More like they realized that trying to low-ball the budget would spell bad things. IM2 had a budget of 180-200mill.

I dunno. The $200mil budget is good and bad and the strings attached are unrealistic. Expecting it to be "the best Marvel movie yet" based on Avengers is kinda setting it up for failure. I can see Feige using a lower performing IM as an excuse to cut Downey's paycheck and bump him from future projects to save costs.
Yes, it could be a bad thing but I'll roll with that it's going to allow them to make this movie the best iron man film yet.
Captain America 2 better get 200 big ones for its budget as well then.
I would hope cap 2 and Thor 2 would see similar bumps.
I was thinking the same thing, although I didn't take it as far as using it against RDJ. But yeah, a higher budget is kinda a double-edged sword. You can have all the money in the world and it wouldn't mean a thing if you don't have a good story behind the movie. Likewise I would have been more intrigued to know if the movie had a lower budget because it would mean that Shane would have to come up with some pretty creative and clever ideas in order to make the movie exciting in other ways besides just seeing tons of explosions and special effects.
I'd be surprised if they get more than $150mil honestly.
I'd be surprised if they don't get at least 180 million.
