Rumors are the the character of Coldblood will never actually be referred to as Coldblood (which is standard from the previous villains) in the film and that he'll come off looking more like Metallo than his comic book incarnation.

Shane Black discredited the Mandarin almost right after he was announced. I guess his mind could be changed but I wouldn't count on him being anything than maybe a veiled reference given they are following a retailored Extremis storyline.

Hard to believe we're on the third IM film, and no Mandarin. I don't know if it's the racial aspect that's scaring them off or the green skin, pointy ears and magic rings. I think Avengers has more than proven you can do the more fantastical looking villains and audiences will buy it.

Agreed. This would be like being on a 3rd Batman film without ever having used his main nemesis the Joker, and having the latest film feature King Tut as the villain. Definitely a WTF.

Well, since they seem to be sticking tech vs tech, that wouldn't really leave room for Mandarin unless they made him Mandarin in name only. Probably why they chose this nobody cyborg character, hes probably going to end up retooled as some sort of nano teched armored foe.

Needless to say, I agree with Devin's take on badassdigest:

James Badge Dale, who was recently quite good in Shame and The Grey, has joined the cast of Iron Man 3. That's good news! His role, though, is a complete batch of WTF-ness that fascinates me. He's playing a guy named Eric Savin who became the cyborg character Coldblood, part of the wave of idiotic wave of guys with guns and glowing eyes that became so popular in the 90s._

He's actually a super obscure character who never quite took off. One of his appearances had him working for Roxxon Oil, which ties into my theory that Kingsley might be playing Aleksander Lukin, head of Roxxon - and a pivotal modern-era Captain America villain.

Coldblood (if he's even using that name in the movie) is likely to be the physical bad guy in Iron Man 3, the actual dude who punches Iron Man in the face while Ben Kingsley pulls the strings. The film is supposedly loosely based on Warren Ellis' Extremis story, and if that's the case Coldblood could be taking the role of "Mallen" from that story, a guy who gets injected with the Extremis nanovirus and gets superpowers. So maybe Coldblood is less straight cyborg and more nano in this case? In the comic Mallen was an anti-government extremist, while Coldblood was a soldier before going glowy-eyed after stepping on a landmine. I imagine they'll combine the origins.

Still, why even go to THAT character? I'm honestly kind of baffled by his inclusion._

Some people are saying that since Ben Kingsley's character hasn't been named that he'll be The Mandarin but then it'd go against what Shane Black has already said especially his stanch stance that it was a racist caricature.

Favreau was already looking to make it tech and didn't want to go the magical path for him originally and Black seems not want a part of it so it might be a long time waiting for those wanting to see that battle.

Black stated earlier that there wasn't going to be armor versus armor in this and that he wanted Tony to be the only one officially suited up.

Well that's just stupid. Did anyone protest "The Russian" in the Tom Jane Punisher movie? No. Black and Favreau need to grow a pair if that's their hangup with the character. I was glad that the first Iron Man had the balls to portray Middle Eastern terrorists as....oh I don't know...*bad guys.* One crazy Mandarin dude isn't a commentary on an entire nation. They can just pull a "True Lies" and have a "good" Chinese dude help him out if they're really going to be such pansies about it.

Huh? What about War Machine? Stark fighting a guy that can take punches and missles from the Iron Man suit because he has nanos in his blood? Wtf? I don't want to watch that. I want one suit beating the ____ out of another suit, flying around slamming into walls like Monger and the drones. It's Iron Man, if I want to see a guy punch another guy in the face with a fist, I'll watch Hulk or Captain America.
