More like they realized that trying to low-ball the budget would spell bad things. IM2 had a budget of 180-200mill.

I dunno. The $200mil budget is good and bad and the strings attached are unrealistic. Expecting it to be "the best Marvel movie yet" based on Avengers is kinda setting it up for failure. I can see Feige using a lower performing IM as an excuse to cut Downey's paycheck and bump him from future projects to save costs. :(

If they're unwilling to do a proper Mandarin, just don't do him at all. What's the point if he's the Mandarin in name only?

I was thinking the same thing, although I didn't take it as far as using it against RDJ. But yeah, a higher budget is kinda a double-edged sword. You can have all the money in the world and it wouldn't mean a thing if you don't have a good story behind the movie. Likewise I would have been more intrigued to know if the movie had a lower budget because it would mean that Shane would have to come up with some pretty creative and clever ideas in order to make the movie exciting in other ways besides just seeing tons of explosions and special effects.

Yes, it could be a bad thing but I'll roll with that it's going to allow them to make this movie the best iron man film yet.

Thor 2 could definitely use a bump. The non-Asgard locations in that flick were underwhelming to say the least. I kept expecting one of those worms from Tremors to pop up.

I think they already mentioned that Thor 2 will focus on Asgard and more of the nine realms. I hope it gets a budget bump as well to support those locations and visuals.

I agree with this, the first movie doesn't have a whole lot of action in it, the story and characters make it work so well.

With the announcement of another villain, I'm starting to wonder if this movie won't be a combination of Extremis and Armor Wars. Which means a lot of these villains wouldn't have a ton of screen time.

It could work very well.
