Ok guys, progress update with the backdrop.

After noticing some details in a picture reposted earlier, I realized that from the floor to level with Jabba's throne slab are 4 steps, then 2 more to the back, so I've adjusted my image to match that, as well as more accurrately elevating the slab above the floor. After that, I used my throne images to begin painting texture for the archway wall and the wall in the background, next step will be texturing the remaining colored elements, then work on the art trim on the arch, followed by shadowing of the areas based on the lighting of the film, then after that, add the fire pit and some background activity inside the archway that can be removed upon request by fellowe members, and she should be good to go. Here's an in progress image.

Well, I can't think of a better way to celebrate my 1,000th post than with a picture of my Jabba setup. Its a bit of a "work in progress" with all the stand-ins but I like it. And a special thanks to Eric Cartman for volunteering to fill in for Bubo.

Thanks GB!! Glad you enjoyed the shots. I wanted to make sure these pics came out as good as anything I've taken since I got the new camera.

Well Friday came and went and no Jabba or Throne today. Did anyone else on the East coast that was expecting him today get theirs? I keep remembering that video that Batty posted with the Fed-Ex trailer jackknifing.:monkey2
Mine was supposed to arrive yesterday and it still hasn't shown up!

Great pics, guys!

I am trying to figure out what type of material to use for the back drop. Any suggestions?

If you're looking to make it like Jabba's palace, I forget if there's a specific name for it, but I used some stiff foam once in my sculpture class and if you took a file to it, it had a grainy texture like the throne slab has, you could try getting some of that, then if you paint it, that should keep the filed particles from falling off.

I was thinking of like a foam type material. Then heating up a paper clip or something metal and small to create the bricks. Then spray painting it. Not sure of the rest though. I thought I bought a big enough table but I was wrong. Not for the whole scene at least anyways. I would like a nice backdrop though. Thanks Maul! I can still see are minds are on the same path with this one.

:rotfl SO do I!! Does that make us evil? :devil

:D

for the expensive stuff i've been known to tell her i "won" it from SS.....nope, don't feel bad in the least.

i arrived home from being out of town and the fed-ex guy(God bless him) delivered jabba and his throne(i signed the slip he left and he accepted that even though it's a "direct signature" delivery). like the hulk pf, even though i've seen pics i was not prepared for how big the throne was..or jabba. freakin' awesome, now i can open bib and salacious! he's on top of my entertainment center in "my" room which holds a 27" t.v. with 2 inches of space on each side and it takes up the entire space. don't know where i'm going to put him so i can put luke in front or anyone else that doesn't fit on the throne for that matter. i guess it's time to barter with the little lady for a different room. i mean why do my guests have to sleep on a bed..are they too good for the couch or floor...i think not.

Wow...I get home from work and more cool pictures! From the infamous doily to some cool angles of him from metaphorge (great mood lighting BTW & I love the shot of the lil' slug stealin' the dregs of that ****tail!)...just keep the great pics coming! And thanks everybody for the compliments on my shots...half the fun of these figures is snappin' shots & showin' other freaks what fun the figure is....

Badmoon....wow, sir...what a collection! Looks like a museum there...as a certain dark lord would say..."Impressive....most impressive...."

madden821....your set-up reminds me of how much fun it was to set up all those old Hasbro toys....it really looks like a playroom there :D ...very cool!

Maulfan..... I believe the classic Ralph McQuarrie concept painting of Jabba's throne room may have examples of those gliph-art characters on the archways and walls you're looking for....here's a link to his site containing that painting and more...

https://www.ralphmcquarrie.com/galleries/jedi/jedi.html

and here's the painting itself...

Looking forward to your review, Josh1.

I wonder if Mr. Crawford picked this up and will be reviewing.

I just thought of something....am I the only one of the "Freak Painters" that is getting Jabba?

Okay....been playin' with light & angles....
....man, this is fun!

...and this one makes him look dark n' slimy n' evil....a real gangsta hutt...

392717269_fb7dda87dc_o.jpg

As Wor-Gar and others have demonstrated earlier in the thread...the sculpt & detail on this piece is just fantastic...different lighting can just change the expressive features so much...from jovial to evil with just a play on light.

And the eyes....very nicely done. They really help the figure come alive in a way photos just can't capture...the bar is once again raised like Jabba's toasting glass as the artists at Sideshow did with Maul...any higher folks and you're gonna need those infamous "monkey arms" to reach it :monkey5 ...

Enjoy folks....I sure am!
