The Mark V has to be low powered or something, or else there wouldn't be a Mark VI.

The technology seems impossible though, even within the film's world. Did they base that armor-in-a-briefcase off of the Extremis concept? Even in Extremis, Tony had a superhuman ability to link with that armor. It couldn't snap together like a Transformer.

you are correct.

I think that briefcase armor is the mark 5, as that particular scene is when whiplash destroyed tony's race car.

so that explains why the mighty muggs of iron man 2 is named as the mark 6.

but the suitcase suit seems to magically turn into more mass than it starts as.

I think they are getting some inspirations from transformers

I caught that too, definitely Tony vs. someone in the Mark 2 suit, whether it's Rhodey or someone who broke into Tony's place and got in it, who knows.

I really liked the trailer ! The suitcase suit transformed really well imo .

Only thing is the effects don't look finished but they brobably are not.

They (as in Hasbro) are going to sell so many toys and variants. Lots and lots of active armors in this one. Even the Mark II, as villainsfan mentioned, looks to get some play in IM2.

Well I like the suitcase suit.
I can see it might work (In the realms of fantasy), and I bet that it's only for emergency situations.
Remember he made the MKI out of bomb parts, while his captors had no clue what he was doing. That was as big a stretch in my opinion.
