Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

I am so pumped to see this movie. I am looking forward to this more than any movie in a while. It makes me sad though because my dad always MADE me go to Star Trek movies with him since Search for Spock. I know he would love to see this. :monkey2 I will go and watch it for us both. :rock

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

If this movie kicks @$$ like I hope it will, I'd like to see a trilogy of features with the new cast.

Unless they did a TV series with a different take on Star Trek, I'd rather they didn't do one.

I know Voyager gets poopied on as a series, but I loved the 25th (27th?) century ship that patrolled the time stream. I wouldn't mind a series set in that milieu. (I could be misremembering - but I know I thought the future Federation was pretty cool.)

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

Well...Abrams has a tall order convincing the old guard (like myself) that his "reimagining" is a good thing. The new trailer looks slick, but we've all seen good trailers for bad movies before....

The only one in the cast that is intriguing me is Karl Urban as McCoy...in what little I've seen, he's pretty good...I'm interested in seeing where he takes that part. Sy-Spock is almost too obvious for me and I DO NOT like that guy playing Kirk...but following Shatner is a tall order for anyone to tackle to say the least....and that girl playing Uhura makes me wonder, were the prodicers thinking... "What? Beyonce's not available? Get us a lookalike, stat!" Kinda boring...

I think the only obvious mis-step to me I've seen so far is having Nimoy involved...it smacks of stunt-casting. Since Abrams is going to such great lengths to start fresh with this, I say go all the way and avoid the old crew altogether...

We'll see how it plays out in a few months here...

I never poopied on Voyager. I liked Voyager. :D

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

i highly recommend going to your local comic store and getting the first two issues of Star Trek Countdown - #3 out tomorrow....

It is the official prequel to the movie and is a good reason....

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

What most people are missing is that this ISN'T a straight up reboot of Trek. It's a Romulan f'ing with the timeline. Thus Nemoy is involved. Also, Dave, I loooved Voyager and the lack of product and respect for the show really sucks. I'd give good money to have the entire Voyager crew in action figure form. DST currently has "no plans".

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

Am I also the only one that thinks the soundtrack almost sounds similar to Zimmers Batman soundtrack?

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

I actually own all seasons of all five Trek shows on DVD, and Voyager was one that my wife and I both enjoyed a lot.

Sounds like the new film is both a sequel and a prequel and it could be really interesting...

Nope. venakin skywalker pointed this out on post #428. UTtoyfan did some digging and found that the music being used for the trailer is not the movie soundtrack, but generic "trailer music" done by these guys: https://www.twostepsfromhell.com/index-home.php

I always used to go see the Trek films with my dad too ( 1-6 ). He never liked TNG or anything besides the OS crew so he's not interested in seeing this either. He got me hooked on Trek as a kid ( OS ).

Don't know how big a hurry you are in to see it, but since you'll be down here about 3 weeks after it opens we could go see it.

We can do that. I am sure I won't mind going to see it again. My dad loved anything Star Trek. He watched them all. When he passed I made sure I found a station that had it on so he could maybe at least hear it. :monkey2

Wow dude. That makes me almost tear up. My dad LOVES OS Trek as well and it's a real bond for us. I bought him a cast signed Star Trek II mini movie poster ( legit ) for Christmas a few years back and he couldn't believe it.

I have the QVC plaque signed by the original cast as well.
