Best Marvel Film Yet, Coming From A Dc Fan. Only Other Movie On Top Of This Is Batman Begins.. I Loved This Movie!! Yes I Will Be Buying A Hot Toys Iron Man!

I always liked the character of Iron Man and Tony Stark, but was never a die hard fan. This movie is probably my favorite super-hero movie to date, I enjoyed it so much more than I expected to. The after credits scene made it that much better! It was a packed theatre and over half the audience (that stuck around), started going completely nuts!

"Iron Man blasted off in theaters on Friday and hauled in an estimated $33M from an ultrawide 4,105 North American theaters to officially kick off the summer blockbuster season with a bang. Add in brisk ticket sales for early shows on Thursday night starting at 8PM and the total reached $38.5M at close of business on Friday night. Robert Downey Jr. headlines the cast playing the metal man with Jon Favreau directing. Reviews were the best for any wide release this year.

The remarkable tally stands as the second biggest opening day in box office history for a non-sequel trailing only the $39.4M of fellow Marvel Comics super hero Spider-Man from this very same weekend in 2002. Tony Stark and pals edged out Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which launched in November 2001 with $32.3M on its opening Friday. That figure however, would amount to roughly $40M at today's ticket prices. Still, Iron Man could not be in better company given that the character is not as universally known as Spider-Man, Batman, or Superman. Audience feedback has been very positive too as the Paramount release has earned a solid A- average from over 3,000 users of Yahoo Movies.

Iron Man was also in the same vicinity as X2: X-Men United which bowed this weekend in 2003 with a $31.2M Friday representing 37% of its eventual $85.6M weekend debut. Those figures at 2008 prices would translate to approximately $37M and $100M, respectively. The X-Men sequel and Iron Man both benefited from a bulit-in audience of comic fans, strong reviews, and the free and clear marketplace that the first weekend of May provides. However, X2 as a sequel had more upfront demand.

Should Iron Man follow a similar path, it could soar to $85-90M over the Friday-to-Sunday period and raise its cume to $90-95M when adding in Thursday grosses."

With the focus on Iron Man in the comic books (where within the past 2-3 years he has become perhaps the BIGGEST "public" superhero in the Marvel universe) and this movie... Iron Man is reaching a popularity he hasn't seen before.

I've never cared much for Iron Man either. But he has certainly captured my attention ever since "Avengers Disassembled", New Avengers, and more recently..Civil War and his induction as the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Great, great film; just enough humor, depth and action for an enjoyable hero film -- among the very best Marvel films.

Did you guys know that Robert Downey Jr. was going to be in the Hulk movies reprising his role as Tony Stark? I wonder if Samuel Jackson will be in there after the credits too.

RDJ's scene is an after the credits thing too

SHH!: Can you see yourself doing an "Avengers" film somewhere down the road?
Downey: Maybe.

SHH!: If Jon directs?
Downey: Yeah, but I didn't know that things would end up here. I don't have this massive career overview. I'm not like, "Well in addition to this trilogy, I can see how we can cross-pollinate with another thing."

SHH!: Can you talk about your cameo in "The Incredible Hulk"?
Downey: Yeah, I'm so ^^^^^king pissed off. I went and did a scene for two hours, which they're going to run during the end credits in "Hulk" and everyone's like, "So, you're role in 'Hulk'…" I did it as a favor to these guys at Marvel. They're really cool but I have to talk about it every ^^^^^king day, but they're smart because they get that you're saying "Hulk" when we're talking about "Iron Man." They know what they're doing.

I hope he s wearing the the Hulkbuster armour.I can barely comprehend how cool that would be.

Don't get your hopes up. It sounds like a civilian cameo and anyway the Hulkbuster would be kind of unrealistic since he is just getting his Mk III armor under control. The main villain in The Hulk is Abomination I wouldn't expect to see any Iron Man/Hulk slug fests too.

Just came back from the movie. Loved it. Best Marvel movie to date, IMO. Robert Downey Jr. surprised me with his performance. Pulled off Stark beautifully and the chemistry between he and Paltrow was perfect. Good reaction from the crowd with the scene after the credits.

I think I read/heard... SPOILER alert

Tony meets with General Ross to discuss a possible mutual problem.

But I don't know how accurate that is.
