as much as which you, as a customer, prefer. But then, that would be the case with all toys, wouldn't it?

I myself absolutely love the HT version. I just finished watching POTC2, and I like it WAY more than the first one, which bored me. This movie was much better and had much better acting, while the first seemed a bit dry. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a figure of Elizabeth in her lady-pirate gear from DMC to go with Jack. Though I don't know if I really care about Will, though I guess I gotta have one to go with the group, huh?

I wonder how important a character Sao Feng is gonna be. I hope he's central because I'm gonna need a really good excuse to buy his figure!
:monkey5

Well, figure status is not always relative to character importance/relevance. Overall, Boba Fett was just a small part in the Star Wars storyline, but he's very popular as collectibles so it could be too that Sao is a prominent, intricate figure, the face has so much going on to sculpt with that texture, and the outfit is highly detailed, as a figure goes, he looks like a very fun and challenging project which could mean as much to HT as the popularity of a figure. I hope for an Elizabeth so long as the sculpt is spot on Keira :)

Hey you hate lucas i hate POTC :D
(dunno man just find it real boring thats all,i liked the first one somewhat but the second one put me to sleep.I'll rent the 3rd one and see how i like that but my hopes are not high.

how do you know i hate lucas??
i have to agree with you on POTC2 - wasn't as good as the first. but as a trilogy i'm sure it'll be quite entertaining at the least.

I'm watching POTC 1 at the moment, shortly watching POTC 2, and looking at some pictures on my computer, without question, everything on Medicom's Jack Sparrow is based on The Curse of the Black Pearl - his single waist belt, the buckle and color of his sword belt, his waist belt having only his compass off it and no monkey paw or anything of that sort. I wonder why they would base the figure off the first film. My guess is they got the license for Dead Man's Chest so the box had to say that, but for some reason, they only had access to POTC 1 images when designing the figure and didn't anticipate the drastic difference from POTC1 to POTC2 for Jack's wardrobe. In the end, it would seem the best route, for a hardcore Jack fan (which I am), is to get both figures to have his POTC1 incarnation and his POTC2-3 appearance,

we already know you're anti-medicom and will do anything to make that publicly known... so what else is new?
I'm not anti-Medicom. The Rocketeer is my favorite figure, it's a masterpiece. Their Boba and Jango figures look to be even better. Their Jack however pales in comparison to the HT... in my opinion, of course.

And what would it matter if I were anti-Medicom? Do you own the company? Do you work for them? Stop taking it personally, they're just dolls.

Hmm... a thread has seemed to descend into bickering over who's better between two companies?!? How strange :lol

Anyway, in light of more recent photos I want to retract this statement:

Wow, gotta say I much prefer the Medicom here.

The Hot Toys neck joint is way more obvious (even though Medi's is a bit off) and the clothes look much lower quality.

I'm now much more impressed with HT's figure, and think that my Medi Jack will not be in the family much longer :monkey2

i watched POTC2 again yesterday. i would say POTC2 for action and POTC1 for humour. i think maybe i was expecting more humour in the second one, which is why i was a little disappointed. but as an action film, i'd forgotten how much it had - it rocked in that department.

I loved DMC, it was a hilarious, fun, exciting film. I wasn't let down in the slightest. Hell, I went back for a second and third viewing. :rock

I'm waiting on pins and needles for the third, I'm sure it will not disappoint.... hopefully.

I DID afterall say that about Spidey 3. :lol

Yes, but Spiderman's main actor is Tobey Maguire, Pirates has Johnny Depp, you can't go wrong with that, and c'mon, the revelation of walking corpse Keith Richards as Sparrow's father, you gotta love that, I have no doubt that this will be a terrific film, with the most epic of all battles in the POTC series.

Oh you can't?

Now he's done more good than bad, but few actors are flawless. Buuuuuut go on, argue how any of these were good, like I care:dance

From Hell was pretty good.

And while I still prefer the original, the new Willie Wonka was pretty fun.

I haven't seem From Hell, but Willy Wonka was enjoyable, while not as good as the original, but I wager that the main reason for WW's shortcomings were Tim Burton's vision of what Wonka ought be and all. Edward Scissor Hands and Sleepy Hollow were great films that combined Depp and Burton and both were top notch, I think Wonka was just not a film to judge them by. Most of us that are 20 or older have Gene Wilder burned in our memories as Wonka, and that version is such a classic, any remake, no matter how good it may or may not be if it were the first, is going to be compared to the original and measured, and for me, classic Wonka just set a bar so high, nothing could reach it or surpass it, it's just great and timeless.
