Possibly, since they are going for Iron Patriot, it's possible they are using comic inspired stuff by this point. Hopefully if they are bothering with Extremis we get one of these transformations even just once:

Reminds me of Somewhere In Time's Eddie. :lol

I think there's a bridge that exists between my suspension of disbelief on one end and me rolling my eyes on the other. Extremis sits on the former, Bleeding Edge morphing on the latter.

I'm okay with a thin second skin (a sheath) coming out of little diodes on Tony's body, but the secretion of liquid metal that congeals into armor? That's still a ways away for me in terms of believability (even taking into consideration the larger world that contains the cinematic Avengers).

I'll be honest, I've never liked the Bleeding Edge armor concept, or the arc it was introduced in.

It's NOT Iron Patriot

With Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3 now filming, fans have begun to piece together what’s happening via set photos, rumors and more. The biggest revelation thus far came two weeks ago when set photos confirmed a brand new suit of armor that looks like character named the Iron Patriot. Initial reports were that the suit would be manned by James Badge Dale‘s character, a villain in the movie. Those reports now appear to be false.

Latino Review once again has the scoop and a new, more logical, interpretation of the photos. We’ll reveal their spoilerish findings after the jump.

Latino Review says that, while the red white and blue suit seen in the below photos might be referred to as “the Iron Patriot,” it’s not the Iron Patriot as known in the comics.

Here is the rest in SPOILERISH MODE:

In fact, it’s actually Don Cheadle‘s War Machine, in a new, upgraded, patriotic armor.

We’re getting this from someone on set who says what we’re all calling “Iron Patriot” is Don Cheadle’s new armor. For purposes of clarity, I’ll still be calling it War Machine, even if the movie decides to call him “Iron Patriot”

The US Government has had their hands on this Stark suit for awhile, and apparently they’ve decided to make it more patriotic (especially with the nano-technology stuff I hear is going down in China these days, it’s important for America to look good, not like ‘Iron Man 2′s’ bulky grey War Machine).

That’s why the set photo of “Iron Patriot” has the War Machine gun on his back, because it’s NOT Iron Patriot, it’s NOT James Badge Dale, it’s NOT Coldblood-7.

According to their report, War Machine is assigned to protect the Vice President in the film.

Again, until we hear a 100% official confirmation from Marvel from any of this, be wary that anything is possible. But considering War Machine’s role in the film had largely been a mystery, this makes more sense than Iron Patriot/War Machine being another villain when there’s already Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley.

Are you disappointed by this turn of events? Does it make more sense?

:slap:slap:slap

At least we'll always have the first IRON MAN film.

I'm curious as to this being war machine but in the end I expect this movie to kick ass.

IM3 Armor design possible revealed via licensing show banner?
.

Unconfirmed whether it's official, and of course from Cap in Avengers we know the look can be changed/tweaked over the course of production...

You spoiler tagged the exact same pic thats shown several times in thsi thread already? :dunno

If this turns out to be real, the thing I'd be most intrigued by is the mix of gold and red in the armor. It's something I know they seem to think a lot about when designing the armors. I think one of the things I like about the MKIII is the mix of gold and red. Armors like the Mark III seemed to have too much red for my liking. This one seems to go a bit far with the gold. But I'm willing to give it a chance. It'll really depend on what the rest of the armor looks like.

My question is this? Does Whedon have any sort of creative rights now over the other movies? IE, can he dictate the direction of Avengers 2 to the extent of limiting/influencing what is allowed in the individual movies at this point? Basically whoever controls the Avengers seems to have the hand that rocks the cradle at this point. And is this suit just a stepping stone to whatever happens with Iron man in Avengers 2?

I would doubt it. I'm sure Marvel has the basic stories outlined for the all the upcoming movies right up to Avengers 3.

:lecture:lecture:lecture :exactly:

Though I'm sure given Joss is tasked to write/direct Avengers 2 he does have a bit of input and Marvel will want to build up to it as much as they did the first film.

Oh for sure he will given room to bring his input to the writing and story. I just hope they can recreate the magic of IM1 with this one. Is it likely to be RDJs las outing in a single movie or will we see IM4 before Avengers 2 or 3?

It is an interesting question. Favreau seems to have had a little bit of hand in things here or there since Iron Man as it was the most successful movie before Avengers. But overall it seems like a collaborative effort. If anything, it seems Kevin Feige and the studio have a strong hand in some of the overall plan, though they seem to rely on specific creatives to really fill out the vision of it.

Just reading this months Empire and Feige confirmed this was the last movie of RDJ contract but he expects him to be in future outings. Was there rumours that Feige would be happy to see RDJ gone?

Who's playing the Mandarin? Don't say Ben Kingsley, please...

Hasn't he played this role enough times already!? They need someone new to go to. Who's the new 'great old actor that brings gravitas to the screen at a studio rate'?

Already IM3 is drawing from Prince of Persia and Thunderbirds.... :slap
