Honestly I do think the "Cameron ripped _____ off" is getting a bit silly. I could buy into a few of them, and clearly see inspiration; but this one seems like more of a stretch. It even sort of illustrates how if you look hard enough you can find something (no matter how obscure) that is similar.

Maybe he did rip all of this off, but its also likely that there is no connection and the ideas both occurred on their own.

:lecture coincidences exist, especially when you're looking for them.

But we all know it is a cliche, we all know it is a rip off of something else. Not sure why it needs to be said over and over again.

So, you're saying that the acknowledgement that Avatar is a cliche, is, in and of itself, a cliche? That his observation that it was a ripoff is a ripoff of previous critiques? Do you find such cliches boring and tedious, as such cliche peddlers found Avatar?

Its a cliche paradox.

Seems that people like to claim they did it first when something gets successful. See Star Wars, Avatar, even LOTR. Jealousy maybe?

I agree the possibility is there that they did occur on there own. Every movie, every writer, every director gets influences from something but there are also times when things can be independently developed and you don't know until some ******* comes around and wants credit because he claims he was ripped off.

Bwhaha, it is now a cliche to say that Avatar is a cliche? If so, I will stop if everyone else stops. :D

Also enough with avatar being the worst fans just becuase they dress as a navi we got people who dress as predators, superman and men who dress as anime girl characters, we also have people who talk in kligon and what not, so i dont get all the criticism with avatar fans just becuase they paint themselves blue, thiers worse things.

It's not like Lucas hides it. He has an interview on the Hidden Fortress dvd. Also, I don't really think Cameron ripped off anybody.

I'm sure he didn't. He wouldn't need to because the storyline is a tried and true one.

btw.....just because I talk about Avatar like I do doesn't mean I don't like it. Like I said before, I do, I just can't understand why so many think this is the best picture ever. I just don't see why. And I'm not just talking on this board, but other places as well. Die hard Terminator and Aliens fans are saying it's better.

Was there something subliminal in it that my brain just didn't pick up on?

Ween, i'm totally with you. I love the movie and all...but it's nothing new. The effects, and way it looked was new, and awesome...but take away the pretty effects, the look, everything...the film would be pretty boring.

You sound like that little blond kid in Kindergarten Cop telling Arnold all the grownups he knows are better teachers than him.

"And my Dad, he's better than Avatar."

"And Mrs. Hutchinson, she's more original than Avatar too."

Yep. I'm trying to start an agrument here. I love to agrue. So lets go RIGHT HERE! C'MON!
