You see! I don't know the full list but one could come to the conclusion if you wanted to "stretch" this issue that a lot of African American movies have one word titles. LOL! Does that make sense? No more than your argument that this movie is racist. LOL! Get over it sir or madam. :lol:peace
i get the feeling you're trying to be clever or cool or something, but i just dont see it, sorry. dont stop trying though. keep inhaling that plastic toy smell. would help, no doubt.

Perhaps any resident Hindus can tell us if the title is offensive? :monkey4
some hindus did take offense. there was an article about it. somewhere.

now don't take this the wrong way, but it's fascinating to see how many americans have jumped all over the so-called racist elements in avatar.

over here in southeast asia, no one has read into the film that way. to us, it's just a film.

make of that what u will.

and how would the blacks feel in the na'vi were not blue but instead played by blacks? hmm? i'll bet my dvd collections there'd be an uproar from the black communities.

Let's play that game the other way then. How would blacks feel if ALL the ex-marines and Colonel Quaritch were black instead of white? Actually not all of them, let's say they were all minorities except for one lone white chopper pilot who saw the evil that was being committed and didn't go along with it. I'm sure that would have gone over extremely well.

James Cameron is white. I think he's allowed to make a movie with a white good guy and a white bad guy. If you want to make the movie about race (instead of the technologically advanced culture oppressing the less technological culture parable it really is) you can actually make the argument that Jake was no benefit to anyone until he forsook his "whiteness" and became the race of the oppressed. Last I checked the Na'vi weren't being led by a white man on a red and yellow dragon, he was blue.

Don't forget that it was also supposed to feature two and a half hours of incoherent images and sounds that no one has ever seen or heard before. An orgy of originality, if you will.

Kind of like 2001: A Space Odessey?

...save the entire white race singlehandedly... i dont know. but i do know that is a step forward. and i'm absolutely positively sure all colors will get their chance to shine in the movies. it's just a matter of time. but for now, avatar is not furthering any cause but the white's.

The purpose of film is to give 'races' their time to 'shine in the movies?

okay, so anytime anyone points out a concern about race in films, that guy is deserved to be labeled a racist.

Only when it's in the subtext, where only racists can see it.

Apparently southeast Asia has not been infected with the proliferation of racism that Americans are subject to on a regular basis by those who imagine themselves the saviors of the non-white peoples of the Screen Actors Guild.

it doesnt matter who play the marines and all the rest. the savior was a white guy and the followers were non whites. you switch that around, the non whites are bound to be upset. no one raised a ruckus yet because blue is a non existent race.

that's a good point. and i did think about that. the fact that the white guy has to shed his own skin and literally become that of another race to be able to lead them, that makes the pill a bit easier to swallow for me. that doesnt change the fact the white guy was white before he turned blue though.

i dont think cameron is a racist. like you said, james cameron is a white guy, and movie like this is catered mostly to white males demographic. you sell a white male's fantasy you make more money. it's just simple economic. but dont think the subtext isnt there. i have no problem with film's tree hugging message btw, simplistic as it is.

did i say that? or you're just being an idiot, yet again?
Only when it's in the subtext, where only racists can see it.
the shoes thing didnt work out, eh?

i'm in south easy asia, believe it or not.

So its white males outside of the United States that can be attributed to its 910 million dollar (67% of its total earnings) foreign gross?
and i'm part of that outside the US audience. we accept white guys as heroes in movies because we are so used to it by now. if you've been creating black heroes for just as long in movies, we'd all be so used to it as well by now, and avatar starring a black dude would just gross the same amount, in the Us and the world.

but it's ok. one baby step at a time.

Dude lashing out endlessly at this in here is pointless. I can see that you feel strongly about racism likely being racially discriminated against in real life, so go fight the good fight out there cause here you are really not achieving anything but feeding your hunger for approval which is not real. Go out there and mentor real people and spread the good words and not this movie garbage nonesense which again is not real. I can't even believe the Vatican felt the need to comment cause most of the time when you say too much no matter how smart you Think you sound you will end up looking like the idiot

dude, it's just a movie. and we're just discussing here. :lol

we can be passionate talking about things we love, cant we? cant be worse than talking endlessly about poa on a toy, can it?

i got a question why do people wanna go to pandora, didnt the guy say everything that wallows in the mud wants kill them? I mean as soon as they set foot thier they will get eaten by that big thanator thing. Yea i dont know.

I really wish you feel that way cause it certainly doesn't read like that too me. For a passionate talk about what we love this would not read like that. Cause I don't see your love being racsim. Just like ppl would passionately talk about how they love this movie but nobody passionately talks about how they hate this movie. There are ppl disliking this movie but they say wats on their mind and let go. You are biting onto this so hard that I am worried you are not addressing your passion for racsim possible in the real world. Cause in the end if you really have issues then as of right now the way you are going about it here ain't gonna do much for whether you win or loose this endless argument cause it's what's outside in the real world is what's bothering you. So good luck out there

Considering the casting and the some of the professional criticism of the film, I think race is a legitimate topic of discussion for the film. However there is no need for anyone to let it get personal. Hopefully we could have a mature discussion without resorting to name calling.

@Geil;2238023:
i meant love of films, in general. i dont hate avatar, i actually quite like it, i just dont think it's beyond criticism. i dont fall madly in love with it like some here do. i wish i could, but i have issues with it.

sure there are issues in real world, but we dont frequent this kind of forums to talk about those stuffs, do we? :)

I was just worried about you cause the way you grabbed onto this racial topic seemed really strong. Like I said passion for what you love is great but usually strong views on the negative tends to originate from deeper scars within and I just wanted to make sure you are seeing it.
Yes Lord Dave I will of cause not deny anyone the freedom of discussion. I was merely concerned for our youngling being consumed by emotions
yes Lord Dave I will go back to my bunker

that's cool. but you removed the quote of the esteemed devilof76 in my post, but leave his racist accusation directed at me. that's just not good babysitting imo.

but point taken. i wont be playful when no one is acting like a child. :)
